My brother was nice enough to bring me home some chocolate soy milk because I had a major chocolate craving going on. I got my fix but he got the biggest container possible. gonk

Not sure If I'll be able to drink it all before it goes bad..

Thanks for the article pirhan!

No problemo. I'll let you know how it goes. I too have a big thing of rice milk at the moment, so I have to work through that. Next milk product though will be the organic goats milk at the store.

Chocolate almond milk is superb. What else is good is this. Dark chocolate (over 75%) is part of the clear skin diet, plus that particular brand is super inexpensive and proceeds goes to conservation.

i tried finding that clear skin diet book at barnes & noble!! I couldn't remember the author tho, so I was skimming book titles.

Not to hijack the thread, but how is that clear skin diet working out for you?

If you have to drink animal milk, you're better of with goat's milk. It's easier to digest and has much less of the type of fat that is found in cow's milk (which also contributes to lactose intolerance, there's something about the body breaking down the fat)

I'm going to price out and compare almond milk to goat milk. I don't think rice milk sits well with me and I'm going to do without it.

Here's a good article I found about goats milk compared to cow milk:

Great article! I never knew that about goats milk.

I'm pretty sure I drank goats milk when I went to Europe to visit family many years ago. It tasted very rich and pretty good. It's way more available than here in the States.

Alan C. Logan :3 Also compliments the Brain Diet book.

I haven't been strict on it unfortunately. I really do try, but I'm very guilty in falling back to old eating habits.

The goats milk is working out really well. I've noticed a small difference in my skin. It was very weird at first - drinking animal milk. I think the last time I purposely drank a glass of cow's milk was at the turn of the century. It was quite a challenge to mentally overcome the change. I'm glad I'm off the rice milk. Bonus on the goats milk is that it comes in a recyclable jug.

Chocolate almond milk is very nummy. 3nodding

I love soy milk, but it REALLY isn't safe to drink outside asia! I'm sorry but it's true. We just don't know how to make it properly in the west :/

Here's the main dangers of soy that I know of, not all of them related directly to soy milk, but to soy in general.

1. Most modern soy foods are not fermented to neutralize toxins in soybeans, and are processed in a way that denatures proteins and increases levels of carcinogens, so it is NOT a good source of protein.
2. The compound that resembles vitamin B12 in soy cannot be used by the human body; in fact, soy foods cause the body to require more B12, therefore it is not actually a good replacement for other B12 sources.
3. Soy foods contain trypsin inhibitors that inhibit protein digestion and affect pancreatic function.
5. Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters. At dietary levels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue.
6. Most soy beans grown in the west are genetically engineered to allow farmers to use large amounts of herbicides. So that is another worry unless you can find/afford organic soy.
7. In Asia, people actually consume very little soy daily, and what they do consume is mostly a product of fermentation, such as soy sauce and miso soup, and so is safe to eat as it's anti-nutrients have been neutralised. So the opinion that soy is safe because people eat lots of it Japan and Japanese live long lives, is actually not quite right.

Camel dairy is very nutritious and apparently very tasty.

I don't drink milk. It's not needed as an adult. Occasionally I'll buy some almond or soy milk when I'm on a cereal or smoothie kick. That's about it.

Personally, I'd like to get my hands on some raw milk just to try it out once.
Here in Michigan it's illegal to sell raw milk, you can only get it if you own a cow. A farm not far from where I live does a cow sharing program (like buying stock, in a cow) so you co-own the cow with other people your just paying the farm to take care of it for you. I want to go over there as they also have cheese (they make Dutch type cheese on their farm) and free-range eggs for sale.

I have a lactase deficiency (i think) so I can't eat to much dairy (and I work at a pizza place gonk ). I haven't had cow's milk in a long time, I hardly drink soy milk, when i get it i use for chai lattes. Goat's milk sound intriguing, how does it taste?

Someone was wondering about negatives of almond milk. If you make your own be careful, bitter almonds if mixed with water create cyanide (also natural banana flavor is made from almonds, so it does too.)

I've been drinking goats milk now, absolutely no soy or alternative milk, for about three - four months. The other day I had soy milk and I had to (very lady like) spit it back out. It was really rank, and I was absolutely surprised. I tried again after a while with a new container, but still couldn't do it. It tastes so terrible.

I was pretty floored - when I first switched from "real" milk to soy, I never had a reaction like this. I didn't mind the taste of soy at all. I was in the mindset to like soy when I first tried, so that probably helped. When I went back to it after the goats milk, I think I was in a neutral or curious mindset, so I don't think that would of affected my taste buds.

Also, I forgot to order soy milk with some of my coffee drinks. Normally my tummy tells me that I did bad by rumbling a lot, but not a peep. So, it looks like I can drink "real" milk without major consequence. (FYI: BGH is illegal in Canada, so I'm safe from at least one icky in cows milk.)

Where do you get your goat milk pirhan? I've only read about it being better and easier to digest and I can only think of whole foods as a place to find it.

I'm not a big milk person to start with. I use whole cows milk for baking and on the rare occasion where i want milk I buy soy or almond milk so it doesn't disappear overnight.

got some goat's milk today, good stuff

they sell it at the regular supermarket (I'm lucky too, it's a supermarket chain that's all over the Midwest, but it's local for me, seriously there are like 30 stores in west Michigan.)

I am lucky as well that both the larger chain Save On Foods grocery store as well as the "small" chain Nesters both carry this brand: http://www.happydaysdairy.com/products.html

They have an organic line as well, but I don't see that other then Whole Foods. You'll most likely not have this brand as it's a smaller BC company.

Surprisingly enough - went to Whole Foods and my yogurt, miso and goats milk is all $1 less expensive then the local grocery store.
