I was watching Fosters and some people were throwing tomatoes at Bluu and he says, "Attack of the killer tomatoes!" ::shakes her booty '80s style::

In one Strong Bad email, they used the phrase "everybody put their weight on it." "Put your weight on it," is a registered trademark of Rudy Ray Moore.
Odd coincidence: Foster's has an entire ep devoted to a Homestarr Runner/Weebl & Bob reference, in the form of a character who likes potatoes, named "Cheese".

And he's a recurring character.

Fosters, itself, is the most ref-heavy series I've seen since "Teen Titans". There was another ep where Mac is a superhero imaginary friend's sidekick, and he looks up a list of catchphrases online. That's the first time I've ever seen a show say it's making references without breaking the fourth wall.

- In the recent Cutey Honey OVA, a combined parody of magical girl transformation sequences and Osamu Tezuka's Astroboy appears in the form of "Penisman".

1) Given that there's multiple Cutey Honey remakes, I'd just like to clarify that what Spider's referring to is by Gainax, and is officially called Re: Cutie Honey.

2) "Penisman" is a character from one of Go Nagai's series. (Go Nagai being the creator of the original Cutey Honey.)

3) Additionally, in the final episode ep of the series, Aki Natsuko is seen answering an old rotary dial phone. The center of the dial says "NCC-1701", which is the starship registry number of the first Enterprise!

4) The title of the final TV episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion is "The Beast that Shouted 'Love' at the Heart of the World", which is also the title of a short story collection by classic sci-fi author Harlan Ellison. But Gainax made a pun out of the word "Love", which is pronounced "ai" in Japanese.

So the episode title can also be read as "The Beast that Shouted 'I' at the Heart of the World".

It's stuff like this that makes Gainax all kinds of awesome. heart

5) FLCL and Evangelion also happen to reference sci-fi works by Cordwainer Smith, which is a pseudonym for Paul Myron Anthony Linebarger. Linebarger is valued as an expert on psychological warfare, and wrote a book on it, which is considered a classic text on the subject.

whymeeeeee

- Deadpool was originally created by Rob Liefeld and was a transparent plagarism of DC's Deathstroke, who's real name is Slade Wilson. Deadpool's name is Wade Wilson.

Can you really expect anything more from Liefeld? Hell, he thought he was being clever.
