Kavu was unhappy. No one had fallen for his little plan. And he had thought it was such a clever one, too! Darn those other cubs… they were on to him. If they were even still playing. Maybe they had both gone off and left him alone? Or maybe something else had happened that had left them both hurt and in need of help!
He jumped to his feet, instantly starting to panic. “Okay!” he called, “I give up! I lose the game! You guys can come out now!”
Grunting, Jeraha opened his eyes, looking over at his impossibly loud son. What was the boy shouting about? Normally Kavu was very mindful of what his father wanted. To wake him up now, when he had obviously been wanting sleep, was unacceptable. He was supposed to be the good son.
Watching, he said nothing, noting that two of his boys were suspiciously missing. He could probably find them easily enough.
But he wanted to find out what was going on first.

By that point, Jani had managed to get himself completely involved in a "conversation" with a nice and friendly group of rocks nearby - having gotten up and padded even farther away so he could hear them better.
One ear flicked back at Kavu's shouting, but ... it was rude to leave in the middle of talking to someone! He knew that much.
So he ignored the yelling for the moment, grinning as he detailed the events of the last few days to his new friends.

Doto frowned. His game was not going as he had planned. He wanted them to be crying and sad, lost for hours. Impatient, on top of being annoyed, he flicked his tail and came down from his perch on the rock. Maybe he would go see what they were doing. Of course, that ran the risk of one of them following him back.
Sighing, he stopped when he heard his father moving. Turning, he narrowed his eyes at the large male lion, looking every bit as suspicious as he warranted. Flicking his tail again, he sniffed at the ground leisurely and looked around, feigning boredom. Red eyes moving back to his dad, he nodded a hello, then made off down from the den.
"Jerk," he mumbled to himself as he padded away.

It didn’t take long, Jeraha found, for Kavu to come crying to him for help. The moment he had seen that his father was awake he was there to ask for assistance. Silly boy. How was he ever going to be ready for the world when he couldn’t do anything for himself?
His son was ranting on and on about something, but the child was talking so damn fast that for the life of him Jeraha could not understand anything he was being told. Something about a game and him having lost the others.
“Alright, shh,” he growled, stretching his front paws, “I’ll find them. Just try not to panic, will you? I’ll find the others. Just go back to the den and try not to get into any further trouble.” He didn’t care that he had obviously made his son upset, moving away to sniff out the others.
Wasn’t long before he found Doto.
“I suppose you had something to do with this?” he asked, watching the boy turn to leave. Moving, he placed a paw on the other’s small tail, pinning it against the ground and holding the child in place. “Where’s your brother?” he demanded.

Eventually, Jani finished his conversation with the rocks and looked up - having noticed that the yelling had stopped now. Which meant... since he couldn't hear them anymore... that he had no idea where the rest of the family was.
Uh oh.
The little lion bit his lip slightly and fought back a sniffle. It wasn't the end of the world! He could find his way back, it would be fine!
Oh! Why hadn't he thought of that already? He could ask the grass! Surely it would remember the way he had come just a few minutes ago, even though he hadn't seen...
"Hey, psst..." he whispered to the long, waving stalks - swaying back and forth a little just like they did. "Do you remember how I got here...?"

Doto frowned up at his father, shaking his head and shrugging his big shoulders. He hated that his tail was often used against him, and that his small size, comparatively, prevented him from doing anything about it. Looking up at his dad, he tilted his head and let his red eyes look as innocent as they could. Which, as it turned out, wasn't very innocent at all.
"Something to do with what?" he said, feigning confusion. He pretended he hadn't noticed Kavu's state. He then, of course, saw his brother heading back to the den and looking so sad, and looked surprised and concerned. "What's going on?"
He was glad this was going so well, but he knew Jeraha was going to mess everything up. He sighed, wondering how long it would take for him to find their lost brother, and if Jani, as weird as he was, would even notice the lapse of time. Doto shrugged his shoulders again.
"I don't know where he is."

Jeraha didn’t need the boy to tell him where Jani was, as he was perfectly capable of finding him on his own. He had just wanted to provide the trouble making child a good chance to explain himself. But clearly he had been wasting his time. Doto was not the kind of boy who cared about getting in trouble. Jeraha had always thought the rebellious faze came later in life, but with this one he had come out of his mother hating the world.
Or so it seemed.
Taking his paw from the boy’s tail, he instead put in on his face, pushing it towards the ground for a moment while he looked around for his lost son. The strange boy was probably talking to grass somewhere nearby. Distance was so much greater in the mind of a child, even one like Doto.
“I hope you remember how your lunch tasted,” he told the boy casually as he scanned the area, “because you’re not getting dinner. Now get back to the den.” He stood, freeing the cub and turning to go retrieve the lost one. Jani’s scent wasn’t lost to the wind, giving him a clear trail right to the boy.
Before long, he was standing over the strange child, disapproving frown on his features. “Are you ready to come home?” he asked the boy.

He squeaked slightly and stumbled backwards before realizing what and who it was.
"Oh, dad!" he exclaimed, bounding up to quickly rub against the larger male's forelegs.

Being squished was not one of the Doto's favorite activities, but there was very little he could do to prevent or free himself from his father's large paws. He wiggled but only for a short moment, giving up once he realized it was useless and waiting for his dad to let him back up.
Doto scowled at his father as he was sent to the den without supper, turning sharply and wandering away with his fur bristled. He was hungry, more so now that he was aware that he would not be getting any food. But it was worth it, he felt.
After all, he had some fun.
Bored now, not interested in witnessing the return of his sibling, he moved into the den and found his little corner, a secluded spot that he could keep to himself. Curling up and plopping himself down, he grinned into his paws and shut his eyes.

Jeraha looked down at the boy, expression neutral while the tiny creature cuddled against his legs. It was still going to take some getting used to- this whole “being a father” thing he had going on. He frowned thoughtfully, keeping his eyes on the boy just in case something else happened and he got lost again.
It was possible. Anything was possible with this one.
Shaking his head at the comment about the talking grass, Jeraha lowered his head, nudging the boy in the right direction back to the den. “Come along,” he said flatly, “Doto played a joke on you to get you lost. Now he’s not getting dinner. So don’t share with him, alright?” He started to move, leading the cub back home to their den. Then he would slip out to hunt.
Then watch Doto brood about not getting anything to eat. So maybe having cubs wasn’t a complete chore- it did have its entertaining moments.
