Can't think of any. am I the only one who finds his sig offensive? It's meant as a lighthearted joke. Do you know what kind of Jew he is? I'm not that well educated yet. How can you want to be a Jew when you don't know the different branches of Judaism?

I'm not that well educated yet. How can you want to be a Jew when you don't know the different branches of Judaism? Traditional, Orthodox, Reform, Reconstruction. I'm still trying to find a reform Jew rabbi. I do not know how to tell different branches apart by sight yet.

Generally Chassidics are the only ones you can tell by sight due to their 18th centrurty black clothing from Eastern Europe.
Ultra-Orthodox (Charedi) and Orthodox Jewish men wear kippot (yalmulkes) at all times, while maried Orthodox women will cover their heads with scarves such as the tichel.
Reform, Conservative and Reconstrucitonist Jews generally wear normal clothing outside of shul, though I know some men who will wear a kippah at all times just like an Orthodox Jew.

In Medias Res II am I the only one who finds his sig offensive? In all fairness In Medias... I used that joke on Dark Phoenix when she was talking about qualifying as a black belt. The guy in the picture is Yehoshua Sofer, Grandmaster of Abir, a Martial Arts designed by and spiritually linked to Israeli Jews based on ancient techniques used by King David's bodyguards.  He's also a Master of Kuk Sool Wong, a Korean style akin to Karate and Taikuondo and is known as the Bruce Lee of Israel. In Medias Res II How can you want to be a Jew when you don't know the different branches of Judaism? Res, chill out. It takes everyone awhile to differentiate and learn even basic things about Judaism. When you don't live near a Jewish community, it makes it harder to recognize things that might seem obvious to someone else. My advice to you Callamandes is to read some books about converting to the different branches. I own "Choosing a Jewish Life" by Anita Diamant, and it is strictly about converting to the more Liberal sects (Reform, Reconstructionist, and Conservative)...but also read one about converting to Orthodoxy just to see what suits you best. I can't recommend any from personal experience, but I hear Rabbi Lamm's "Becoming a Jew" is very informative. I won't lie, if you decide Judaism is for you it will take awhile to get everything down and sometimes it will be frustrating. Stick with it though, and you'll come to see that it was all very worth it. If you decide not to, don't worry, learning from the experience can be just as good.

Can I recommend "To Be A Jew"? I can't remember the Rabbi's name, but it was very helpful when I embraced my faith.
On the subject on telling people apart by sight, kippahs are no help. I wear a kippah usually, but my father is really against religious Judaism, shomer Shabbat, keeping Kosher and stuff like that, so I don't wear it when I'm at home. I'm Liberal, which is like Reform on much more liberal lmao. And quite British, to be honest. Let's face it. You can only tell Chassidim/Charedi/etc, because the black or the pinstripe coats and hats are so obviously Jewish. Other times in Israel, but very occaisonally, you can't tell if they're Muslim, Christian or Jewish.

I'm just going to say that the conversion process is not that easy, I am really enjoying it myself because my Jewish friends and my rabbi make me feel at home in the Jewish community. But as a friendly warning you need to think about it and be really sure that it is what you want to do because I find it very unlikely that you will go through unchallenged. I personally have faced people my own peers that have been putting me down and saying I was ruining my life by choosing to be religious, and according to them Jewish of all things, and at one point it got so bad that I broke down crying.
As far as books I have read a little bit so far and I can recommend a few things.
Jewish Literacy by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin. (it's gigantic but very informative)
actually anything by Telushkin will help.
Embracing Judaism by Simcha Kling
