Dear journal:

Psy went out with Riycan the other day and under the guidance of "the flock" met a child named Brimstone who was apparently not all that interesting but could fly. Of course now Psy is rather annoyed once again that he can't fly. However, this has lead to a rather interesting development since neither Tiwaz nor Riycan can fly and so my trio of winged children seemed to have formed some sort of support group with Kushiel, Tiwaz's sprite like something as their mascot . I wonder what will happen when Tiwaz and Riycan learn to fly while Psy remains ground bound, hopefully he will be able to handle the dissapointment.

Dear Journal:

Psy has chickenpox, we discovered this today after he emerged from a bath and began babbleing about the spots he had. I'm hoping this is just a minor episode as I have no idea how one of his species will react to this disease and I have no one to ask. For now he appears to be normal, he has a fever and the spots but shows no abnormal symptoms.

I'm not sure how many of the children are infected or when they will begin to show signs but hopefully he is the only one, I'm not sure I can handle a house filled with sick kids and some like Andrea are too young to be able to fight it off well. For the time being I have Psy tucked onto the couch watching the star wars movies. He's uncomfortable but not complaining and I think he's enjoying the extra attention he's getting at the moment.

A day on the couch

Quote:

Psy lay on the couch, he was sick, he had annoying itchy red spots and he wasn't allowed to scratch at them. There was an upside to all of this though,he wasn't required to do much and he got pretty much anything he asked for right away. Also unlike the flock had said the other had not shunned them, aside from Tode they had all spent time wit him and had been nice about the spots that were called chicken pox.

Tiwaz had warned him she'd be mad if she caught them too but his mother had said they were probably all infected at this point they'd just take turns getting it so they might as well forget trying to avoid it. This made Psy smile, as the first to get it he'd have good advice on how to not itch for his siblings.

For himself Psy found that occupying his mind with games that required his complete concentration worked best. Thus he head a small gray controller in his hands and stared at the t.v screen directing his boat through the treachorous waters while trying to outspeed his competititors. It was fun listening to the sound and seeing all the different graphics that could appear. Psy was finding that between this racing game and and funny block game called Tetris that he was too busy to be itchy. Watching as his boat pulled across the finish line he third place he grinned, hopefully by the time his chicken pox were gone he'd be a much better game player.

Sitting on a chair in the living room Talon watched as a now recovered Psy lay on the floor with Andrea playing some sort of game with her plushies. It pleased her to see that Psy was slowly coming into his own, while he was still not overly social he was not a dazed and silent wondered of life anymore. In fact Talon noted that in everything he tended to do lately he focused soley on that one task giving it everything he had. Of course this lead to the amusing sight of a small child bent over a table faced screwed up in concentration as he struggled to keep his crayons within the lines.

Psy enjoying the game he and Andrea played was unaware of his gaurdians observations. "Wolf goes grrr, churr" he said attempting a growl while advancing the grey and tan plush towards his sister. Andrea merely gurgled a response and pushed a large turtle plushie at the wolf . Psy had the wolf jump over the turtle then turn around and bite it's tail, he knew real turtle shells were hard and so the wolf had to bite the soft spots.

As if she herself had been bitten Andrea moved away from her and frowned. Grabbing both plushies she turned away from him leaving Psy toyless. After all she was supposed to win not him.

Psy shook his head confused but shrugged it off, girls were silly sometimes and Andrea had always been weird. Leaving his sister to play a game she could always win he headed for the kitchen, there snacks there and Psy never turned down food. afterwards, he thoughy, he would go help Riycan in the garden where he could do no wrong.

Psy watched the small quad coloured disk in front of him intently, he had to focus on the pattern the lights made or he'd lose again. Simon was a game he both loved and hated, it was fun and challenging but it also cheated. It played a pattern of lights adding one more light each turn to the already established pattern. However, after a few turns the lights sped up and if you didn't remember how the established pattern had gonne you were in trouble, plus the longer you played the more the patterns repeated themselves and the easier it was to get lost.

Still is was an enjoyable game and Psy liked to see how much further he could get each time he played it. It also pleased him becuase it told him his memory was better than Tiwaz's and Andrea's as well as equal to Riycan's. Tode and his mother both had memories that the game could not beat. Except if they used the other version which made you remember 99 steps and then both of them sometimes got confused.

Red , red, blue, red, yellow, yellow, green blue. gre- fail. Psy sighed and turned the game off, he'd been playing so long he couldn't concentrate properly anymore if he'd failed so early on. A rumbling in his stomach let the young boy know that he'd played past lunch time and that it was time to head to kitchen. He stood, taking care to avoid tearing the couch with the sharp ends of his boney wings before he headed out of the room and towards the joy only peanutbutter and bannana could bring.

Psy was one unhappy child, here he was strapped to an uncomfortable chair, lights flashing everywhere and his mouth pried open while some stranger made comments he didn't understand to his mother. This dentist as he was called was not a nice person and Psy didn't care if his teeth all rotted and fell out he'd rather have that happen than have this old, funny smelling man poke about at his teeth and gums anymore. The flock agreed and gave their opinions on how to solve the problem.

Dear diary:

Psy bit the dentist and broke some rather expensive equipment. On the bright side as far as we know his teeth are fine. Gods only know how I'm going to get him checked up regularly though as my dentist has stated quite clearly that he will not work with him again

Psy sat hunched over the kitchen table, his dark blue eyes focused intently on the a peice of paper before him. Said paper was an entry peice in a colouring contest being held by the local newspaper. Psy had decided that he wanted to enter and was now colouring in the Halloween themed picture as carefully as he could.

Normally the flock would have helped giving him advice on which colours to pick and encouraging him. However they had been quiet today which was good since His mother said the rules stated he wasn't allowed any help. He thought she had meant help from his siblings but he knew the flock was against the rules as well.

" Going to colour and win, Churr," he said to himself his resolve strengthening. A black crayon was swiftly exchanged for as he went from colouring a brightly burning candle to doing the hair of a little witch girl.

As he forced himself to stay within the lines and yet colour strangly shaped objects his fingers gained more dexterity from the practise. So that even though he wasn't aware of it this simple act of entering a contest was helping Psy develop.

Once again Psy sat hunched over the kitchen table, his dark blue eyes focused intently on the piece of paper before him. This time however, the paper was a Christmas colouring contest entry held by the local supermarket. It was more complex than the last entry, there were more people and building and objects that needed just the right set of colours for it to be a winner.

He had failed to win last time but he was more prepared now, smarter. He’d colour until he got bored and then stop. No point in making himself colour when he didn’t want to, he’d only do a bad job then. Bad jobs didn’t win and Psy wanted to be a winner no matter what the competition ;even family games of crazy eights cards got him excited for a chance at success.

“Hey c’mere Psy we’re decorating the tree now.” Psy looked up from his task to see Tiwaz grinning at him from around the kitchen doorway. Her crimson eyes were alight and he could tell he had no choice but to comply, not that he minded horribly. Decorating the tree was something the whole family had been looking forward to himself included.

Nodding he left the table and followed his sister out to the living room where Riycan and Tode were fighting over where to hang ornaments and Andrea was prancing about them putting things wherever she pleased. Psy searched the decorations for something to add and settled on sugar cookies to be hung with ribbon. Setting one aside for himself Psy picked up the package and went to join his siblings.

Dear diary:

Sometimes I wonder what goes on in my children's heads, other times I just don't want to know. Psy's recent actions cause me to feel a mixture of both. On Tiwaz's birthday he gave her an ant farm, that's right an ant farm. I can't even begin to fathom why on Earth or Gaia he would do that.

Surprisingly enough Tiwaz was pleased with the gift and is currently content to watch her little black friends tunnel about in their tank. If she tries to take them out of it however it goes, I do not want bugs in my house.

But I digress for there is more Psy oddness I can't yet understand. Such as why he insisted upon folding all the presents torn wrapping paper into nice neat squares and why he he arranged the squares in the random pattern around himself that he did. I think perhaps a visit to a shrink would be a good idea.

I always knew Psy had issues but when he was younger I treated him more as a person to be studied, having him analyised and possibly fixed before I myself could diagnose him was simply unthinkable. In hindsight it was a horribly cruel thing to do to a child.

Now however it is time, I cannot say I care for my child and still sit by and watch his behaviour without at least having an expert attempt t o understand him. If all is well and he is just a stange child then fine, but if he needs help and counciling it is best to get it to him now when he can still be changed.

Psy lay on the floor, he hummed softly to himself as he carved his name into the frame of his bed. It was a practiced motion, he'd been branding things with his name a lot lately. Carving out a territory within the house. He didn't mind sharing most of the time but lately he'd been having the urge to claim some things as his own.

Much time had passed since the shard born child had first entered this home and he had grown greatly. In Physical stature he remained the same but his intellect , co ordination and speaking skills had grown considerably. Some of it was due as always to the passage of time. Some was from sibling tutoring but most was due to the woman he saw saw twice weekly and spoke to about his life.

She was an odd one, quiet with a tendency to scribble and then talk for a few minutes before repeating the cycle. She helped Psy understand things that he alone could not wrap his mind around. She treated the flock with respect and never seemed to be angry or corrective.

Most importantly she encouraged his competitiveness so long as it was " goal oriented" as she put it. The woman focused on Psy setting goals that were not just about winning but achieving something tangible even if he lost. She encouraged him to aim for his personal best and ignore his competitors whomever they maybe.

For the time being they were the computer. Psy played games often on it, memory games, matching games and ones that tested his typing skills or at least his speed skills. Someday if he ever manged to achieve better social skills he might progress to human competitors.

Slowly and carefully Psy's fingers hovered over the keyboard as he typed out his thoughts. The shard born child was mentally advancing slowly but surely and looking back at his few old journal entires even he could see the big difference.

Journal,
01/07/07

I have very good news, soon I'm going to be throwing out much of my old things and getting new ones. I'm allowed to have my room redecorated and get new furniture as I am outgrowing both. My therapy lady says that this will also help me move towards being mentally healthy.

As long as the flock and I can have our new territory just was we want it I know we will be happy.

27/12/07

A new year approaches and I can only wonder what it will hold. This year has been hectic to say the least and yest it has been the best year I have experienced since I came to Gaia. For once everything seems to be coming together.

The loss of Tode to the family was rough but part of me believes that he will return as he promised to. Still I wish I could have stopped him. The family still clearly misses him greatly. Psy stops whenever he passes his old room. Tiwaz and Andrea still talk about the past and Riycan grumbles begrudgingly that he misses him from time to time.

Still , all has not been bad. Tiwaz has grown up a bit, she's physically bigger and matured somewhat. Whatever happened when she was gone seemed to have knocked some humility into her. She still won't talk about it but at least she's back and somewhat adapting to how things are now.

Riycan seems stagnant, he doesn't seem to want to do much lately and I'm not sure why. I need to get him back to the shop and see if being with his own kind will help any.

Andrea has come more into her own, friendlier withus and creating a definite sense of self. She still seems to love her plushies more than people but at the same time she's not completely shutting herself off.

Psy, ahh Psy my first and most confusing. He's been up and down throughout the year though Therapy has helped. The biggest breakthrough was after he redesigned his room. Letting his space be fully decided upon by him seems to have made him completely happy. he spends a lot of time in his room, but it's where he's most happy and he's not prone to keeping others out either.

Psy's also grown but not in the same ways, his mind is getting sharper and I can see him grasping concepts he never could have a year ago. he enjoys being competitive, usually against the computer but he and Andrea have lately been playing checkers and other board games. It gets the competitiveness out of both their systems and it's nice to see them enjoying something together that takes more effort than just watching t.v.

I'm not sure what will happen in the year to come but I will certainly hope it is as good as this year past.
