Conner looked back up with eyes wide, drinking in the fair and seemingly confused female. "Oh, no. My eyes are fine. The vet said I was in fine health the last time I saw him." (and there's his taking everything literally side XD) He padded a little closer to Yuurei. "But even if my eyes really were bad, I'd still be able to see your loveliness. You shine like a gem. A pearl." His face warmed again. "I apologize. I'm being terribly forward for having just met you."

She blinked at his first comment and fought back the urge to laugh once more and closed her eyes to try and keep her laughter under control so as not to offend him. When she opened her eyes however, she realized how closer he was to her and she couldn't help but gasp however she didn't move. A pearl? A gem? Yuurei felt strangely at those words. They made her feel... cherished almost even though she certainly wasn't one who desired such feelings. "No, you're not forward at all. I... your words; I'm not used to hearing them from anyone and so, it really is nice to hear." She finally smiled warmly at him. "They are the words you would say to, well, family or loved ones and that is what I like hearing it. Even if we have just met, it makes me feel as if... you care."

Conner tilted his head. Not used to hearing that? He could hardly believe this lady wasn't used to compliments. He smiled softly, a small and warm chuckle rumbling his throat. "Yuurei. Don't ask me to explain, because I can't. But, I do feel as if- as if I care about you. I was drawn the moment I saw you, and I mean every word I've said. You're positively enchanting." He blushed and bit his lip. He was normally calm around others, but Yuurei had cast some spell on him. The words just slipped out before he could think about them.

Yuurei could only bring herself to stare at him and she wanted nothing more than to run away; to leave this all behind but she couldn't move her paws. Stop running away from everything! The puppy from earlier snapped at her in her thoughts and she nodded her head. Yes, she had to stop running away. "Conner," She whispered and wanted to say more but could not force the words out. Instead, she took a few shy steps towards him and brushed her paw against his as she had done earlier and whispered his name again. "Oh Conner... you have captured my attentions since we have met and I long, so very much, to care for you but I'm afraid I do not know how... though I wish to try." She looked up at him shyly and flattened her ears against her head.

Conner blinked. Not knowing how to care... He mentally shook his head. That didn't matter. She was something special, and he couldn't afford to let her go for any reason. His breath had been caught in his throat and he needed to take a large gulp to speak. "Oh my dear, don't be afraid." He smiled and raised a paw to touch her cheek encouragingly. "I'll do whatever it takes to help you learn. It's somewhere inside you. Just saying that you want to try shows that your ability to care is there."

Yuurei closed her eyes when she felt his paw touch her cheek and thought over his words carefully and she felt so many different things all at once that were completely foreign to her. When she opened her eyes again and stared at him, she nodded her head. "If you will help me, then I will most certainly try and if I succeed. I will care for you unconditionally." She smiled and looked off into the forest, shaking her head and laughed softly to herself. "The funny thing about all of this is that I feel... as if I was meant to find and meet you in these woods."

Conner's tail swayed contently behind him, his ribbons waving gently in the breeze as if they too wanted to reach out to Yuurei. "Who can really say. Perhaps it was destiny. Placing my meeting of you in the arms of simple luck would be an insult. I feel lucky, but there is more behind this. In all these wide deep woods, I meet you here. Indeed, there is more at work than luck."

She sat down and wrapped her tail around her paws and laid her ears against her head as she began to mull over his words. "You are right then again, I've never believed in luck or coincidences. I think there is a reason for everything; sort of like what you said. Perhaps it is destined. Oh wouldn't that be nice; to meet your destined other." Yuurei lifted her gaze up towards the wintry sky and gave a contented sigh towards the clouds before returning her intrigued gaze to Conner and laughing shyly and shook her head at how nice that sounded. To meet your destined someone.... to be loved; finally. "There are so many other paths that lead to the house but I chose this one and it led to you and I thank the stars that it did." His ribbons waving in the breeze caught her gaze and she reached out her paw cautiously and swatted at them almost playfully and it wasn't everyday she reverted back to her childish nature.

His chest puffing slightly with happiness, Conner closed his eyes as he listened to Yuurei. He suddenly thought of a scene from a movie he had seen long ago. "You are my destiny." He whispered, letting the sound float in the air. He reopened his eyes as he felt his ribbons pawed at and chuckled softly. Beautiful, interesting, unique and adorable! Destiny was an odd thing. He focused on his ribbons and had them flutter a little more for her.
Yes... destiny was an odd thing... A pair of dark eyes shone in the darkness, watching the two starry-eyed lovers. Who were they to be so happy?! He bared his teeth silently, his bad mood getting worse by the moment.

(dun dun duuuunnn!)
Still playing and quite content with the waving ribbons, she barely heard his whispered words on the air and she paused, looking up at him and searching for the truth in his words and she of course found it. She moved from where she was sitting and brushed her nose against his and whispered, "My destined someone." under her breath as she did so before sitting back and staring longingly t him. ...Yuurei... It was an older voice now ringing in her thoughts. The voice of the only spirit that had never shown itself to her but had always protected her. When that voice sounded in her thoughts, she knew something was not right at all but what did that spirit know? She was safe here with Conner. She smiled lovingly at him and continued playing.

A warm shiver crept up Conner's spine at her touch, and her reached to lightly nuzzle her back. The light breeze of the air suddenly brought with it a new scent. Conner's eyes widened and he searched the trees. He knew that scent... normally not a problem, but there was a tang in this. Maverick was having a rough day, wasn't he. "Yuurei, stay close." He said softly, standing up protectivly over her. Would Maverick really bother them? Tonight of all nights!
The dark eyes didn't blink as they watched Conner stand. Damn. He had been hoping to suprise them. Disgusting shmoozers. But the lady wouldn't know him. He growled deep in his throat through his teeth and menacing grin, eyes focused like daggers on the female.

One moment she was playing and enjoying herself and the next, Conner was standing there protectively and looking at the trees. She tensed and looked around slowly and tried to pinpoint where the threat was coming from and trying to remain calm. It was probably nothing... just the wind... nothing but the wind and that was all but when she heard a growl, she whipped her head in the direction it was coming from and felt an icy fear grip a hold of her. Her eyes wide, she took a step back. "M-m-mother?" She whined, laying her ears against her head and shaking her head in disbelief. "She's come back to finally finish it... oh no, please no..." She whimpered and shook her head.

Conner flipped his ears back. "Yuurei, stay calm. I can assure you this is not your mother." He took another step to keep himself between Yuurei and the male in the shadows. "We want no trouble here Maverick! You go on back to the house and leave us be."
Maverick's anger fed on the white female's obvious fear. "Where's the fun in that?" He growled out, stepping a little from the bushes, teeth shining in the moonlight.

Dark fur and teeth promising piercing pain; so familiar and yet, this male was different but not by much. He was angry but why?! She had done nothing and Conner certainly hadn't done anything.... so what was this all about? She wanted to be angry but not knowing why he was mad only made her more terrified. She closed her eyes, fighting against the tears threatening to escape and shook her head. "Go away... go away..." She continued this mantra under breath and tried to block out the sight of the wolf's teeth in the moonlight.

Conner flashed a glance down at Yuurei who was muttering something. He turned back to Maverick with anger in his eyes. "You get out of here before I remove you myself! You need to calm down and get your head back straight!"
"Better open your eyes little miss, cause I'm still here." He chuckled. "Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I'm not here. That's a poor defense if I've ever seen one." He looked at Conner and growled. "You think you can take me pup? I have no interest in you, little Connie. It's the pretty lady I'd like to see." Maybe he could rankle Conner enough into a fight? That would be fun.
