Elaine heard the clock strike, and the walls she'd put up to protect her mind from the thoughts of the others - she couldn't possibly keep track if most of the thoughts going through her head weren't hers at all - fell away. She was momentarily aware that someone had been trying to talk to her, but before she could reply, a different voice echoed painfully through her mind.
Between the screams that accompanied it, she could make out something, frequently drowned out by the pained shrieks.
"YOU! ... you- ..." The screams increased in volume and Elaine fell to the floor, moaning and clutching at her head.
The voice slowly grew quieter, but before they disappeared - for who knew how long - she heard one last word.
"...midnight..."
She staggered out of the bookshelves (fortunately in the opposite direction from Chastity) and looked at the windows from which light had been removed.
Dazed and disoriented, barely able to think past the strong ache in her head, she managed only a quiet, breathless question -
"Hey, who turned out the lights?"
- before she fell to the floor in a dead faint.
((OH YES. I DID.))

(( OH NO YOU DI'INT! ))
In the face of the clock's onslaught, even before she had registered, or, indeed, entirely understood the reality of Roderick's disappearance from the doorway, Carlotta visibly flinched with each strike, as though struck herself. She felt her awareness of the world around her distort, that violet glow filling her vision until she felt like she breathed and drank and cried the colour, as though it completely controlled her somehow through a twisting of fate and destiny. The feeling faded quickly, though the discomfort in Carlotta's mind and heart did not so feel inclined to relieve her of its presence. But she steadied herself, as she was so accustomed to doing, and she breathed calmly and looked around to her companions without any outside semblance of disorder.
Unfortunately, what she saw was disorder. Her vision did not connect with her mind for a moment, not until the pained sounds of Elaine broke through her dazed state and cleared her mind to what her eyes had long registered. And given the vulnerable twist of her heart and mind that moment, it was a most unfortunate revelation for the lady to behold, as Carlotta stared around her at the changes she (for yes, she could deny it not that it was, indeed, she that must have caused it) wrought in her new acquaintances.
It was not more than a simple connection of related ideas, but it affected Carla most dramatically. Simply unable to stand this awful guilt facing her, and not, of course, registering the dangers that might or might not lie outside that room, Carlotta was controlled for a rare moment by instinct alone, and it was this which guided her scarlet-slippered feet to flee. It was a straight path before her, standing as she was before the lone bookcase at the end of the room, and one she leapt into with no hesitation, for her self-control was no longer just wavering, but it was entirely broken.

Shaw felt the clock's ringing resonate through his body each time, sending a sharp pain throughout him. He almost dropped the candle he was holding by the last "DONG", but thankfully he managed to pull himself together. "What on earth-?!" He gasped, looking around at the others. He noticed Carla flee from the library, and when he heard the beastly roar from the library he knew what had happened.
"Chastity's transformed again."
His face was pale at the thought, and he looked around for some place he could hide. The beastly door was obviously not the place for anyone to hide for two minutes while the beast went on a rampage, so he wondered if it would be safer to run to the door with the apple doorknob and hide in there. Or would Chastity discover it?
Even the shadows were giggling at the unearthly roar that still echoed through the hall...

The rings ended after a long reign of reverberation. But the terror was far from over.
Alexander moved quickly to Shaw's side, "Gideon, there's something down there," he pointed to where the west end of the hall turned northward, beyond view, "And it's done something to lock all of the doors." The roar from the library froze his words, and he was willing to wait only moments for the composer's answer. "There will be nowhere to hide until we fix it," he finished in a rushed whisper.
((That'll happen sometimes Meta, as you can see from all our posts. The pattern is: The shorter the posts, the more frequent you'll need to write them. It correlates with the "urgency" of the events. Also, continue discussing in the behind the scenes thread everyone so Allocen can figure out what she's doing.))

((Have fun with this little gem. I hope everyone has a very good plan about how to stop me and the fire. twisted ))
There was hardly any time between the snatching of Roderick and the piercing sound that ripped through Chastity’s skull. She faintly remembered people rushing from the room after that man, but the details fell away as something unnerving washed over her body. Suddenly, her body was racked with pain once more and with every ring of that hellish bell it grew in power. The beast was retuning for another bout of terror and destruction, and Chastity had no power to stop it.
With the third ring of the clock, chastity fell to the ground, tossing the candle, with the fiery light still lit, behind her, skidding across the floor only to stop, resting against a bookshelf. Within moments the bookshelf was ablaze, flames crackling and spreading quickly. There was a faint sizzle as Chastity’s blood hit the inferno signaling the return of the beast…
The Beast, sniffed the air. Even thought the air was filling with smoke, the light sent of perfume reached it’s nose. Fallowing the sent, the Beast cam upon the lady who belongs to the perfume, laying on the floor giving herself up to the beasts destructive pleasures. Licking It’s lips, or what would have been it’s lips, it approached her nearly, or soon to be, lifeless body. That was until something darted past the Beast, it’s movement exciting the Beast’s rage. Turning to see that that something run out the door, the beast gave up on the perfumed lady, and letting out a howl that only could have belonged to terror himself, rushed out the door.
The hunt was on.

Scarcely had the fleeing lady even reached the doors which led to the Library, than had that fearful Beast that was formerly her companion let out a fearful sound that chilled Carla's blood and thrust upon her a great, desperate sense of urgency. There was no thought of social propriety in her head now, nothing but that deepest instinct of self-preservation which led to the lady kicking off her high-heeled slippers before she had even left the library, and looking back for a heart-stopping moment to see that nightmare pursuing her. And instinct, which now ruled over even her newly acquired powers, thrust itself into the first large and heavy object which the woman sighted -- that lone bookshelf at the end of the library, which she saw behind the beast. Her mind did not consciously recognise her choice, but something within her pulled that bookshelf, and that within it, to slide towards the beast with alarming alacrity.
Carlotta did not exactly register this, though I am sure that somewhere she was aware of its happening, and (though all directions were the same to her in that darkness -- of shadows and of fear) fled in the first direction she turned to upon leaving the library.
(( Woot, remembered Carla's power XD Epic tiem!
Also, I'm going to say she's running up the hallway, not down: towards the dead end. ))

Rose delicately grasped Roderick's arm, offering him a charming smile which he was totally unable to see. "There is some commotion in the library---" She began, then her voice trailed off in a soft gasp as the hallway began to spin around her.
Her body sagged against the blind nobleman, and she was grateful for his arm through hers. "I'm feeling... a bit unwell." She murmured, clinging to him against the alarming sway of the floor. Large brown eyes blinked several times, clearing the woozy haze from her vision just in time to see Carla dash past, barefooted and terrified.
The bloodcurdling cry of the beast informed Roselani of the events even before Shaw's deceptively calm words reached her ears. "Roderick, can you perceive a place to hide?" She asked, her voice weak and frightened. "I fear I have become quite useless just now."

Elaine awoke with no idea where she was. Surely it hadn't been so hot in the library before? She pushed herself upright, and realised the source of the heat was a fire.
In the library.
A fire in the library.
Elaine whispered a curse. Who would burn books? She was about to demand an explanation when she heard the roar of the Beast, and finally it occurred to her that, although she was always slightly slower after waking up, it was a new depth of stupidity that was making her stand still in a burning library with a monster that wanted to tear her to pieces.
She set off in the direction she thought the exit lay in, trying to steer clear of the smoke and flames all around her. Then she heard once more the terrible cry of the Beast.
Was Chastity still inside the library? Elaine couldn't let her die here - burning was a horrible way to go
oh yes burning is a horrible way to go
and besides, Chastity, even in Beast-form, was still one of the only other people trapped in the strange castle. If Elaine went around letting people die all the time, soon she'd be the only one left in the castle.
And she couldn't have that, now could she?
She reached out to the Beast's mind, giving a mental shout of warning. Fire! Leave the library! She reeled with the effort of contacting the Beast, and fell against a bookshelf. The fire was catching up to her, nearly surrounding her now
burning is a horrible way to go
and she had to make it to the exit before she was burned alive. She knew she'd suffocate before she burned - even now it was getting harder for her to breathe - but she didn't want to be a charred corpse for quite some time, if ever.
She stumbled out of the burning library and ran directly into Rose and Roderick.
((I RETURNETH
WITH ALLITERATION
also it was really hard to type 'she was about to demand an explanation' without saying 'THE LADY ELAINE REDWOOD DEMANDS AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS BULLSHIT'. Very hard indeed.))

Gideon acted quickly, without even time for his brain to catch up. He dashed toward the eastern part of the hall, intent on finding out what was going on so that he could prevent his death from fire, the first nasty creatures - the things that had kidnapped and returned Roderick - or the other nasty creature - Chastity, in beast form. Perhaps if they could dodge her long enough, when Chastity came to her senses they could use her as their main weapon to fight the creatures and help in any other way the could - perhaps Gideon could stab them with a candle or something. But what was most important, in his mind, was to stop the fire. After all, the beasts were probably fire-resistant or something. But to stop the fire, he needed water, or a large vibration of sound waves to stop the fire - but neither were readily available.
He passed Rose and Roderick shortly and hit a turn in the hall, glancing down the eastern hallway quickly to see the tailend of Carlotta's dress fleeing from the candlelight. He pressed his body against the wall, and looked over at the door to his left, wondering if perhaps IT would open. Suddenly, he realized - the door he was standing next to had no doorknob. Shaw shouted this information to Alex, sure that the adviser had a clever plan to fix this mess. "Alex, this door is missing a doorknob! It was there when we last saw it! I think it caused the doors to lock! We need to find the doorknob to fix this mess!"
Then, he quickly turned to Rose and Roderick. "We all need to stick together - perhaps we should go after Carlotta. Then we need to find Lady Redwoo-" He suddenly turned around and shouted to Alex, "Do you know where Elaine is? She's the only one missing!"
Suddenly, Lady Redwood ran into Rose and Roderick. Thankful that she wasn't hurt, he helped her up again, but then wondered - where exactly was Chastity?

EDITED SLIGHTLY TO MAKE MORE SENSE KTNKZBAI
((whooo! got a...enchanted trunk. L FOR LAME. Now watch as I flail around and pretend I know what I'm doing))
"Doorknob, Doorknob....Anyone have a giant magnet?" He shouted back, irregardless of the irrationality.
All he wanted to do right now was go to his room, and go to bed, and sleep, and wake up and all of this chaos to be a dream.
But when he reopened his eyes, there was fire, and a missing Chastity, who was probably ready to sink her teeth in whomever she saw next, and, still, no doorknob.
But if there was no doorknob, there was still that empty socket, leading to the inner workings of the locks...
"I daresay, any of you happen to have a long hairpin or something like that?"

((( AHHAHAHAHA!!!! rofl Cut! Cut!!!!
Okay, okay... I think I need to do some integration training for you Wingless. This is sometime in the 1600's we imagine, possibly earlier. If Alexander knows what the term 'detector' is, then it proves that alien technologies were given to humanity at a very early time in history. Second, the Castle Prospero IS Alexander's home. His knowledge of the place in its usual form will be of no use to you guys later. Plus it has also been the home of everyone else here for ALMOST seven month, hehehe... *laughs to herself remembering the analyzation of the original story we all did*
And just to help you out here, look at map F2 on the front page of this RP. You (Alexander) are standing in front of Door 6 in the Hallway. This is the door from which the doorknob was taken. The creatures dragged it off to the west, then around the corner and north further down the hall towards doors 1 and 2. Have Alex chase after them in your post, then I can post for what happens. There's a really huge recap in the Behind the Scenes on the last page that you should look at.
Btw, you're hairpin idea is something the characters would likely think of, but it's not going to work, and you're all go to die of choking from copious amounts of smoke if you don't hurry with a plan that will work.
If anyone has any other questions, please ask them in the behind the scenes. I think I answered Tango's question in this (the library doorknob is fine, you guys want the D6 knob). I figured I should write all of this in here to make sure everyone gets it.)))

The heft of the bookshelf hit the beast will all the force of a falling piano. The impact left the beast without her senses sending the room spinning in the beast eyes, while pinning it for moments against the wall across from the door to the library. It screeched it's disoriented snarls signaling the few moments that quick use of power bought, allowing the lady Elaine to join her fellows.

Terrified by the beast's blood-curdling screams, Carla nearly screamed herself - except that, of course, even she had enough common sense to realise that telling a murderous creature your exact location by screaming loudly was not a good idea. Her stockinged feet were slippery on the floor of the castle, and the moment of relief granted by the satisfying thud of the bookshelf hitting the beast was, unfortunately, only brief. Especially when the Lady Carlotta Dalton-Braskett realised (after a sharp and painful discovery of the stone wall) that she had run herself into a dead end.
It was rather difficult for her to then keep in mind the voice of reason which said that screaming (while, of course, the socially acceptable way for a lady under extreme stress to rid herself of some of these feelings and make them universally known) was not going to be helpful, but she managed to restrain herself to some choked-back sobs before pushing valiantly away from the wall and sprinting back the way she came, right in the direction of (but hopefully to run right past and away from) the maws of the fearsome beast.

((I'm taking over Alexander for a while during his new player's going through training xd . I'm reseting to before the 'hairpin' comment though, just for the sake of time... so no one needs to respond to that))
Alexander cast his gaze in the direction of the western hall , which through the slowly gathering smoke, there was still some light filtering through. The faint scraping sounds had come from that hall as well, and without a moment more to lose, the adviser darted away from the fire and chaos. Soon he came close enough that he could easily see the end of the hall, and something odd at the bottom of the last door brought his feet to a halt. A shining object was being knocked against the slight threshold gap below the door, surrounded by a handful of small figures he couldn't quite make out.... But as he came closer, the little creatures scrambled, hissed, and slipped under the door jam, abandoning their stolen doorknob.
Cautiously, but still in somewhat of a hurry, Alexander collected the petal-designed knob, and briefly considered the door the creatures were attempting to get it through before turning back down the dark hall toward the terrified sounds...
