He blinked in a startled manner as if she'd struck him rather than spoken to him. "Am I...?" he said, giving a nervous chuckle that tried to hide his surprise and failed miserably at it. "....maybe it IS magic, then." It was a bad joke, and he knew it...

Nice one, idiot... his mind groaned at him. One good thing to be said for the shadows was they did wonders to hide reddened cheeks. "It...uhm...." he went on, trying desperately to salvage the situation. "....the light does a lot more for you, though." he told her, watching the moon and the shimmers play off of the gold mane of her hair and through her wings.

Zhane let Seiji crawl out of his lap, glancing at him to make sure he wasn't taking off for anywhere he might get into trouble, before looking back to Nani. Taking a moment to really look at her instead of the sheepish glances he'd been taking, he quietly disagrees with her statement. The light didn't make her look paled out at all.

"Well, if it means anything," he began, scooting a bit closer. "I think you look--" he was interrupted as the small alcove began to dim as the moon finished its course over the opening of the tree. The flowers, just as quickly as they'd bloomed, one by one, folded their petals shut once again, and the glowworms, left in the dark, ceased their twinkling.

....all of them, that is, except Seiji's newfound friend who, for some reason, perhaps having a conversation with the young boy in its own way, remained alight.

".....damn." Zhane sighed, looking back up at the dark blue canvas of the sky, dotted with silver pinpricks. "Guess its over for the night."

He was disappointed it hadn't lasted longer, but at least he'd warned her going in that it was only a fleeting thing. It seemed all things that were beautiful were....at least this one came back nightly if they ever wanted to see it again.

As the toddler pawed at his leg, he collected Seiji back into his lap and thought over her request a moment. "Sure." he said. "Long as we keep it down...mom and dad are probably in bed by now." Adjusting the dragon child against his shoulder once more, he slowly stood, and ducked back out of the hollow to the outside.

"What kind of movies do you guys like?"

He decided not to question what memories those might be, not thinking it was his place. "We can find something." he assured her. "We've got DvDs and tapes from back when I was little, maybe Seiji has the same taste three-year-old me had."

Zhane looked down at Seiji then, and his new friend and chuckled. "He must be something special. I've never seen one glow after the moon's gone." Cocking his head a bit to meet Seiji's eyes he spoke "Is that one going home with you?" he asked the boy.

Zhane couldn't help but grin back at Seiji as he watched him with the little glow worm. He wondered if Seiji was what he must've been like at that age, when everything was still new and he didn't know any better. In many ways, it could be argued, he was STILL that way.

"I'll try and pick something good, then." he assured Nani, looking back to her as they began back in the direction they'd come. "Did you guys eat already?" he asked, swerving to avoid a fallen log. He supposed the answer was obvious, given how late it was and Seiji's lack of hungry fussing, but everyone had different habits.

Inwardly, he breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't much of a host as he didn't bring home many friends and it probably wouldn't make a good impression to offer them leftovers.

"I'm glad you liked it..." he told her. "I mean, I'm not used to showing people these places. I think most girls would give a pass to following some guy they barely knew into the woods." he chuckled.

At the nudge, Zhane beamed at her. "I'll keep it in mind." he chuckled. He refrained from telling her that the biggest chance he'd taken recently was opening a closed door in that abandoned house he'd explored, nearly getting trampled by a frightened deer in the process.

Some things were best kept between him and his journal.

He looked down at Seiji just in time to catch him sticking his tongue out at Nani and laughed as the little boy yammered up at him in a language only the young understood. "What's the matter?" he asked, raising his brows at Seiji in mock concern. "Did you lose your friend?" He scanned the dragon child's face and hair briefly, locating the glowworm nestled along his hairline and extended a finger to gently brush it into his palm and return it to Seiji's arm where he could better watch it. "There he is." he told him. "He was just taking a walk."

That settled, he returned his attention to Nani. "Really?" Zhane asked "Heh...dunno why he thinks I'm anything special." Not when he's got a mom like you...

He bit the thought off to keep it from rising to his tongue to be said as the woods around them thinned and then tapered off back into the fields bordering his neighborhood.

At her question, he looked into the distance and squinted before pointing in the general direction of a cluster of lights. "About right there." he told her. "Once we hit the sidewalk, we take a right up the second street and its about the fourth house in. Not too far."

His brow furrowed a bit as he returned his gaze to her. "Need a rest?" he asked her.
