Rengeki chuckled, scratching his head. "You don't have to call me sir, young Silver. I'm not that old. A few centuries yes, but not like my father. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been around since the dawn of time... No, that would be my Grandfather, nevermind," he said, in his thoughts for a moment. He shook his head, his black hair sticking to his forehead, to get rid of that thought. Goddess was his family old...

He turned it attention back to Silver. "Mary, huh? Is that what she's calling herself these days? Can't say I blame her, given her circumstances. I'll take you there. You won't be able to wait out the storm, unfortunately. It'll rain like this for a few weeks. That's far too long for an Angel, such as yourself, to wait, isn't it? You're Ascending afterall, right?" said Rengeki, touching the stone around his neck. There was a roar and a flash of light. A deep purple dragon hovered next to Silver.

Get on, little one. I'll be able to take you to Mary without a problem. By the way, I'm a Manakete, dragonkyn if you will. he said in Silver's mind as he waited.

Silvrendir flushed a bit, but he grinned at Rengeki. It seemed this Mary person was quite famous in this world - he was becoming anxious to meet her. And maybe she would know a way for him to travel in this kind of weather. Not that he minded - so far - but if using his magic would attract beings who would harm him ... well, he needed a better way.

"Thank you," he said softly, just loudly enough to be heard over the rain.

He was momentarily startled to hear the voice of the Manakete in his head, but he'd had people talk in his head before, so it faded quickly. He wondered if he could talk back to the dragon the same way, but he simply smiled at him and released the barrier that surrounded him.

Immediately, he was once again pelted by the rain and buffeted by the wind, but he fought against it and sat on the Manakete's back, holding on tightly so that he wouldn't fall and resting his already exhausted wings. He waved to Rengeki and smiled as well as the weather would let him.

"Thanks again!" he called out. "I hope to see you again sometime!"

Rengeki chuckled, a throaty, kind of coughing sound. He'd be seeing a whole lot of the dragon, if Rengeki's feeling of where the Angel needed to go was right. Hold on! he said before taking off from his hover. Rengeki didn't go his fastest speed; that would really scare the poor boy.

It was smooth sailing until they reached the outskirts of the city. There was a loud screech and Rengeki swerved to get out of the way. There was loud roar from the dragon as he spun to a stop.

"Aw, look, a dragonkyn and an Angel. Master will be pleased with me. Very pleased. Many a meal for me when I bring these in," sqwuaked a bird human. This was a harpy. A mage one by the looks of it. Her speech was better than most. Rengeki growled at the harpy.

Damnit. Silver, hold on tight young one. This is going to get very rough said Rengeki before charging at the harpy. She was so wrapped up in how much food she'd get she didn't noticed the claws ripping her wings off. There was a high pitched screech and a loud crunch as her body crumpled. Rengeki let her go and speed off, licking the blood of his claws.

Silvrendir hung onto the Manakete as tightly as he dared, hoping that he wasn't hurting the man as they whipped through the air. He had never flown this fast before - his wings were so small, he knew he would never be able to fly that fast on his own. It was an exhilarating feeling - the wind whipping past him, the storm around them ...

His eyes grew wide at the sight of the strange creature that they suddenly encountered, and he flatted his wings to his back and hunched down as close as he could to Rengeki's back, trying to keep himself safe. The next thing he knew, the creature was falling, and they were safely racing away once more.

"Was that a harpy?" he asked, leaning forward over Rengeki's shoulder to speak to him for the first time since mounting him.

The dragon nodded his head. Yes. That is a special type of harpy, as well. A mage harpy. Mages have better speech than regular harpies, he said as he began to spiral slowly downward. Below them was a large horse ranch, with many stallions and mare in the pasture. A dark haired woman was standing just outside the pasture fence, looking up at them.

Rengeki landed sofly in front of the woman. I'm going to change back. You've been warned, he said before prompted changing back, without a roar.

The woman shook her head. "Aren't you supposed to in Courve, Prince Rengeki?" The man cringed at the title.

"I thought I told you not to call me that! It sounds so... like I'm high and mighty or something..." he said, color on his cheeks. The woman laughed and peered around at Silver.

"Ah... an Angel... been far too long... last time we had one I went by a different name... I'm Mary, by the way, young Angel."

Silvrendir wondered about the harpy as they drew nearer to the ground. Perhaps when he returned home he would have to ask Shiro about them ... his brother seemed to know just about everything, and what he didn't know, he could research and find out quite easily.

After Rengeki changed back into his true form, Silvrendir slid off his back, trying not to stare too conspicuously at Mary. Her introduction was nearly lost in the wind, and Silvrendir held his wings up to block himself from some of the storm.

"Hello," he said, hoping she would hear him, bowing low to show his respect. He didn't fully know who she was, but he knew that she was someone important - she had to be, the way people kept talking about her. "My name is Silvrendir, and I am told that you can help me on my quest."

He was starting to shiver, soaked to the bone from the rain and chilled from the wind. He wanted to ask if they could head inside, but he didn't want to be rude, and so he decided to wait until he was invited.

He hoped the storm would let up soon ... but the old elf had said it would probably last for weeks ...

The woman laughed. "You don't have to shout. I can hear you fine over the storm, young one." Mary seemed to be still for a while, as if listening to the wind. "Master Silvrendir... you've come a long way just to Ascend. Please, lets go inside, for Rengeki is far too conspictuous out here." She ushered them inside the farm house and sat them at the table, handing each a cup of dragonblossom tea.

"You've been told I can help you, am I right? From what I gather you are to go to Nymphade Forest and seek the elves there. I do wonder what they are planning... No matter. I will help you, for a price," said Mary, taking a sip of her tea.

The Manakete Prince sighed, and rolled his eyes. "You know we'll never find any trace of them, right? They'll supposed to be dead!" Mary looked at him with an eyebrow raised.

"And after what you did to her, I'm supposed to believe they're dead?" Rengeki scowled, but shut up. "I thought so."

A look of utter confusion crossed Silvrendir's face, and he couldn't help but wonder if Mary was also some sort of elf, if she was able to hear him so loudly over the noise of the storm. He followed her and Rengeki inside silently, taking a seat at the table as he was shown. He accepted the tea gratefully, offering Mary one of his rare smiles.

"Thank you," he murmured before taking a sip. He could feel the warmth of the drink spreading through his body, and he felt better immediately.

He nodded at Mary's question, but he was perplexed as to what she was talking about.

"The elves ... are in hiding?" he guessed, holding the mug with both hands to warm them up. "Why?"

The woman looked at Silverendir with a smile and chuckled. "Has that old elf told you that? Somehow, I wouldn't be surprised, given his age...

"Anyway, the elves have been in hiding since the first human empereor of Patr, more than 72,000 moon phases ago, or as you may be more familier with, more than 6,000 years ago, came into power. He banished the Kyn to Courve, where they hide for millienia, until the War of Kyn 9,600 moon phases ago.

"A valient young girl of 16 years helped win the war, a top an emerald green dragon. She commanded a vast army for her young years, of every race of this realm. It was quite something..." Mary paused to take a sip of her tea. Dragonblossom was her favorite of all the foreign teas. For more reasons than just the flavor.

"The elves are still hidden for they have lost something of great importance. The center of their magick. Something call the 'Magi's Eye'. Where this is, I couldn't tell you. I may be a keeper of secrets, but there are somethings that I just don't know," she said with a shrug. Rengeki rolled his eyes and tried not to look underwelmed. The prince sipped his tea and drank three more cups during her speel.

Around his eyes, pointed ears, and the small curved horns just behind said ears small scales in the same dark purple of his wings were sprouting. He scratched his eye and grinned sheepishly.

"Ever a side effect of dragonblossom tea on Manakete..." he chuckled, drinking yet another cup. Mary just shook her head. How had that prince lasted the millienia he had?

Silvrendir was about to reply to Mary that no, the other elf hadn't told him about the elves in hiding, but she went on and so he held his tongue and listened intently.

The story reminded him a little bit of his grandmother ... though it was the dwarfs who were now in exile, and not the elves. No, the elves were the largest race in that world.

"Am I to help them find this eye?" he asked finally, thoughtfully. "Is that my quest?"

At Rengeki's comment, he glanced at the Manakete. He did a double take when he saw the scales growing on the prince's head, and he pushed his tea away hurriedly, her brow furrowing in worry. He couldn't help but raise one hand to feel along his forehead ... did he also have those scales growing from the tea he had been drinking?

Rengeki laughed at Silver, a loud rumbbling sound that shook the windows. "My dear angel, this side affect only effects Manakete, people like me. You have nothing to worry about," he said, patting the boy on the head, his hand passing through the halo.

Mary shrugged and sipped her tea. "That I do not know. You asked why they were in hiding. Not whether the reason they were in hiding was the reason you are to go to them." She was very still again, a small breeze blowing in through a slightly open window.

"No... but it will be part of it. You will start an immense ripple as to why you are here to Ascend. The Eye is part of your quest, yes, but there is something bigger you will help to start to move." Mary almost sounded prophet like, and even Rengeki had grown quiet. She drank her tea in silence for a long while.

It was best to let these things sink in.

A faint blush sprinkled Silvrendir's freckled cheeks, and he smiled sheepishly up at Rengeki, reaching once more for his tea.

"It tastes good," he offered, warming his hands once more. His green eyes flickered towards Mary as she continued to speak, and he fell silent once more to show her the respect she so obviously deserved. He still didn't know much about what he was doing there, and he wanted to know as much as he could ... he had to know what was going on ...

But Mary's pronouncement gave him butterflies in his stomach. What if he failed in his quest? What if he wasn't able to do what he was supposed to do? Would this ... event ... still take place? Would he cause some sort of destruction?

Suddenly he sneezed into his tea.

"Excuse me," he apologized, rubbing his nose. He was freezing, and he was soaked ... and it seemed as though he might be coming down with a cold. He rubbed his nose again, then rubbed his bare feet together and looked anxiously up at Mary.

"I ... don't want to be a bother," he murmured nervously, "but ... can I dry off somewhere? Change my clothes and let these ones dry?"

He didn't dare ask for a blanket, or somewhere to rest - he was already intruding on the kind woman's hospitality, and he didn't need to take advantage of the fact.

Mary smiled almost instantly. "Of course, dear Sliver. I never would have let you out of here anyway like that. If you go upstairs, there is a bathroom on the right and and empty bedroom for you to stay in." The woman ushered him along.

Rengeki stared at her with an eyebrow raised. "What if he doesn't...?" The woman shook her head very matter a factly, and bobbed him on the nose.

"You seem to forget who I am, Prince Rengeki. What I say is completely true. He will not fail," she said before clearing the table. The prince sat there, thinking the last few centuries over in his head. He sighed and followed Silver up sometime later, to retreat to his own room.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 02, 2008 6:50 pm

Silvrendir walked ahead of Mary, missing right away the warmth of the cup of tea, but after the tea and the rain the thought of a bathroom was a happy one, and he picked up his pace and hurried on to the bathroom as quickly as he could. Just before he shut the door, he heard Rengeki's unfinished question, the one that had echoed only moments before in his own head ...

What if he didn't succeed?

The thought rolled through his head over and over again as he relieved himself, washed up, dried off and put on clean, dry clothes. After all, he was a tiny angel, with very little power to speak of ... and honestly, a protective barrier - kekkai, as his brother Shiro called it - wouldn't help him out of every situation ... especially if using magic would attract creatures like the harpy he and Rengeki had met up with. He had no skill with a blade, though he carried one with him at all times ... and that left him with ... what? Nothing.

He sneezed again as he left the bathroom and looked around for the empty bedroom for him to use. He wondered briefly where Mary was staying, and how long he would be staying with her, and how many questions he would be able to ask her, and how much information he could glean from her ... and if the storm would be over by the time he had to leave.

At long last he found the room where he was going to be staying (at least, he hoped it was the right room), and without hesitating, without even closing the door, he dropped his bag, crawled into the bed, wrapped the blanket around himself as tightly as he could, and drifted off into sleep.
