RP: A Curse is Lifted

Date: August 22, 2005
Participants: Sei and Nika
Status: Complete
Go here to see where the RP took place.

Trinityblue
Sei pasued a moment in his walk through the woods, looking around. It seemed like forever since he had walked in these woods. Had he been at Lyra''s place that long, recovering? Most likely.

And here he was now, following her magical trail. She had gone some place and something told him it might not be a good thing. She was more than free to do what she wanted to do, but all the same. He being maskless and the king not could equal trouble.

He sighed, then continued to walk towards where he last sinced her magic being.

Green_Eyes
In the short amount of time that he''d spent with his sister, she''d given him so much to think about. She had pushed buttons only she would have dared to push; and too many issues had been brought to the surface at the same time.

After she''d left he''d slumped down on the nearest log, and buried his mask covered face in his hands.

He missed Sound terribly...

... and then, there was the guilt.

He should have been able to do something that night. Nika was sure that he could have stopped it... if only... If only he''d had more time.

Trinityblue
Sei reached out, moving some branches aside from his path and paused once more at seeing a figure hunched over, face in his hands.

Nika. His shoulders slumped a bit as he realized she would go stright for him. Well, here went nothing. Slowly and gently he placed a cartoony image of himself watching Nika from behind, mor ein the forest. It was a good way of making his presence known.

Or so he figured.

Green_Eyes
Nika jumped when he recieved the cartoony image of Sei watching him, startled at having his thoughts so suddenly interupted. It brought him relief, however; A distraction from everything that was troubling him.

Nevermind that Sei was Sound''s brother.

He twisted on the log, turning to smile and wave half-heartedly at Sei, ''Hey.''

Trinityblue
Oh boy. Lyra did a real number on him, possibly.

He returned the greeting with a small nod and a soft smile that was hidden behind the mask, stepping out of the woods and going to where Nika was. He took a seat under a tree facing the teen, leaning his walking stick against him, over a shoulder and crossing his arms on it. His eyes studied him a moment.

''Appologies. What troubles you...?'' He asked, his mental voice being soft once more.

Green_Eyes
''There''s no need to apologize,'' Nika''s voice sounded friendly enough, and the teen was trying his best to pretend that nothing was wrong. Sometimes, though, it was just too hard to disguise the frustration and hurt.

''You''re cartoons always make me smile,'' he added, wondering if he could get away with not answering Sei''s questiong.

He studied the other masked being for a moment and then decided that, no, Sei wouldn''t let him ignore the question.

''I just met my sister dearest.''

Even he was surprised by the bitternes in his tone.

Trinityblue
Sei smirked behind the mask at the way Nika answered him. Trying to advoid the question only to wind up answering it. Well, that saved him the trouble of prying further for his answer.

''Lyra.. does have way with people.'' He said, slowly again and once more studying the teen-king. Well, he wasn''t really a king any more, now was he?

''She bring up unwanteding things..?'' He asked. Judgeing by how he was, those things more than liekly messed with Nika''s head.

Green_Eyes
''She sure does.''

It wasn''t in his character to spit or snap or lose control, but Lyra had always been able to bring out the worst in him and at the moment, the mere thought of her was enough to drive him to do...

...something very unNika-like...

''She brought up some things...'' he spoke slowly, choosing his words carefully. At first, he''d thought that Sei could have distracted him from his troubles, and now he found himself telling the other masque about what was troubling him, ''About the night we were cursed... and... Sound.''

He had never mentioned her out loud before. It seemed so much more real now, actually saying it...

''Sound...'' he repeated, more to himself then to Sei.

Trinityblue
''Cantalena.'' Sei said simply. ''Her names was once Cantalena. My twin.'' His voice wasn''t harsh as he mentally spoke the words, but it was more distant, as if it had come from his past self.

Again he watch Nika, noting the more agreesive behavior that was caused by whatever was said. This wouldn''t be good if he was to move on with it. ''Speaking of it might help. I remember that night.''

Green_Eyes
''Thanks,'' he smiled at Sei, glad to finally have a name to call her by. Cantalena. It was beautiful... and to him, it suited her perfectly.

''How do you remember it?''

Nika had spent some time wondering if the others, who had been cursed like him, blamed him for what had happened. The teen felt as though it was his fault, and that he should have been able to stop what had happened from happening.

That, more than anything else, was what made him angry.

He was dissapointed in himself. Why hadn''t he noticed sooner? Maybe then he could have stopped it.

It was Lyra who had brought this anger to the surface and he was upset-

Wait.

The more rational part of his brain had sudddenly decided to kick in.

Why was he mad at his sister?

He wasn''t.

Now that he really thought about it, he wasn''t mad at her.

She''d only brought the issues to the surface, and perhaps she''d poured a bit of salt on his old wounds, but overall, she wasn''t the reason he was so upset.

Nika had been using her, tricking himself into believing that he was mad at her because it kept it from realizing the truth.

He was angry with himself; dissapointed and upset.

Trinityblue
''Remember people, lots of people all over.'' Sei started, closing his eyes and leaning against the tree as he brough up the memory. ''Music, laugher, masks... People danced. Good food too. Very good mini sausages.'' He smirked at this thought since he had been at the snack bar mostly, and trying to advoid as many of the laughing people as possible. ''Hated parties.''

''Then... was yelling, bright flash with screams, and nothing.'' He finished, looking at Nika again. He had been worried then, when he had heard the yelling. But that worry was short lived once the light, the curse, hit them all.

Again something was going on in Nika''s head and Sie waited for him to tell. If he would tell.

Green_Eyes
A smile was hidden behind his mask as Sei retold the happier events of the night.

''It was excellent, wasn''t it? The food, I mean,'' there was a hint of humor in his voice, ''I remember the cherry flavored jello really well. Now, that was some fine jello.''

And then, when Sei began to describe the yelling and the bright flash of light, any hint that Nika''s mood might have been lightening dissapeared.

He wanted to tell somebody... To get everything off of his chest...

...and something was urging him to tell Sei.

But what would Sei think of him? Would he blame him for not reacting soon enough?

''I...'' his voice shook and Nika stared up at the sky. He focused on a stray cloud and he watched as the wind pushed it, ''I... should have... should have been... I should have seen it coming. Sei, I know I could have stopped it... I just needed a bit more time.''

Again, his mind wondered about all of the innocent lives lost that night.

Trinityblue

There was silence between them as Sei thought on how best to answer him. It wasn''t Nika''s fault it had happened. If anything-

''I... am as much to blame as you believe you are.'' He said carefully, looking stright at Nika. '' If more time, could silenced the spell and it never effected.''

''Don''t blame you.''

Green_Eyes
A small bubble of understanding swelled in the pit of his stomach, and it sat there for a few moments before he turned to Sei, meeting his gaze.

''It wasn''t your fault...''

And then, the bubble of understanding swelled a few sizes larger and the corners of his eyes turned upwards in a smile.

''Thank you.''

Sei always seemed to know what to say and exactly when to say it... That was definately a gift.

''I don''t blame you, either.''

Trinityblue
Sei''s eyes also curved as he grinned behind the mask. Course, he never blamed himself for what happened, but he wasn''t about to let Nika know that. Besides, at the same time it made him feel good also, not to be blamed.

But there was one more thing he wanted to ask. One more thing he needed to know. The smile faded as he thought of how to ask. ''Cantalena.. what do you remember? .. How does it make you feel...?''

Green_Eyes
If it had been anybody else to ask the question, possibly even Io or Zahar, he would have withdrawn. Nika just wouldn''t have been able to answer the question...

...but it was different with Sei. It just seemed okay to talk about Cantalena with him. He was her brother; Sei had known things about Cantalena that even Nika might have never learned. Things only a sibling could know.

''Honestly,'' he felt ashamed to admit it, ''Not very much. I remember her voice the most clearly... and a few other little things.''

''I miss her.
''

Trinityblue
Not much? Well, that was to be expected, but at least he remembered her. Not like before.

''Remember you greived greatly. If.... mask is removed you will remember. Everything.'' Or atleast to the extent that one would normally remember. ''Masks keep memories from us.''

Green_Eyes
Was Sei giving him a choice? Nika studied him, briefly and then he ran a nervous hand through his blonde hair.

Did he want to remember everything?

That was why he hadn''t sought Sei out in the first place. He''d been able to link him with Lyra and Io, and he''d guessed that Sei had something to do with them being maskless but he never asked any questions... never asked how or when or why.

He''d just accepted it.

...because he was afraid.

Afraid of remembering... and afraid of hurting.

Would it really be so bad? A part of the pain he was experiencing now was not being able to remember Cantelena. He wanted to remember her so badly and at the same time he was afraid.

''I''m afraid of remembering,'' he admitted, ''but... I''d rather remember everything than be left with pieces of a puzzle. I''m not sure what will hurt more, remembering everything or not being able to remember.''

Something Sei had said earlier reminded him off something.

''About that night? You said you could have silenced the magic and stopped it? Is that how you removed Io''s and Lyra''s masks, then? By silencing the magic?''

Trinityblue

Sei nodded simply, still looking at him as his fingers rubbed together. ''Silence is me. No other spell talants have I but that.'' This was going to hurt... and make Lyra pissed. She might not even take him back to her nice, quite sub-space pocket. Where the thoughts of others couldn''t invade his mind.

''Will be drained. You may experence some pain, full power and memories will come back. Io and Lyra both passed out. Believe you have remembered the most important thing that would hurt you. Some memories can be so... tramatic that one cannot excape it. Want to avoid that.'' He explained.

''Choice is yours, no others.''

Green_Eyes
Pain? Nika faultered, reconsidering. It wasn''t so bad, living like he was. He''d grown used to it...

...but he longed to be able to speak, to be able to feel the wind brush his cheek...

Was he ready?

Mixed feelings replaced the bubble of understanding that had sat, comfortably at the pit of his stomach and now, he felt like he might be sick.

He wanted to remember.

Didn''t he?

Yes.

...but he was afraid of remembering.

...and yet, he wanted to rememeber.

Nika swallowed his fear and smiled at Sei. He was worried, yes, but he knew, that when he looked back upon this day that he would regret choosing not to remember.

He had to do this.

For himself.

''Alright,'' he took a deep, calming and relaxing breath, ''I want to remember.''

Trinityblue

Sei almost smirked at the inner turmoil that Nika was going through. He knew what it was like, seeing how he was so tempted to take off his own mask. But there was still the fear of not knowing everything that held him back. However seeing Nika take on that fear made him feel better about it.

He might not be the last Masque to have the mask removed... but he''d still wait on that.

He stood, walking till he was closer to Nika, then sat on the ground, placing his stick beside him. ''Might be my own pain I speak of. Come, sit on the ground in front of me.''

He just hoped Lyra would take him in after this...

Green_Eyes
Nika moved slowly. He was worried. Immensely.

What if something went wrong? Would he be able to stand the pain?

He smiled at Sei as he sat down on the ground in front of him and spoke, ''Do me a favor? Make sure Gee knows where I am. You mentioned that I might pass out? Well, I''m afraid she''ll go nuts with worry if I don''t show up tonight.''

He''d only said it to lighten the atmoshpere. Was it just him, or was there too much tension?

He took another, calming breath. At the moment, he found that relaxing was a difficult thing to accomplish.

Now that the moment was actually happening he was excited and curious... but those two feelings were closely followed by impatience and worry.

All he could do now was sit and wait.

Trinityblue

Again Sei nodded and then closed his eyes as he placed a hand on Nika''s mask. First he would search for Gee though Nika''s link, then he would go on with the mask removal.

The link too a moment to find, but once a connection was made he sent the image of him and Nika in the woods and the surround area. Hopefully she would be able to figure out where.

Then he withdrew, focusing in on the mask itself and placing is other hand on it. He was also nervous, but for a slightly different reason. The ''removal'' was the easy part. Dealing with the after effects of the magic drain was another thing.

Sei moved those thoughts out of his head, forcing his mind on the mask and the magic in it. Slowly he began to sever the mask''s magic, sepereting it from Nika''s. As he did, he pulled the mask slowly away from the other man''s face. Once it was off he tossed the mask away from them.

It took amoment, the thoughts of people quickly creeping up on his mind, focing their way in. He groaned silently, moving to the side and gripping his head agian as the thoughts became louder, screaming in his head.

Green_Eyes
It was the strangest feeling.

Sei had mentioned that he might have experienced pain and he was right. It was unlike anthing he had ever felt before and he longed to yell at Sei to stop, but he held his tongue. He''d made his decision and he was going to go through with it.

It would all be worth it in the end. He was sure.

Nika felt Sei remove his mask and he bombarded with a series of noises, voices, sights.

He was vaguely aware of Sei, clutching his head and groaning in pain. Nika could do nothing to comfort the other man, for he couldn''t focus on anything... His mind swam...

His eyes rolled backwards, and then there was blackness as he hit the ground with a soft thud.

RP: Finding NikA

Participants: Nika, Gee, Shiva, Chae, Sei (small appearance), Tynan (small appearance)
Status: Complete

Green_Eyes
When the image of Nika sitting with a masqued man she didn't know flitted through her mind as plain as day G_E had been scrubbing off a few days of dirt and grime in the shower. It had provided her with a welcome interuption to troubling thoughts about her family. She'd been grumbling something about how she and her mother didn't get along when... BAM.

Or atleast, that's what it had felt like. The young woman may have had a 'scattered' brain that often came up with random thoughts but nothing had ever been that random and nothing had ever appeared as an actual image.

Something told her Nika needed her. She needed to find the place he'd been; find it and bring him home.

Had something happened to him? Was he hurt? Who had that strange man with him been?

Worries raced through her mind at top speed as she dressed equally as fast.

G_E was breathing heavily by the time she burst out the front door, pulling on one of her boots and tucking a dagger into the protective casing that was hidden inside the other as she went.

chaeval
That was a far from usual sight.

Chae had been keeping largely to herself...Odessa likewise. But seeing the other guardian stagger out her door half dressed and frantic, Chae's trouble alarm went off.

"Gee?" She asked, getting to her feet, as Odessa slunk quietly back into the house. Chae restrained a sigh. One of her children avoids her, and her other one avoids everyone else. "Is everything allright? You look..." she groped for a word "troubled."

Green_Eyes
If Chae hadn't spoken, G_E would hardly have noticed the other woman. At that point her mind was only focused on one thing; finding her boy.

Ever since he'd become a teenager she rarely had any idea where he was, nevermind what he was up to and she was sick and tired of it.

What was this? The 500th time he'd forgot to mention he was leaving?

When she got her hands on that boy... Oh. Was he ever in for it. Granted, that was only if he wasn't hurt or anything. If that was the case, whoever or whatever was the cause of his injury was surely going to feel the wrath of her mothering ways.

Deep down, she didn't know that he had been hurt and only that something had happened. Something about the masked man in the image had made her trust him.

He was another masque, after all. Perhaps Nika knew him.

"Chae!" she spoke rushedly, "Something's happened to Nika! I can't explain how I know. This image of him and this other masked man sitting in the forest just 'appeared' in my head. I think I'm supposed to go and find them."

Then G_E groaned as a sudden thought struck her.

She had no idea where she was supposed to look for her boy. In the image there had been an old, fallen log and a ton of leaves and long grass... but that could have described any part of the forest.

chaeval
"Nika?" Chae spoke the name with some surprise "I didn't realize he wasn't around."

She kept her voice soothing as she tried to think of what to do. Obviously Gee was a mess. It seemed these children could render the most stoic of them to shambles just by their actions, and she sighed.

"Well, you obviously can't go alone. But you don't know where to look, do you?" she saw the misery in the other's face and relented a bit. "Would one of the telepaths know? I would ask Shi, but I haven't seen her..." was she with him? Hurt?

Panic began to tinge her own thoughts. "Was he alone other than the other Masque?"

Other? Who else had a child?

Green_Eyes
G_E knew that she was over-reacting; just a bit. There was no gaurantee that her boy had been hurt at all and she knew that she shouldn't be wigging out like she was... but there was also no gaurantee that he was safe, either, and it was her right as his mother to ground his a** into next year for making her worry like this.

She would be having no more of this 'dissapearing for nights on end without telling her where he was.' It just wasn't funny anymore. Well, actually, it never had been.

"He's been gone for so long. Honestly, I never see that boy's masked face anymore. If not for some food and this is about the 50th time that he's not mentioned where he was going... and the first I've seen anything."

She was referring to the image of Nika and Sei sitting in the woods. It still surprised her, the strange feeling actually seeing a picture inside of her head had brought. It was so different from hearing Nika's voice.

"Shi wasn't with them, if you were wondering," Gee calmed down enough to offer Chae an understanding smile, "At least, as far as I could see. But that's not saying much."

"It looked... just like every other part of the forest. Long grass, trees, a ton of leaves, and a rotten log on the floor."

The young woman turned to the forest, through her hands up in the air and let out an exasperated sigh, "Where to start?"

Kya_25
Tynan had been watching the camp. He had an uneasy feeling in his stomach since a few days ago. Kataio still was no where to be seen. As much as he didn't want to admit it he was worried for the girl. Perched in a tree he watched hours upon hours. Finally he saw some of the other 'gaurdians' heading toward the trees. Silently he watched waiting for them to get close enough. They were a ways to the east of him, but he would catch up after they had entered the forest. They were making no attempt at covering their tracks or hiding their voices. Patience and he would find out the right time to strike, or just that little bit of information he needed.

chaeval
Chae shook her head. She hadn't been about to ask, but was relived to be told nonetheless. "Perhaps one of the telepath masks could locate him? You don't recognize the area?"

She tried to think of where they could go to be in a position to locate them.

"I swear they all need to have little bells around their necks so we never lose them." she muttered.

Green_Eyes
"Do you think one of them could?" G_E turned to Chae, a hopeful expression temporarily replacing her worried one, "I have no idea where he could be..."

In spite of the situation G_E laughed, "I'll personally supply every single one of them with a bell and I'll stock my shelves full of extras."

Would Shi be able to find him? It would be so wonderful if it was easy as that and even if Shi couldn't find him, G_E had her heart set on combing every single part of the forest until she found her boy, no matter how long it took her.

Kya_25
Tynan's ears perked. Telepaths... No that would do me no good I couldn't talk to the masked one. That and if I can't feel Kata I doubt the maked one would. Anger and frustration stirring he slipped from tree to tree near the two girls watching them and listening.

chaeval
*would I be able to find who?*. Shiva had looked from the window to see Chae talking to a rather distraught Gee and made her way to and out the door. *What seems to be the problem here?*

"Gee can't find Nika. She says something odd happened with him and another Masque. Not hurt." she hastened as Shiva stiffened. "But we would like to find him to make sure everything is okay."

She did not look entirely convinced, her eyes widening a fraction and then narrowing. *What information do we have?* she inquired.

"Nothing much." Chae related briefly what they had discussed and Shi shook her head.

*I am not telepath. But I am an empath...weakened though." she fumbled unhappily with her mask. *Who was this other mask? Describe them to me, please.*

"Gee." Chae said "Shi wants to know who Nika was speaking with."

Green_Eyes
"Well..." G_E began, wracking her memory, "He was tall and he wore a brown mask."

She paused and drummed against her forehead with her fingertips, "His hair was long and black... and he carried a... staff? Yes, I believe that's what it was. Or else, it was a rather large stick."

chaeval
Chae watched Shi's eyes flicker and said "You know him?"

Shiva looked to them both for a moment and then gave a brisk nod. *I believe so. I also know where I had last met him, myself. That might be a good place to start looking. If he has a residence nearby as I suspect, then it would stand to reason he might have spoken to Nika there. It's a bit of a walk, though.*

Green_Eyes
"What did she say, Chae?" G_E stared at Chae for a moment and then turned her gaze to Shi. Her bright green eyes shone hopefully.

((God. SOSOSOSOSO sorry it took me so long to post. I was so busy.))

chaeval
"She said to get a walking stick, we're taking a hike." she tried not to sigh as she said it, she had rather been looking forward to a morning working in the garden, herself.

But it wasn't like this was trivial, anyway. "I'll grab a first aid kit and some other supplies. Bring a change of clothes as well for him."

Green_Eyes
Well, then, that meant that Shi had some kind of idea where he was. Good news!

At least there could be some of that today, she thought, a sad excuse for a smile forming on her lips. Her baby had better be alright! Or there would be hell to pay.

Green hurried back into her house, collected everything she thought Nika would need and rushed back out side.

chaeval
((Sorry! I saw "Guest" and thought I was the last to post!))

Shiva waited patiently until Gee returned and then turned to Chae with a brief nod. Turning she began to stride confidently towards the wood. If she was at all anxious about the fate of Nika, it did not show in her demeanor. For once...the mask was a welcom support.

Pushing aside the foliage she said to Chae *we have a ways to go. We need to head in northerly direction from here.*

Green_Eyes
G_E couldn't help feeling at a bit of a disadvantage. She couldn't hear Shiva and so it made her difficult to follow instructions. Luckily, something about the way Shi move -with a purposeful stride- told her that the masked woman had a fialry good idea of where she was going.

It would be best if she simply followed close behind Shi and Chae, and she did exactly that, her mind set on finding her son.

chaeval
The trip was long, but not exceptionally difficult. Rather it wasn't because Shi had travelled them in both her dreams and in reality once or twice. She knew the paths and trode them well and confidently.

They would find Nika, she knew. They would find him, or there'd be hell to pay.

Green_Eyes
She wouldn't have been so worried about him if it hadn't been for the lack of activity that was not emitting from that section of her mind that Nika had been attached to.

For as long as she could remember, his presence had always been there, linked to her mind by an invisible chain. She'd grown accustomed to that feeling, and it such an alien thing to her; not being able to feel that link.

G_E tried to find it with everything she had, nearly slamming into the side of a tree as she followed close behind Chae.

At first, there was nothing.

'Nika?' she called as loud as she could, sounding desperate.

And, then, there was a flicker as her mind recognised the link she shared with her son. It was weak at first, but it was begining to grow stronger. It had changed. There was something different about it, but that didn't matter.

Atleast he was alive.

"He's alive," she told the others.

chaeval
Shiva felt her shoulders slump in relief at the pronouncement, and just nodded shortly.

Can she sense where he's coming from? She threw the question over her shoulder at Chae, who was staring at Gee with a frown.

Chae relayed the question quietly

Green_Eyes
She hadn't thought of that before. With an awkward shrug, she smiled half-heartedly at Shi and Chae before trying to make out where Nika was.

Something had happened to him, she was sure. The link's properties had changed and she was having a hard time trying to guess which direction to head in.

"We should go east," she blinked and then headed in that general direction.

chaeval
Chae frowned, mincing a few steps to catch up and steady Gee. She seemed a bit out of it since her verbal outburst.

"Are you allright?" she asked in a curious undertone as Shi took a few steps to the front, seeming confident now of the direction. It had taken Gee's confirmation to cement it in her mind that Nika was near where Seii lurked.

Picking up the pace slightly, she reigned in her impatience to get there, watching the other two out of the corner of her eye. The sooner they got there, the sooner they could get both Gee and Nika back home and likely bundled off to bed if needed.

There was an anxiousness that was growing in her the closer they got to Seii though. What had happened there?

Her fingers brushed the hilt of her sword reassuringly. Answers soon. More questions soon.

Soon.

Trinityblue
By the time they would get there, Sei would be gone. He had woken up with possibly the worst headache yet as the thoughts of the world bumbarded his mind. All the other times, he was in the safty of Lyra's pocket home, where thoughts were limited to his own and hers when she decided to pop in. If she decided too.

However he wasn't as weak now has he had been the other times. He was slowly getting used to the strain, it seemed. He also knew the others were on their way to retrieve the boy.

Heh, boy. Such an odd term to use for once King. Even odder still, since they had once been the same age. Nika was perhaps a bit older back then. But the past was the past, and even one such as Nika shouldn't mess with time that far gone.

Sei mentally sighed to himself once he saw his cabin and went stright for it. He needed more sleep, more rest. Being silence sometimes really sucked.

Ah well.

Green_Eyes

Was she alright?

G_E cast Chae a sideways glance, "Honestly? No. I know that he's alive... But something's happened. Something's changed."

She offered the other woman a half-hearted smile, "I'll be fine. I just want to take him home."

And lock him up there for the rest of his life...

But, she knew that she couldn't very well do that. She would have to let him out after a month or so.

The blonde woman concentrated on the link she shared with her son and gasped when she realised that they were closer to him than she'd originally thought.

"We're close," she announced.

chaeval

Close? Close as in how close? As in stumbling over a prone body close or close in the sense that they were in the general vicinity close?

The question chased itself around in her mind, even as Shi just rolled slightly up on the balls of her feet and began to move more warily.

"Im sure it will be fine." Chae said with somewhat useless reassurance. "You'd know if something were truly wrong."

Would Gee? Chae doubted that she would know for Shi these days. Still, the other woman seemed to have a more stable relationship.

She had her hand over the handle of her gun...just to be sure.

Green_Eyes
"I suppose that I would," G_E nodded. The young woman could not shake the sick feeling that seemed to have permanantly planted itself in her stomach ever since they'd started out on the hunt for her boy.

She noticed the hands that rested on her friends' weapons and G_E too, pulled her daggers out of her boots. It was comforting, to hold her daggers, in a strange way.

'Nika?' she called out to him, wondering where in the hell to look next.

The link she shared with him seemed to be telling her to go South a little ways, and so she turned and headed in that direction.

chaeval
Shi noted the slight change in direction, and shifted her own. She had never really regretted her lack of telepathy, but did now. It made things more difficult in situations like this where information needed to be disemminated quickly.

She hated being mute.

*Nika.* she added a non verbal shout to the fray. If there were a true telepath nearby, her voice would be heard, but something needed to be done to locate Nika quickly now.

Green_Eyes
They were so close now. Any minute, one of them would end up tripping over him, G_E was sure of it. She could not gather any more information from the link that she shared with him, as there seemed to be no more directions to give.

Alright then.

He must be somewhere nearby.

"Look around," she mumbled, barely loud enough for the others to hear.

The blonde squinted into the forest. It shouldn't have been that difficult to find her son, as the boy would not have been easily hidden. His skin was to blue and his hair was to bright.

-----

Meanwhile, a few odd yards away from the group that searched for him, Nika began to stir.

He tried to sit up and then swiftly lay back down, realising that his decision to sit up hand't been the best one he could have made. His head pounded.

...and why was he only seeing fuzzy shapes? Trying to stay calm, the recently unmasked man, blinked several times and gradually, his vision cleared.

"My head," he groaned loudly and clutched at his forehead.

Wait... was that skin?

Had he actually spoken aloud?

There was a pause and then he blinked again, slowly recalling his chat with Sei.

His mask was gone!

chaeval
Turning about, she let her eyes and ears as open as possible, searching.

*Nika?* she repeated, more firmly. If he was harmed, he might not be hearing well.

The wind was gently rustling through the area, stirring about playfully. She did not feel their teasing fingers at all.

What had happened? Where was he?

Green_Eyes
He knew that voice.

"Shi?" Nika called out to her, his voice voice horse and barely audible. Frustrated, he cleared his throat and then called out to her again, loud enough for her to hear;

"Shiva?"

The painful throb in his head had changed into a dull ache, and he could see clearly now, but he didn't quite trust himself to stand yet.

The wind blew past him, and he shivered, delighted to be able to feel the wind on his face.

---

G_E had gasped when she'd heard Nika's voice. His actual voice.

She glanced at Shi for a moment, confused.

What in the hell was going on?

Where was her boy?

"Nika?" she returned his call, walking in the direction of his voice.

chaeval
Shi rooted to the spot, eyes opening a fraction in shock at the audible voice.

She had heard it. Not in her mind, but in the ears that were even now burning.

First Io...now him? Had it happened?

Another mask discarded.

She almost ran then. Ran from what he knew now, what information he had that she lacked. What knowledge. She almost ran from him.

Why did it have to change so soon?

Closing her eyes for a moment, she walked forward to where Gee was already beginning to bend down.

*How do you feel?* she struggled to keep her own "voice" normal. Tears began to fill her eyes, and she tried to shut them away.

Green_Eyes
G_E was absolutely speachless. She didn't know what to say... and she wasn't sure that there were any words for what she wanted to say.

They had switched roles. Now she was the mute one.

She cast Shiva a sideways glance and her heart went out to the girl. Suddenly feeling like she was intruding on something she no right to be involved in.

Spotting his mask a ways a way, G_E stood up and went to the spot where it lay, trying to give Shi and Nika the privacy they deserved.

"Like somebody's taken a boulder to my head," Nika answered her honestly, "and at the same time, I feel... Great. The wind feels amazing against-

He broke off. Were those tears in her eyes?

"Shi?" he whispered, concern in his voice "are you crying? What's wrong? Are you hurt?"

chaeval
{*snicker* I just realized that your icon is still masked XD}

She shook her head abruptly, kneeling down out of arms reach. *It's nothing. Do you feel able to get up?* her eyes swept him for a few moments for injuries, avoiding his eyes in the process.

She was relieved he was apparently unhurt, but ...

*Is anyone else around? Who was here with you?*

Green_Eyes
"It isn't nothing," he insisted, shifting slightly so that he was close enough to grasp her hand.

"Come on," Nika squeazed her hand gently and looked her over, searching for any sign of damage. There didn't appear to be anything wrong...

"Sei was with me, and I'll be able to get up in a moment. I'd rather know what's upset you, sweetheart."

Sei had been with him when he'd passed out. He vaguely remembered that the other man had been in a lot of pain. Where was he now? Nika couldn't imagine how he'd managed to leave if he'd felt half as bad as Nika did now.

But, at the moment, making sure that Shi was okay was more important to him than anything else.

chaeval
*We didn't see Seii around...* she protested half-heartedly. She was about to get to her feet, when his hand stopped her.

She looked down at their fingers, blue over lavendar, and felt tears threatening again.

*You changed.* she said softly. * You changed and I still -.*

She tried to shrug, failed. She wanted to tell him it was okay if he didn't care anymore. But it wasn't. she still cared too much. She wanted to pretend it didn't bother her that she was still trapped, but it did. It did moreso now.

Green_Eyes
It was him.

He was why she was so upset. Nika's heart sank.

"Shi..." he murmered, moving closer to her, still clutching her hand in his. The tall boy wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him.

"You know, this doesn't change anything. You and me? We're still... you and me."

G_E stood with her back to the couple. A half-hearted smile sat on her lips as she clutched the mask he had shed to her heart.

He was all grown up now.

For her, it had happend all too soon.

chaeval
Chae had followed Gee's lead, leaving the two alone for a bit. She had made a circle around the area, seeing some signs of an additional prescense, but was unable to locate anything other than that.

"There was someone else here. gone now." she said redundantly to the other woman. "Not sure what happened. First Io, now this...I wish I knew what was going on with all this."

*Is it?* she countered softly *Nothing at all has changed?*

She considered. Had she misunderstood? Was he unable to remember, even with the mask off? Or was he merely still in the process? Surely when he remembered...it could not be simply "the same".

Green_Eyes
It was a moment before G_E responded to Chae's statement. The blonde woman had been busy, lost in her memories of the little boy she'd raised.

"Hmm?" she blinked at Chae for a moment, trying to remember what the other woman had said. "Oh, yes. I'd love to know what happened, as well. I plan on drilling Nika for questions once he has time to rest."

"Well," he shrugged, "generally speaking, so much has changed. I'm maskless now... and I remember... Sound. She was my wife, you know. The mother of my daughters."

Nika's voice was soft when he spoke about Sound. He wasn't sure how Shi would take the news and he hadn't been to keen on telling her. Actually, until now, he'd been at a loss as to how to tell her.

"Her name was Cantalena... I..."

He paused and then hurried on, running a shaking hand through his hair, "But remembering her... that doesn't change how I feel about you."

chaeval
*She was a lovely woman.* she answered simply, no sense or malice in saying what was true. *A beautiful voice and a very graceful woman. You mourned perpetually after her passing.*

No malice? Or was that a hidden dig? She blinked, considering. No, she had not meant that as a reproof, merely a reminder of the things that were there.

He had remembered...afterall.

Green_Eyes
"She was," Nika nodded, agreeing with Shi. He remembered very little about the woman who had once played such a large role in his life. He loved her still, but he loved Shi just as much.

"And so are you."

chaeval
She blinked, considering the sincerity of his words. And then gave a chuckle. *I guess we can't tell the adults to go away and leave us alone, huh?*

Green_Eyes
"We could, but I'm not sure that they would."

Nika laughed softly and craned his neck to look at Gee, who was still clutching his mask to her chest, and Chae. They both looked like they were ready to leave.

"What did you have in mind, luv?"

Jokingly, Nika wiggled his eyebrows at her.

chaeval
It still hurt a bit to look at him directly, so she bounded to her feet energetically. *A race?* she challenged with faux energy.

Green_Eyes
Nika faultered for a moment, not sure that he was up to it. However, the sudden burst of energy that Shi seemed to have forced him to stand up and grin at her.

"You'll kick my a**, but," he took a moment to stretch out his legs, "I could use the excersice, so, why not?"

G_E, who'd been watching the pair for some time now, was quite surprised to see Nika stand up so quickly.

"What're you doing?" she questioned him, arching an eyebrow curiously.

"Shi wanted to race home."

"Are you sure you can handle it? I mean... you're not too tired are you?"

Honestly, his head still hurt a bit, but that was irrevelant. He could still run.

"I'm fine, Gee. Don't worry," he rolled his eyes at his mother and finished stretching.

"Don't you roll your eyes at me," she laughed, before tucking his mask into her belt and then, suddenly, she was off in the direction of the camp.

"Where are you going?" Nika gasped, staring at the back of his mother's head, that was nearly out of sight now. Gee was fast.

"Last one home is a rotten egg!" G_E yelled over her shoulder.

RP: One Last Good-Bye

A small portal opened near the shack in the woods, sturring up leaves and dust. Out of the portal stepped a tall, sunkissed skinned man with long black hair that was braded in the back. One lock was free of the main brade and in a smaller on that ran down his right side. He was dressed in his usual brown, handman clothing with his cloak flowing in the wind. He smiled at this.

How long had it been since he flet the wind on his face? The gentle brushing of his bangs against his fleash? And how long had it been since he could so easily shut out the minds of others? Far too long. Before, he realized, he never was able to shut them out as well as now. Before, there was a soft hum of the thoughts of others in the background but now there were none. Wonderful silence!

Seishuko sighed and went for his house. There would be packing that needed to be done, if he was going to start in a game of 'cat and mouse'. Lyra was probably else where in space, making her name. But there were things here that still needed to be done. Least, there were for him.

After packing one light bag of things he'd need for the trip (tea being the most important thing of all), he walked around the house with a small, weird stick of what could be mistaken as chalk and wrote odd syombles on the sides of his house, door and shead. He wasn't a good spell-speaker (for given reasons), but he was an exallent spell-marker.

Then he headed for the woods. He would need to find Nika one last time before his trip.

Ever since his mask had been removed Nika had become very fond of spending as much time with nature as was possible. Outside, his face was open to all of the elements and the feel of them against his cheeks was something he held dear.

He'd planned on taking a short walk through the woods and he'd created new paths through the bush, tired of the same old things.

It was under the shade of a huge tree with low-hanging branches that he'd fallen asleep. A small, orange spider tickled a path across his chin and Nika, still deeply slumbering, swatted it away with his hand.

The spider fell to the ground nearby and stalked off in the other direction, miffed that she'd been treated with such disrespect.

Sei had discovered this new path on his way to the camp. It wasn't Rade or animal made, so it interest him for a bit. Least, it was headed for the camp, which was where he was going.

But as he walked, he came across the young man, laying under the tree in slumber. A small, fox-like grin went over his face as he silenced his step and walked over. Once about an arm's length away, he took his walking stick and lightly poked the sleeping man in the side.

Nika had always been a heavy sleeper and when Sei poked him in the side, he mumbled something under his breath and rolled onto his side, intent on sleeping the afternoon away.

A small laugh choked the slient man before he stood and took three paces away from Nika. Then, suddenly, the sound of a bullhorn going off rang in Nika's mind thanks to Sei.

The sound rand in his ears and Nika scrambled to his feet, panting from fright. With wide eyes, he spun around to see who (or what) had caused the noise.

"Sei?" he asked, recalling the look of his friend's face from the past.

Nika took a few moments to regain his composure and then smiled at him, "So, you decided to remove your mask after all? How do you feel?"

'Better.' The other man answered, though his lips didn't move an inch and his voice still went into the mind of others. There was a smile on those lips as well. One that held an air of playfulness to it. 'I can recover faster from unmasking and.... it is easier to find the words I seek to give to others.'

'And you? How have you been?'

"That's good to hear," Nika nodded, "So, will you be removing more masks now that you'll recover faster?"

"I'm worried about Zahar," he sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "I really want to talk to her, but I'm afraid that she'll run away from me. Do you know how she is?"

'Zahar feels.... quiet guilty about what had happened.' Sei answered him carefully and avoided the other question on removing masks. That should be saved for later. 'And she is afriad of being hated for what had happened.'

Nika paused a moment to wonder why Sei'd avoided his first question. Then, he shrugged it off and continued the conversation, knowing that Sei would tell him everything in good time.

"I don't hate her and I hope that the others don't, either."

'She might just need you to talk to her.' Sei offered with a small shrug. 'She was afriad of me when she found out I knew what had happened. Perhaps all she needs to know is that her father - from a life - does care and isn't angry with her?'

Casually he made a motion for Nika to sit before he lowered to the ground to sit as well. This indicated that their talk might be longer than a come-and-go conversation.

"I wish I could hold her like I used to and just make everything go away," Nika sighed, scratching his head and obediantly sat down across from Sei.

So, Sei had more to say? Nika gave the other man a curious look but didn't ask any questions. He was willing to let Sei speak first.

'Children have to grow and weather their own storms. But it's good for them to know you're still around to help out.' Sei told him with another small shrug before he leaded back on one hand. It wasn't as off handed a converstation as he was making it out to be, but... Nika did need to speak with her.

'How is Shiva doing? You are... perhaps the only one I've checked in on, after removing the mask.' He admitted then, having to gail to look slightly sheepish. And for a man that had all of his facal reactions hidden, it might have looked odd.

"I know," Nika sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "But I can't help but want to make her storm dissapear. I'm her father, after all. Its natural for me to want to keep her safe."

"Shi?" he shrugged, "I helped Chae bring her back to camp, but I haven't seen her since she woke up. While she was unconcious... I tried to talk Chae into reconciling with Shi. I'm not sure that it worked."

Sei frown at that news. 'I was worried about that.' He said, then was quite amoment as if thinking of something. 'Shi was... very close to her blood-mother. Perhaps she feels as though she would be betrying her birthmother by accepting Chae as her new mother?' He questioned, looking a Nika, but not expecting any for of answer. It was simply a suggestion.

He considered Sei's words carefully and turned them over and over inside his head.

"I don't believe she ever told me that," Nika sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, "We haven't had much time to talk about our past. Now that we both remember everything it might be easier...but... I'm not sure that she'll want to talk with me about it. Not at first."

He paused for a moment and chewed on his bottom lip, "...and if that is the case, she definately won't tell Chae."

The fact that Nika didn't know this information didn't catch Sei off gaurd. In fact, he expected it really. 'She simply needs to understand that just because Chae took her in as an adoptive mother, does not mean that her real mother will be replaced in her heart, nor betrayed. It simply is that form of a relationship.' His mental voice continued softly.

Now he had remember who's voice he used as his own. It was his father's voice, when he spoke softly. Sei never had a voice, so he mimiced the sound of other voices for his own. His 'main voice' was that of his father, and since he was male, a female voice would simply not do.

'Don't bring it up, though. Less you get tired of trying to nudge it out of her. I don't mind her being mad at me for telling my toughts on it.' He smirked.

"Telling me what Shi needs to understand is easier than tell her that," Nika grumbled and crossed his arms, knowing that mentioning anything about that part of her past would be dangerous. When he'd tried to talk to Chae, he hadn't seen any reason to be afraid of her.

There was reason to be frightened of Shi. How would she react? What would she say? Nika knew that he wouldn't be able to stand her pain or her anger. It would break him to see her that way.

"I'm going to try to be subtle... But, if that doesn't work I've no clue what I could do."

Sei gave a small, airy chuck at that answer. 'Shi will do as she thinks she should, it's a matter all go through. But if you were to say, then it gives her more to think on. But, that is your choice.' He told Nika, his more callous nature sneaking into their conversation.

There was a small moment of hesitation from him for a moment as he thought on what he should say next. 'What do you plan on doing now? Accourding to my Chosen, she, her sister and Io and the rest of that family are moving on to other places.'

"You're right, " Nika sighed, "But saying that I'll talk to her is easier said than done. What can I say?"

Both of their faces had grown used to being hidden behind a wooden shell and even Sei's emotions were easily read by anybody who knew him. Nika wondered if Sei knew that the look on his face screamed hesitation.

"I plan on staying," he nodded and smiled half-heartedly at Sei, "There's so much more that needs to be done."

Then, he sighed and a defeated look passed across his face. For a moment, his true age shown through, "I'll miss Io terribly... Are you going with them?"

'Only for a portion of their trip. Then I'll see things on my own. My last life was spent in the woods.. I'd like to try something new.' Sei answered, now letting it known that he too was leaving. His expression softened now, either unawear or uncareing of how much his face showed. It was simply another way of communicating.

But now he waited for the reaction of his leaving would cause.

It took a few moments for the words to register. Then, Nika gasped and looked at Sei with shock.

"You're leaving?" his eyes were wide with disbelief, "But... That means... What about the others?"

It was all so hard to comprehend. How could he return to camp and tell the others, who still wore masks, that they would never get to feel the heat of the sun against their faces?

Sei lips twiched into a smile before he shifted his posture and sat up strighter, bringing a bag around as he did. Then he reached into the bag, pulling out a small, almost plan looking wooden box. Around the edges were runes of their written spells. He held this box out to his old friend.

'This took some thought in making it right.' He said softly, though his smile was still in place. 'I give it to you to work.' One hand opened the lid and moved a soft red cloth aside. By opening it, a feeling now came from the box, one that was like a void of magic though not a harmful feeling. In the box was a very odd looking crystal. It held many colors and types of stone colors in it, dark and light and slightly shimmering.

Nika watched curiously as Sei lifted the small, wooden box from the bag. He admired the runes on the edges and realized that he already knew the meanings that belonged to most of them.

Once Sei had opened it a revealed the beautiful stone inside, Nika's eyes widened and he gently took it from the other man. The warm, familiar literally magical feeling brought a grin to his lips and it was all Nika could do but stare at the crystal.

"You made this?" he asked, "What does it do?"

He couldn't even begin to imagine.

'This crystal is called a Melody Stone. Lagre ones like this are farely rare, but this one is different from the others. I've charged it with a spell that will silence the curse on the masks and allow you to take them off. However... it comes with warning.' Sei told his old friend and his tone moved to a more serious one, as did his look.

'Do not attempt to use your own magic while holding the stone. It silences spells, as my magic does. Keep in the box after use, the runes will keep and renew the charge on the stone. You'll be able to tell when it's weak and when it's ready by the strength you feel from it. Like right now. It's ready to be used.' He said, then paused as he figured out how to give the last warning. 'And be careful when having someone unmasked. If they are not ready to face whatever demons may lie in their old memories, then the result can be very bad.'

Something about this last gesture was so final. This gift meant that they really were leaving.

He was going to miss Sei. Nika couldn't help but feel close to the other man, even if they'd only ever talked a few times in this life. Sei was like a brother to him.

Nika listened carefully to Sei's words and stored them in his memory, not willing to even consider making a mistake.

"How did you decide? How did you know when I was ready?"

'You told me. It was easier because I knew you, but I question people about their past. Depending on how well and how much they can remember told me that they were... able to become maskless. The more that is remembered, the easier it will be.' Sei told him, wrapping the stone once more in the cloth and closing the box. Once closed, then void feeling left and the box seemed like a normal box. He still held it out for Nika to take.

'I can walk in your mind, so I somewhat cheated. The only one I worry of is Kasai, I beleive he is called. The fire element.' Sei said solomly. 'He has... amesia. He is blocked because of the crack in his mask. You might have to prepare him for what will come. His memories.'

Nika blinked at Sei and took the box from him. It was so difficult to imagine that everybody would want to confide their memories -things that were incredibly private- in him. Wasn't it possible, that somewhere along the road somebody wouldn't want to talk to him?

"Could you tell through my behavior, as well?" he asked.

"Would a trip to the ruins joggle his memory?" his tone wasn't very sympathetic and Nika shrugged, cradling the box in his hand. It had been so long since he'd seen Kasai. Actually, Nika hadn't seen the other boy since he was a child.

Unfortunitly not. It might be best to simply tell him what happened. Then let him come to gribs with that. Just understand he isn't the same person he once was. And if he wishes to forget forever.... Then I'll return to do that for him.' Sei said having no care in his voice about the matter. The only thing that would bug him is the whole having to return thing.

Then he thought about the other question for a moment. Was there a way...? 'Not that I have noticed. Simply talking, bringing up old things and asking what they can remember. They don't have to tell you details. Just that they know them.' He answered with a slight smirk.

'I have also set up my house to survive while I am away. If you go there and enter, please close the door when you leave.' He added lightly. Would he ever return to it? He didn't know... But at least all that hard work wouldn't be rotted away.

"I could do that," Nika sighed, unsure of how he felt towards Kasai. He didn't hate the boy for what had happened. Rather, he was angry at him for how badly he'd hurt Zahar and for trying to take advantage of Io.

"I'll definately try to do that," Nika nodded in Sei's direction, only slightly worried that somebody wouldn't be willing to talk with him whenever they remembered. The prize was far too great to deny.

He laughed at Sei's next words, "I will. Shall I wipe my shoes on the 'welcome' mat too?"

'Naaa, I'm going to leave that in the house. I don't know what the Rade would do to it.' Sei said jokingly, grinning at the other man and remembered why he was his bestfriend.

'I'll write from time to time, and I'll make Io promise to write as well.' He offered, his mental voice going soft again. He was going to miss his home and his old friend.. but there would be so much to see out there.

"Probably feed it to their young," he snorted and grinned at Sei, recalling the days the pair of them had spent together, so many years ago. Even Nika, the Time element, never failed to be stunned by how quickly time passes.

"I'll write too," he nodded and looked at the ground to hide the miserable look on his face, "Promise me you'll take care of her? And yourself, of course."

Sei gave a small snort, both to the joke and to Nika for his concern. There was a smile on his face as well. 'She's with Ice, She'll be fine.'

Then, unexpectantly, the other man lungged forward, wrapping an arm Nika's neck and shoulders and pulling him in for a noogy. It was pay back for all those noogies he was given! 'Don't go making that sad face.'

Nika hoped she would be. He was liable to fly to her aid at any sign of trouble. Io was fully capable of taking care of herself, but he couldn't help feeling the need to protect her and make her safe.

The sad look on his face instantly dissapeared and Nika burst into laughter while he struggled to free himself (and his hair) from Sei's grasp.

"When I gave you those noogies," he gasped inbetween bursts of laughter, "I hadn't counted on you growing bigger than me!"

'Pay back's a b***h, huh?' Sei's mental voice laughed the laugh of his father before he left his friend go. There was a bright grin on his face as well from it. 'You desereved it all.' He added with a smirk.

'One more thing, you wont have to worry about Lyra. She's no longer interested in this planet and has left as well.' Sei continued, then hesitated again. 'All the times she and I spoke, she asked of you and how you were.'

"Maybe I did," Nika chuckled and ran a hand through his hair, trying to tame the blonde locks, "But what did my hair ever do to you?"

Nika's eyebrows rose at the mention of his sister. She'd always been able to confuse and surprise him. This was no exception.

He remained silent, however, unsure of what Sei was getting at. Nika had always known that she'd wanted to ruin him and now, he figured that her leaving was for the best.

Sei smirked, knowing his thoughts and not feeling the least bit guilty from seeing them. 'Harsh, but earned. If she really did want you dead, she had plenty of times to try and kill you.' He said.

"Maybe," Nika shrugged, "But we never... You remember, don't you? We fought all of the time and we never got along."

There had been a time when he wouldn't have put it past her to try and murder him in his sleep. Now, he wasn't so sure.

'Not anymore.' Sei smirked and stood up easily before holding out his hand to his old friend. 'I should be going, however. You take care of things, and yourself, you hear? And tell Shi good bye for me the next time you see her.'

Nika ignored Sei's hand and enveloped the bigger man in a bear hug.

"I will," he said quietly.

Sei returned the friendly embrace before pulling back. 'Good.' He smiled, then turned away, with a small wave. Walking into his woods and vanishing.

One last time.
