Mopsicle My Hollow Mopsicle Gravechylde Mopsicle I feel that lyrics are a HUGE part of the genre, because the lyrics ARE a part of the music. However, scales and music theory > lyrics. So yes, it's valid for there to be polar opposites lyrically in the same genre regardless of how silly it seems. I for one frown upon the non-evil branches of metal. Seems like they're pulling my leg or something confused What? The first metal song that had religious themes was actually saying to follow god. :[ That makes mop sad because that's not...evil But yeah i understand your argument, but a portion of my own personal enjoyment of metal is the idea that it is tied to evil and depressing things in the world (rape, pillaging, ******** zombies, that who sha-bang.) Even though it went the opposite way, i feel that metal should be tied to hell, the underworld, etc, instead of light, justice, and life which is what god represents and all that jazz Why should it be tied? That doesn't make sense because how can things evolve to take on new themes and Ideas. If you ban light and happiness, then you move onto banning themes about nature of the love of nature, or moving onto banning lyrics anout anything else that someone is passionate about. Even viking life- without the pillaging and raping. You can prefer to have lyrics about darkness, but saying that Other themes takes away from metal is incorrect. Taking those away from metal, takes away from Metal as a whole. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not against the other metal "themes", I'm just stating that it's a personal enjoyment to look at metal and be able to feel evil-ish while doing so. I just personally see metal as something tied with the darker side of life but by no means am i bashing the other types. I would love to hear metal that is mound with nature. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Eluveitie is like that are they not...? Lyrics ARE a huge part of metal but I was trying to get at the fact that the actual note by note music is what defines it as a certain genre. Scales, tempo, and rhythm are definitely weighting (atleast in my mind) way more than lyrics. I'm not arguing that it's not your personal preference. I was just saying that trying to keep metal "evil" keeps it too structured, too formal.
