But since it's a role-play, shouldn't people choose they're own classes and come up with they're own, as long as they do not god-mod and can explain they're characters powers/ablities/ect.?

I think people should fall into a general class, yet they will have there own names/sub-classes.

Example:

Species: Centaur
Class: Mage - warrior shaman

I think that would be best.

There you have a point, I'll agree with that.

ITS AN RPG NOT AN RP! if you want an RP go to the plains. THIS IS AN RPG think final fantasy, dragon quest, DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS!

I, personally, know nothing of MMOs. The classes allude me, but I don't see any difference between an RP and an RPG. Tagging the word game onto the end doesn't make it more special!

In either case, I know that I-- and probably others-- would hate to get stuck using only a handful of classes. I'd like, if possible, to have certain roles within the community(ies) be fulfilled without sticking to the general Archer, Healer, etc guidelines.

For instance, when I made this account (it's a mule of my main), I decided that because horses scare me a lot irl I wanted her to be a little Donkey.

Donkeys are used to as guards for flocks of sheep or goats, and as I view centaurs as mostly vegetarians or at least gentle omnivores-- I figure wool/sheep would be pretty valuable. Allowing us to choose individual professions/purposes would allow small niches within the community to be fulfilled.

Groups of people could organize Rangers or Archers or what have you-- the classes COULD be used, but only allowing a few select ones (and only those) seems like it might cause problems.

I'd like to, if possible, be a travelling fighter with a sword. Maybe even my fists. And maybe one power to heal and/or destroy? biggrin I like to be in the fight in RPs.

THAT my friend is where you are wrong, an RP is a story like an interactive anime, while an RPG is an RP with more structure a combat and XP system and a point based level system or something along those lines an RPG is also MUCH more organized/

So, exactly the same thing? Haha. I've been RPing for years, and it's always been structured-- but it's still really, just playing pretend. I think that just because some people RP with a different degree of proficiency doesn't mean that the game deserves another letter! It's still the same thing!

basically the big difference is that there are dice. If you want to see what I plan on doing go to a book store and open up a D&D players handbook.

Yeah, yeah I know. I figured that much-- although thinking more on the use of dice, as well as combat and experience points, how do you plan on implementing them, story wise?

Herds of horses are without rank. It's not like a wolf pack, you know? There is just a lead mare, and then everybody else. No lead boy, no separate herd of males like you see with bison or other cattle-- it's just a lead mare and everybody else. Centaurs are different, but taking horse nature into account I'm just wondering how the use of experience will work out when, within the herd, everyone is the same?

I'm glad you asked, Hoof is not just gonna be a combat RPG there will be several types of games, from being a merchat to a lore keeper a bard or one of the many combat classes. As for the expierience this game is set during a time of war think of it as an alternate reality. The races and monsters are fighting etc so now the centaurs are ranked by expierience so the herd and herd elders may no who is more skilled in terms of battle.

One of the few things I really don't want to be seeing in this RPG is overpowered/I-can-do-everything characters.

Being able to dual (or triple) class and play multiple roles is alright, but there must be restrictions. Part of the fun (for me) in playing games with character classes is you have to choose what you like most instead of getting everything.

ie no Mage-Warrior-Healer hybrids. Please.

Dont worry, multiclassing is available though through general skills but you can never compare general skills to actual class skills. so their may be healing warriors but they'll never be as strong as a full warrior or as adept at healing as a healer class.
