:Suri watched, deep in thought, as Captain Nagi created the shield and then let it go so suddenly. It was odd of him not to hold his concentration when he was demonstrating something, and odder yet that he should let out such a sigh after attempting a joke.

"Is something troubling your mind, Captain?" Suri asked politely.

She was not eager to start kidou training if something was going to happen to Captain Nagi in the process. It was more important to her that the squad members were well then to strengthen herself, for what good would strength do if there was no one to help with it?:

(( Sorry if I'm interpreting that last sigh wrong. And yesh!! New members blaugh Are you going to welcome them, or should I? twisted Just kidding =P ))

((My bad there for not being more descriptive on that... it was more of a relief sigh in this case. I will most likely not be online tomorrow or the day after. The division will be in your hands during that time. I'm counting on you! ^^))

Nagi was confused for a moment, wondering what Suri had meant. When he realized what it was, he smiled and shrugged.

"I'm fine." he said in an apologetic way. "I let that kido go rather quickly didn't I? I didn't think there was much of a point to holding onto it for very long. It is also very easy to perform so someone of your ability will have no problem at all. I advise that you use both hands though."

As he said this, he was flicking his right hand a bit in an attempt to relieve the tingle. Pain was easy to ignore, but the pin-pricking feeling was just irritating. This usually happened while trying out a new kido but didn't normally last very long.

:Suri gave a slight smile, both of relief and embarrassment. She had not meant to sound so worried. If anything would happen, Captains were in better positions to take care of themselves than she was.

Clearing her mind of any worries, Suri held out both of hands, palm forward. She thought of the circular shield Captain Nagi had just created, and imagined shaping her reiatsu like that, solidifying the shield so that it could block from physical attacks.

"Captain Nagi, I think you need to find stones," Suri commented before concentrating her reiatsu in her hands, knowing that it had probably slipped Captain Nagi's thoughts since he could be absent-minded.

Turning that thought aside, Suri knew it would be more important that she could construct a proper shield first before any rocks hit her. Forcing her reiatsu to flow to her open palms, Suri's eyes turned a rich amber color and her hands crackled slightly with a swirl of autumnal flavors. It shocked her enough that she dropped her reiatsu, feeling it flowing around inside her, looking for a way out.

"Sorry," Suri gasped a bit, realizing how foolish it was to retain such reiatsu. "I did not expect my reiatsu to be such...warm colors. Oddly I do not remember having any color in my reiatsu when I created my zanpaku~to or an orb."

She shook her head apologetically. Perhaps she was just getting old and forgetful, but she could have sworn that her reiatsu had been a transparent color before, much like crystal.

Concentrating again so that she would not end up like last time, Suri held her palms forward, forcing all the active reiatus back to her hands, her eyes warming up back again.

Picturing the shield in her head, large enough to protect her body, Suri called out, "Bakudo number thirty-nine, enkosen!"

Warm reiatsu flowed out, starting as a small dot and slowly expanding into a wide, flat disc that was roughly six feet in diameter. It wavered at times though, and Suri had to concentrate, gritting her teeth and holding onto her reiatsu, so the shield would not disappear. Though she did not think it bad for her first try, a well aimed kidou with enough strength could probably shatter the shield. She would need to practice this one if it was going to be effective against anyone above fifth seat. Holding onto the shield, Suri chanced a glance around, to see whether or not Captain Nagi would being pelting the rocks any time soon.:

(( Do I need crew status to edit any posts? And don't be surprised about how Captain Nagi's office turns out in two days twisted just kidding =P Hopefully I do good ^^ And...I can't train people in kidous 31 and 33 (the only ones between 10 and 35) since I don't know those myself... crying fail... ))

Nagi grinned as he begun gazing around at the ground for some good sized rocks. He didn't want them too big in case something went wrong. He didn't want Suri to spend her first week as his Lieutenant stuck in fourth division. Having to explain the situation to Onalim would have been sort of interesting too. As the amusing thoughts kept scrolling through his mind, Nagi located and retrieved a few stones. Just as he was bending back up, he noticed a funny colored light emitting from Suri. Now curious, he stared for a moment as she explained to him of how odd she found it as well. Nagi nodded slightly for he had seen something like this before.

"Well..." he said as he stepped back a short distance so that he and Suri weren't so close together. He had one of the rocks in his left hand, tossing it up and down slightly like a devious pitcher waiting on his mound. "Don't be surprised if you start discovering new things about yourself. Now that your skills and abilities are increasing, your body and spirit energy will start doing a lot of things that you won't understand at first."

With that, he gave the stone a quick side-arm toss. The projectile excelled quickly through the air but before it could hit Suri's kido, Nagi through another and another until his ammo was depleted. He was pretty sure that her barrier was plenty strong enough to withstand them so he wasn't going to bother with taking his time. He also wanted to see if Suri kept her cool with all of these rocks flying at her at the same time. Nagi pretty was sure that she would so he did not bother to ready himself for disappointment.

((I will let you decide if your barrier will hold up. If so, we'll move on to the next phase. ^^))

:A bit distracted with Captain Nagi's comment about finding out new things about herself, Suri winced a bit when she felt the first rock hitting her shield. It was as if her reiatsu had been a solid bone in her body and had just jolted harshly from a collision. However, the shield remained fairly intact.

As the other rocks come flying at devilishly fast paces, Suri's eyes widened a bit. Her reiatsu, even though it had gained color, was not dark. This allowed her to see the field in tints of yellow-orange-browns, which did did not make the rocks seem any friendlier or slower. Not to be deterred, Suri kept her shield firmly up, channeling just as much reiatsu into it as she thought would be required to keep each rock away. By the time the last rock collided with the shield, it had withstood so much battering that the rock managed to get stuck in it, a little corner sticking through while the shield had condensed itself around the rock.

"That does not seem like the best sign," Suri muttered quietly to herself, letting the shield drop so that she did not drain her reiatsu.

The rock fell onto the pile with a heavy clatter and Suri stepped forward a bit. She bent over and whisked up the water bottle, slowly draining the content.

"Do you want me to try the shield with a kidou or zanpaku~to attack or are we going to take down the hakudos first?" Suri questioned as she finished the water, capping it again and replacing on the ground in an obvious spot so that she would not forget it later.:

(( I think this is the first time I've ever learned two kidous without some form of interruption... >> haha ))
PostPosted: Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:32 pm

((I know... isn't it wonderful! ))

Nagi grinned as he watched Suri perform something he did all too often. That water she nabbed was G-O-N-E! Letting out a sigh of relief, Nagi relaxed a bit and folded his arms across his chest, placing one sleeve inside the other like an old wise-man. His eyes were closed in content.

"I think you did great for your first time." he said, not appearing to pay her self-evaluation any mind. "Before we go firing kidos at it, I want you to rest up a bit. We will move onto something a bit different after you rest up and restore your energy. By the end of this training, you will be tested on everything you've learned today. This means you have to use and apply each of these kidos in a combat situation. It might be hard, but I believe that you can do it."

Nagi was true on his words. He felt that if Suri was to be his lieutenant, she had to be able to withstand just about anything he could throw at her. He knew right off the bat that she was mentally level-headed and prepared. However, he had not seen her reaction on a battle field as of yet. He had to make sure that she was able to perform and keep her cool just as well under pressure. Also, he was not doubting anything he had said earlier about her abilities climaxing during the training. He was , hoping that she wouldn't let the slight changes in her riatsu level effect her in a negative way. Surly she'd figure it out and utilize it to her advantage. He wasn't going to tell her for he wanted her to learn on her own. Nagi had all the faith in the world in her, for someday this girl was to be his successor.

:Heeding the warning undercurrent in Captain Nagi's suggestion, Suri laid down in the shade of a tall tree, closing her eyes slightly from the sunlight glaring through the different levels of leaves. Her bun pillowed her head surprisingly well, but she had remembered to toss her braid to the side, hinting at the dangerous weapon that it concealed. For a long while she was quiet, fiddling with the pendant on the end of her hilt, rubbing her thumb over the seal unconciously. Her mind seemed to drift to many different thoughts, although she was so deep in concentration that they could not have been recent or happy.

"Captain," Suri said quietly after a time. Her eyes remained half-lidded, but she had no doubt that Captain Nagi had heard her and was paying attention. "I went to Captain Tagg and Captain Bull's wedding. Gento the Arrancar showed up. He tried to kill Captain Tagg. And he tried to kill me. He sensed my fear."

She rolled over on her side, starting to play with a random dandelion that had been sprouting in the sunlight at the edge of the shade. Her fingers trembled slightly, but whether from exhaustion or fear she could not tell. There was no reason for her to be afraid at the moment, but remembering her past and remembering the way Gento had aimed the cero at point-blank range at her neck made her shiver. Unsure of how to continue, Suri kept quiet, focusing on her breathing for a bit.

"My past...is not pleasant," she started up again after she had fiddled with the dandelion enough that it looked like it wanted to whither. "The short version is that I grew up in a rural part of China. I was far enough from the city that I had no education, but my town was a big enough part of the Silk Road that there was lots of trade passing through. This was all about 1,700 years ago. It was a period of turmoil for China, the Han dynasty had just fallen.

When I was about fifteen, some traders came through. There had been a drought that year, and bandits had attacked. Without an emperor the roads were not safe, especially for the rural provinces. My father was on hard times since he was a farmer. His crops had failed and no one was willing to buy what little he produced since they never came by. He secretly sold me to the traders. They brought me to the East, by the coast, and I was bartered off to Japan.

A lord took me in. He tried to gift me, to win me over. He used to bring bouquets of roses every night. I refused all of it. To this day I still cannot tolerate the scent or sight of roses very well. One night he got impatient. He beat me down and forced himself on me. After that he never had a second thought about it. I ended up a mistress in his household. Probably worse. Even his rich guests allowed themselves the pleasure. Captain Tagg's issue with her past husband is probably similar. I heard he beat her to death.

I apologize for my incompetence and my inability to protect Captain Tagg at her wedding. I guess, as much as I try to fight it, there is still fear in me. If you feel that this makes me unable to fulfill the requirements of my position, I will give up my spot as a lieutenant."

Suri grew quiet. It had been a long tale, and she was not accustomed to saying so much, especially about herself. However, she felt that Captain Nagi had a right to know, especially if he thought she would be unable to do what was needed of a Vice-Captain. Fiddling with the pendant on her hilt, Suri awaited Captain Nagi's judgement, closing her eyes to rest and prepare herself for the worst.:
PostPosted: Wed Sep 03, 2008 9:16 pm

His attention at its full, Nagi seated himself against the trunk of the tree as well. Allowing the shade to protect him from the sun's harmful rays, he removed his tinted glasses from his face and sat them gently on his knee. As Suri expected of him, Nagi listened intently to every word she spoke. Not only that, but he was also paying attention to the way she tensely fidgeted with the objects around her. All these words and motions began to stir a lot of feelings with himself as well. His heart felt somewhat crushed as each beat seemed to punch him in the chest. He knew this was the sensation of fear and absolute anger at its worst. Though Nagi disliked the feeling, he was somewhat glad for this ability of his at times. To feel the pain of those around him was more than he could have ever wished for.

As he absorbed the story, he tried his best to imagine everything as if he were in Suri's shoes. Since he did not have a real memory of his own, he didn't have any trouble at all with creating new pictures in his mind. There were many things he could see, hear and feel as if her story were some kind of movie playing in his head. It may have not been accurate, he still got the full sensation of the horrifying experience.

Now that the story was at its end and his mind fell into silent darkness once more, Nagi stared off into the field for a while, searching for the right things to say. Everything made sense to him now but there were still a few things that he did not fully understand. He did not speak for quite a few moments. Only the sound of the leaves and grass swaying in the breeze could be heard. The sounds of nature where somewhat inspirational to him as he continued to wonder and think.

There was so much he'd give to remember his past yet he was also glad that he did not know, simply because he was not prepared for it. He felt sympathy for those like Suri, who had no choice but to let those memories haunt them. Despite this, he had to look at the brighter side of things at all costs for if he didn't, then he'd be turning against everything he believed in. It helped knowing the hardship of having so much responsibility thrust upon his shoulders when he was least expecting it. Being only a mere seventh seat and a year's worth of experience landed him a lieutenant's position. No more than a few months after, he was captain due to the fact that his former commander when insane. Even now, he still believed that it was too early- he was much too young, too clumsy, and too distracted. He wasn't at all ready for what had occurred yet he continued to always look on the brighter side of things despite his own personal doubts. It was because of that hardship that he was strong enough to become the leader that he was. He wasn't about to tell Suri all of this for he did not have the desire to turn the attention on himself. However, it was because of his similar experience that inspired him to finally find the right words to say.

"Look, Suri," he sighed, his blue eyes now wandering forward, not really looking at anything. His heart was still thudding inside his chest. "You've seen and been through many bad things. I understand if you feel afraid or still troubled. Anybody would be. However, I think that a rocky past can strengthen a person. I believe that our past determines who we are today. For you to go through that kind of hell and turn out the way you did took true strength and courage. You are strong, Suri and with that experience in your life, you are wise. I saw it in you the moment you joined my division and I have no reason to think otherwise."

What happened at Tagg's wedding must have been frightening for you but do not forget that you are still here. Something no less than a miracle must have happened for your life to be spared. Take that moment and learn from it. Also, Tagg was beat to death by her past husband, but that did not keep her from falling in love again did it?"

I know you have the determination and patience to someday overcome your doubts and fears. We cannot always avoid a bad situation, but if we look past the negatives and try hard enough, we can always bend them in our favor. Do not hinder or doubt your intuition for it will always lead you in the right direction. All things happen for a reason, Suri. Make the best of it and use the experience to prepare you for a second time. Just keep smiling and looking ahead. Our lives here prove that there are always second chances. Someday, you'll realize that everything is going to be just fine."

Letting out another sigh, Nagi suddenly smiled as he realized that he just spoke his mind way too much. He wasn't about to apologize for it though. It was the way he felt and he was going to simply say it all. A word left out just wouldn't make any sense to him.
"I think that no matter what you say, you cannot change my mind." he chuckled. "I appreciate what you've done for me and I'm grateful to have someone like you as my Lt. In exchange, I will always have your back when you need somebody. That is a promise."

:As Nagi spoke up after the long silence, Suri rolled onto her back again, opening her eyes and staring at the light through the roof of the tree leaves. Sometimes it surprised her how wise Nagi seemed for having lived so much shorter than she had, but then again her life on Earth had been spent as an uneducated peasant for fifteen years, and then another eight years of being an uneducated sex slave.

Nagi's mention of how Tagg had managed to love again seemed a bit lacking in humor to Suri. She did not expect there to be humor in the first place, but she laughed dryly at that, albeit quietly so that the sound was almost undetectable. There was no guarantee that Tagg had married her former husband out of love in the first place - perhaps she had somehow been forced to it or had resigned to it as her fate - but it was possible. In her own case, Suri had never experienced love. When she was barely old enough to even be courted by the boys in her town, she had gotten sold off, by her father no less. And then the lord who had taken her in had not been kind. The first few weeks he had been pleasant to her, hoping that she would come around and resign herself to her fate, but that was not the case. There was no feeling of passion in Suri for that man - as flirtatious and gentle as he may have been to her before he forced himself, she had heard the sounds of him beating his many other mistresses in the room surrounding hers. And her fate had been the same after he lost his patience. It had been especially bad when she refused to service any of his guests.

Once dead, having killed herself and the lord, Suri had hid in Rukongai. For some 1,700 years she had hid, away from all the men that loitered around the place. Everyone knew Rukongai was not a kind place - her greeting by some of the men told her that instantly. In death she could not escape the way she looked, the way she talked, or the way she walked, all the things that had been forced through her head in order to please her master. There were those she saw and knew - the lords who had come to visit, her master, and to her cold surprise, even her father. Even after Suri's departure, he had felt no remorse. Watching from the shadows, Suri had heard him boast to other men how he had survived the turmoil by selling off all her siblings to be conscript laborers or sex slaves, like her.

After hiding in the uninhabited parts of Rukongai for so long, Suri had survived by killing the creatures that lived in the wild area. The strength that she had developed from there, and the reiatsu that grew with it, had attracted Urahara who had promptly forced her into the Academy against her will. He was probably the only man who she felt any fond feelings for. Gratitude - that she had for her master even. He had made her strong in a sense, but that strength could not dull her fear of him.

Though all these thoughts floated through Suri's head, she refrained from commenting on them to Captain Nagi. He was only trying to be helpful, he did not deserve her bitterness and anger, built up through centuries.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Suri listened to the rest of Captain Nagi's words, heeding them. If she started now, maybe she could let go of all her bitter feelings. And perhaps she could grow strong enough to resist the memories of her past.

With a swift motion, Suri stood up, her action fluid and graceful, almost like a cat. Just another part of who she was trained to be. Every time she did battle Suri was reminded of that. And it was one thing for which she was grateful since it allowed her to get out of sticky situations at times. Without knowing quite how to respond to Captain Nagi's flattering comment, Suri brushed herself off, making sure that there were no green stains on the back of her pants legs or shirt. Her zapaku~to's sheath had made a slight indent in her side and ribcage, but it was not anything harmful.

Stretching her arms up to the sky as high as they would go, Suri turned back towards the Captain and gave him a genuine smile of gratitude, with subtle hints of happiness.

"Thank you, Captain," Suri bowed, "for both your encouraging and your kind words. I am glad to know that I have a friend here in the Sereitei, even if he is a mere child." She stuck her tongue out playfully at the last statement, and then retracted it in horror at what she had done - insulting a Captain and making such a rude gesture.

"I apologize," Suri bowed quickly, hoping that he would not be too angry. She stood there, as if awaiting punishment, which a part of her was expecting.:

(( If we gave 20 years for each generation, Suri would be like... Nagi's great x80 grandmother. Just a random thing. Anyways, I was wondering which kidous I should teach the other two? And yeah, I have to leave for the Earth mission trip on Sunday. Should I postpone the training, or do you think you can come in and take over for me? Or should I treat the PRPs as if I was still there somehow? ))
PostPosted: Mon Sep 08, 2008 2:53 pm

((The mentioning of Tagg's past was merely example, not meant to be funny really.))

Suri's quick movement and mood change startled Nagi to the point of nearly falling over backward. Though he was getting quite nervous of the emotions she had been portraying after his speech, he tried his best not to lose his composure so easily. Remarkably, he didn't move an inch from where he sat though he felt as though the back of his head smacked into the tree. He most likely did but didn't recall doing it.

His blue eyes followed as Suri moved about for a bit then cocked his head to the side for a moment at the mentioning of the word "mere child" but didn't think to say anything of it. Though Suri did somewhat mention the time era in which she resided when she was alive, Nagi didn't really calculate how much older she was than him. Mostly because he didn't have any idea of how old he was himself. For all he knew, he was the youngest or maybe even the oldest shinigami there. To him, it was a bad idea to judge.

An eyebrow raised as he received the sudden quick apology. It was remarkable to him how women could change their emotions so rapidly in such a short amount of time. It was all too difficult to understand at times. At this moment, it was obvious that she was awaiting some kind of reprimanding. This was something he did understand- now that her past had been revealed. It was as if somebody came into his brain, turned on the light and dusted away the cobwebs.

With all his thoughts adding up, Nagi couldn't help but smile.
"It's okay." he laughed as he let out a laugh. He didn't laugh directly at her, but more out of his joy that things were beginning to look up.

Letting out a relieved sigh, he glanced up at the sky, noticing that the day was going by quickly. It was back to business.
"I think we've had enough break-time. I still have a few more kidos I'd like to teach you before the day is over." he suggested, flashing her a grin.

((The PRP's shouldn't have anything to do with any plots that are going on outside of them. This is why it is easy to use them for training like this and be three or more places at once. I'd leave your training sessions open and get to them when you can. I could try to take over for you but I have my hands full already.))

:Somewhat glad that she had not been reprimanded, Suri straightened up. She had managed to compose herself again, and her face was set in a sober look. Somewhat appalled at her previous display, Suri decided that it was time to get back to business. There was no way that she could slack off on her training now with so many conflicts that were soon to come up. On top of that, as a lieutenant, she knew that she had more duties. It never seemed to leave her head that responsibility weighed heavily on her now. Even if she wanted to, there was little chance that she could avoid everything that was bouncing around in the Sereitei.

She moved to stand under the shade, holding her zanpaku~to by its hilt. With a serious expression, she turned to Nagi and nodded politely.

"I am ready to continue our training," Suri said, keeping her tone even. "I apologize for my inappropriate behavior."

Waiting for Nagi to propose their next plan of action, Suri turned her gaze back to the forests, as if sensing a presence there. Of course, it was nothing more than a bird bursting out of the tree tops, but Suri watched it take flight, secretly envying the bird's carefree attitude that allowed it to roam free. She did not shirk on duties, and she was not annoyed of assisting people, but sometimes she wanted to grow wings and take flight also.:

(( Dandy, can I teach them enkosen? And the list of kidous is getting longer with each new Bleach chapter. The next one's pretty awesome ^^ ))
PostPosted: Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:41 pm

(Yeah, that's not a prob. I'm teaching that to someone already. It's pretty friggen sweet.))

"Okay, we're going to start on some good basic hado." Nagi explained. "I'm sure you know about shakkaho, sokatsui, and haien. These are the known fire based kidos and are possibly some of the most known and used. I'm not big into them but you know how it goes... If you're going to be a trainer, it's essential that you know these. I'm sure you'll learn them fairly quickly." he added. "They're easy as cake."

"We'll do shakkaho first." he continued, scanning around for something to aim at. It was a large field and quite empty. He didn't like the idea of shooting at trees so he was keeping his eyes open for a good sized rock. No sooner than a minute later, he found one a reasonable distance away. "There we go... I'm going to aim for that rock over there."

Taking in a deep breath, he let out it slow and steady as if he were meditating. All the talk that went on earlier had to be banned from his mind for just a short while to make room for concentration.

"Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, The sea barrier surges, March on to the south!" he chanted while raising the pulsing arm with the palm facing outward. As he spoke, a ball of hot red light roughly the size of a tennis ball appeared in the center of his hand. Taking careful aim, his dilated right eye was focused on the small piece of earth. "Hado number thirty-one, Shakkaho!"

At the final word, the red ball of light burst fourth with intense speed and hit the target, causing it to burst into many pieces from the heat. Nagi lowered his arm as a wisp of dark smoke emitted from his palm.

"That's all there is to it." he smiled while lightly flicking his tingling wrist.

:When Nagi mentioned learning hado now, Suri stiffened a bit, both from excitement and nervousness. It would be the first time she learned a hado beyond the basic ones, but she was not sure what the results would be. Offensive stances were not suited to her capabilities. When needed she attacked, but for the most part she usually tried to defend. Knowing that it was folly to disregard hados though, Suri paid attention. How stupid would she look when situations got tough and she lacked the proper kidous to get through them?

Suri watched perceptively, noting how this kidou was a reddish color, much like fire. Unlike enkosen which had the user project his/her own reiatsu, this kidou was a bit set in its definition. That made it slightly easier to use without much thought, similar to using a standard zanpaku~to versus one that a person had created individually. As Nagi's fireball flew towards the target and exploded, Suri's mind quickly went over the incantation so that she would not mess up. Once that was memorized, Suri's concern drifted over to her aim. In the distance she could see a fair sized rock, similar to the one that Nagi had aimed at, but Suri was unsure whether or not she could hit it. Summoning would not be a problem - she allowed herself confidence in that respect.

Licking her lips nervously, Suri turned to face the rock and held out her palm, taking a breath before calming herself and speaking the incantation. "Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, March on to the south!" Rapidly, a ball of red fire appeared, floating over her hand. She raised her arm levelly so that the fire directly covered the rock in her line of sight. "Hado number thirty-one, Shakkaho!"

The reiatsu shot forward, causing Suri to stumble back a step, but she quickly regained balance. Watching with horror, Suri saw that the hado had flown slightly off course. Only about 2/3 of the fire ball actually hit. Thankfully, the rock managed to apply enough force back on those 2/3s that the rest of the kidou fizzled out before a fire could be started.

"I apologize for my clumsiness," Suri bowed to Nagi before turning back to the rock. Even though it was not dry, Suri could imagine the kind of fire that could start in such a grassy area. If the kidou had not fizzled out, she would have been responsible for burning a fair portion of the field, and this was not the official practice field, so that made it a bit worse.

With a deep frown of concentration, Suri attempted the kidou again, this time purposely making her fire ball smaller, hoping to incinerate the rest of the rock.

"Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, The sea barrier surges, March on to the south!" Suri said the incantation clearly, hoping that maybe that would help her focus better. "Hado number thirty-one, Shakkaho!"

This time, to her relief, the fire red hado flew true, striking the boulder with such force that tiny shards exploded. Gradually all the pieces managed to fall back down to earth, and the fire ball had been extinguished on impact.:

Nagi bit his bottom lip slightly as he watched the results of her first attempt. He had felt that part of it was his fault for he had forgotten to warn her about the kick. Watching her hado soar off course, he watched it separate while the bulk of it hit the mark. Making a mental note to check out the area later so that there were no fire hazards to contend with, he was glad to see that the second attempt was a success.

He could have easily argued over the fact that she had called herself clumsy, considering who she was talking to. That wasn't important at the moment.

"It's all good." Nagi laughed, giving her a thumbs-up. "That shot was pretty good. Just concentrate on your aim as much as you do with the incantation and you'll be easy set. After you learn the next two kidos, you'll probably never want to go back to this one. Are you up for trying hado 33? Or would you like to rest first?"

He thought he'd ask this time since he couldn't quite tell how she was feeling after the two attempts. He usually would give a forced break, but since they just took one, he didn't see the need.

:Suri cocked her head quizzically at the sign that Nagi had just given her. Was there some special meaning behind his pointing his thumbs to the sky? Or perhaps he did not know that it made him look slightly foolish. Not knowing, Suri was unsure of whether to speak up about it.

Nagi's next question distracted her from the odd gesture. Trying to assess herself, Suri felt pretty sure that she was not tired yet. She was still a bit shaken by the force of the hado; no doubt the next one would be stronger, but she felt ready. On top of that, she was feeling restless after having mulled over her past for so long. Perhaps it was because she had never given herself a long enough break to think through her memories. Either way, she was feeling refreshed for somewhat sorting through them. Her elevation made her feel like she was ready to go through a barrage of kidou, but the energy spurt probably would not last that long. There was no point trying to contain it now though.

"I think I can go on," Suri announced decidedly. "I will not hesitate from asking for a break if I feel like I need one though.":
