Ambroise had nothing to apologise for, he had given her the 'spark' she needed to fight back. In a manner of speaking he had provided a service to her and in time she would realise that. Young she might have been but if enough people hit a nerve as he had, perhaps she would grow a spine. His brow rose higher at her demand and it was with a dismissive snort and a shake of his head that he denied her order. Ambroise had kept his honour and protected his family in the process, she had been the one in the bubble... with that in mind he took the more appropriate action.
Instead of stepping forward he smiled darkly and stepped backwards. She had forgotten, or seemed to have forgotten the quirks and appendages he did possess. Blocking him from the front, blocking his immediate path was pointless given that he could walk around her or better yet... He unfurled his wings and as a matter of principle, beat his wings once. The motion was an abrupt one and severe enough to lift his front hooves off the ground with little effort. However, it also served another purpose for he had inherited the unique glow that emanated from his father's feathers. While other feathers had their lustre, Ambroise's literally glowed. He had a reason to be proud of his heritage and more to the point, it reminded her of what she lacked.
It had been her choice to reject his initial and immediate apology, he had more dignity than to apologise twice...especially when he was not at fault. His demonstration of strength and superiority complete he shook his head and released a chuckle. No, he had always been one who favoured seclusion and silence - thus when he did speak, he shot daggers. Even a cobra would have been envious of how accurate he made his verbal blows.
"Remind me again why I should apologise to a creature," he sauntered towards her and bent a wing round to lightly brush the tips against her cheek. Lowering his head so that his muzzle was mere inches from hers, he then arched a brow. "That sees herself as dirt? Something of such little value...deserves nothing surely."

At first complete awe over took her face, but at his obvious triumphant and disapproving look he gave her, she grew angry yet again. Her body shook with sheer rage that he could be such a male and find her demand beneath him. He'd insulted her, was insulting her even more, and was still refusing to do the right thing!
She want to snap at the feathers that touched her, to pull them from his wing to show he could bleed just like any other Soquili. As soon as she thought that, she saw her sister ripping her feathers from her wings pleading for her not to leave them, that she'd give her wings if she could to keep their family whole. Her eyes were green fire as she spoke. "Because you bleed just like the rest of us."
She snapped her teeth out at him just to prove her point, trying to graze her teeth against his muzzle. "I am not some cowed mare to be ridiculed further by some wanna-be halfling!"

"Says the halfling without wings," Ambroise's response was smooth and he lifted his nose ever so slightly avoid her attack. It wasn't complete avoidance though, her muzzle would collide with his chest and leave a mark. However the manner in which he had dodged ensured he wouldn't flinch which he deemed to be considerably more important. It was only after he had made such a motion that he shook his head and withdrew again, with a sweep of his vibrant mane across the undergrowth that lay at his hooves. He found it ironic that she now demanded an apology from him when she had failed so terribly against another wind.
To insult him was hypocritical. He had simply referred to her as she had desired him to. She viewed herself as dirt and so he treated her as such. He had truly had enough of her foolish ways and it was with a small chuckle that he fixed pale eyes upon her and the expression of disdain lined his granite features.
"You are a cowed mare for as long as you portray yourself to be. You claimed you were dirt and that is what you are. If you do not want to be recognised as that," he gave his wings another beat and lifted himself into the air briefly to rid the twigs from the tips of his mane. "Then stop referring to yourself in such a pitiful manner." He snorted dismissively at her and with a shiver of his wings continued to move away from the mare in the opposite direction.
He would make her run, make her follow. Eventually she would find her sense of dignity and stop chasing him like some possessive whelp.
"To demand an apology now is hypocritical," he pointed out calmly and as if to prove a point he deliberately folded his wings against his sides and kept walking. He didn't have to fly to escape from an imbecile...and whether she cared to realise it or not, his patience was renowned. She could prod and poke at him for hours and he wouldn't flinch. She would be in for a very long wait before she received the words she apparently longed to hear.
Words a hypocrite would never receive.

She knew he was right with his last remark, but she began to follow him nevertheless. "Ambroise, it may be hypocritical, but I know I'm right," she called ahead of her at his back. She didn't care if she followed him to the ends of the world. He wasn't going to say she didn't have honor and run away from her. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
