The most wondrous thing happened today. I could hardly believe it.
Semora and I went to visit one of her dragon breeder friends this morning. While we were there, I was allowed to take a peek at the eggs in the hatchery. One of these days, one of those beauties will be mine. After seven years of studying at the university, I’ve finally taken the tests to apply to the Order of Wizards. I keep asking Semora if she’s heard anything and she keeps telling me to have patience.
Afterwards, Semora and I walked through the marketplace and stopped at our favorite vendor to buy warm pretzels. They were delicious, as always. We sat down by a troupe of musicians while we ate. When I finished the last of my pretzel, Semora told me she had a project for me. She pulled out a linen wrapped bundle and handed it to me.
I unwrapped it to find a dragon egg. My mouth must have been hanging down to my knees, I was so surprised. I thought this meant that I’d been accepted into the Order of Wizards, but Semora said no. She said that the breeders had several unusual eggs and they needed the eggs to be monitored outside of the Research center. Semora said she already had plenty of dragons so she was handing this one off to me. She said she was sure I had passed my tests and now was as good a time as any to receive a dragon egg.
I must have been sitting there with my mouth still hanging open because Semora told me to stop gaping at the egg and then asked me what I thought about it. I carefully wrapped the egg back up and told her that such a wonderful gift needed prettier wrapping. I told her I was going make a special bag to carry it in so I could keep it with me always.

This morning, I set my dragon egg in the middle of my bed and spread my fabric scraps around it. My new egg needed a new home until it hatched. I sat back and looked at the colors, but nothing seemed to catch my eye and say ‘use me’. If I couldn’t decide on one color, then I’d use several. I laid out a piece of muslin and started choosing smaller pieces of assorted fabrics and colors to lay on top of it. After getting those laid out in a crazy mosaic pattern, I laid out bits and pieces of braids and laces on top of them. I couldn’t seem to make up my mind which to choose. I talked to my egg all the while, always asking what it might like. Naturally, I got no response. I finally settled on a selection of fabrics and trims and got them all pinned together to hold them in place. That’s as far as I got in the morning. Semora needed me to do some scribing, so I set the egg in the pile of unused fabrics while I worked at my desk.
Several days later... I finished the embroidery on my egg’s special bag last night. Today I was able to add the batting for some extra cushioning, a piece of dusky rose-colored velvet for the lining, and sew the circle of sandwiched fabrics into a drawstring bag. I used braided cording for the drawstring and made it long enough to loop over my shoulder when the bag was closed. When I slipped my egg inside, it seemed content to have a home of its own.

Over the past several days, I’ve exposed the egg to different textures and colors by surrounding it with fabrics and trims. I’ve kept it in my lap while I’ve sewn embroidery on a bag that I made for it.
I’ve also kept it with me while I worked on scribing tasks for my mentor, Semora. The egg has also been exposed to Semora, an elderly wizard who teaches scribing at the University.
Semora asked me to deliver some scribed papers today. On the way, I saw a bard playing outside of the bakery shop. Semora hadn’t said the package needed to be delivered right away, so I thought it would be okay to stop and listen for a few minutes. He played wonderful music. And the fact that he was easy on the eyes didn’t hurt either. Some of the younger kids dancing around him. They were so cute. When he played a song that reminded me of home, I hugged my dragon egg. As much as I missed my parents, I could never have gotten my little gem if I hadn’t left home.
Then he played a lively tune and the children pulled me into their ring of dancing. I was having so much fun, I didn’t notice the time slipping away. I stopped to catch my breath and steady the egg in its new bag that had been bouncing along with the tunes. When my hand touched my satchel, I remembered the rolled up papers that I had been sent out to deliver. Without another thought, I dashed off to finish my errand.
Luckily, Semora’s friend, Miyna, wasn’t expecting me, so the papers I delivered were a pleasant surprise. When she opened the door, I could smell that she was baking again. She invited me in for cookies that she’d just taken out of the oven. No one can resist her wonderful baked desserts. She asked about my new bag, so I showed her the mystery egg that the Research center had asked to be monitored. I set the bag on the table, and the egg on top of it, next to the plate of warm almond cookies while I told her about how Semora had surprised me with the egg. I also told her that there were other eggs being watched and we all wrote reports to send back to the researchers.
It was late when I left Myna’s, so I hurried home. No time left to see if the bard was still there. I’ll have to look for him another day.

Today my egg was exposed to many new sights and sounds. It was exposed to lively music and dancing in the marketplace. You might say it even danced today. I was wearing it in a shoulder bag as I danced, spinning around with the children.
The egg was also exposed to Miyna and her baking. If you’ve never had to chance to visit Miyna when she has something cooking in the oven, you’re missing a real treat. Today she was baking almond cookies. I placed the egg next to a plate of almond cookies that were fresh out of the oven. I’m hoping the dragon will like almond cookies as much as I do.

The ‘Potions and Notions Shop’ was on my to do list today. I needed components for a spell I'm practicing. When I arrived, there were several customers in the shop. The shopkeeper spotted me and motioned me over to the counter. He was curious about my bag so I took out the egg to show him. He asked to hold it and I told him about why I was carrying it with me. He handled the egg with great interest, but he seemed rather skeptical that it would amount to much. He said he didn’t think it would hatch at all.
His assistant was standing nearby measuring out some fairy dust for another customer. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see him making faces and wrinkling up his nose as he poured the fairy dust into a bowl. All of a sudden, he erupted with a huge sneeze. Fairy dust blew everywhere. Some of it settled on my egg that the shopkeeper was still holding. With a frown at his assistant, he admitted that the egg did look a little better being all sparkly with the dust. He handed the egg back to me. I didn’t bother to dust it off. I put it back into its bag, fairy dust and all.
The shopkeeper collected the items that I needed. After taking my payment, he told me that if the egg doesn’t hatch and I wanted to get rid of it, he’d make a fair trade for it. I told him I was sure it would hatch and left the shop.

In a visit to the ‘Potions and Notions Shop’, the egg was not only exposed to fairy dust, it ended up being covered in it. The shopkeeper also handled the egg himself. He voiced concerns that egg might not hatch. Personally, I think he was hoping that I might agree and choose to get rid of the egg. He tried to act nonchalant about the egg, but I could tell he was eager to acquire it. He should probably be watched.
This evening, I met my friend, Darby, at the Wild Rose Tavern. She had some news to share and we decided to make a dinner of it. The egg was sitting on its bag on the table between us. Of course, she heard all about how I got it and what I’d exposed it to so far. We made guesses about what was happening with the other eggs.
Some older boys were getting rowdy in an argument about whose horse was faster. One stood up and challenged the other to a horse race. Well, the mistake was in standing up. The other one jumped up and took a swing at the first one. After that they were all over the place, throwing punches and falling over tables and chairs. One of them crashed into me and the mug of ale in my hand went flying. It bounced on the table and spilled ale all over my egg. I was so upset. I’m sure it did the egg no harm, but the bag was going to need a long soak in sweet salts to get the ale smell out of it.
My friend was laughing so hard she almost fell off the bench. She said my dragon was going to be stealing away to visit taverns when it grew up because I gave it a taste of ale before it was out of the egg. I told her to not even suggest such a thing. I dried off the bag the best I could and the barkeep threw the lads out in the street to continue their ‘discussion’. We were able to finish our meal quietly after that.

I was in the kitchen helping myself to a late meal. The housekeeper didn’t mind that I helped myself in the kitchen because unlike some of the male lodgers, I always put things back where I got them. As always, I had my egg with me. Some of Semora’s dragons had followed me down to the kitchen. I’m not sure if they were still keeping an eye on me like they did when I was younger, or if they were just hoping for some handouts. I pulled the egg out of its cozy velvet and set it on the table, resting on its bag.
The housekeeper had left a pot with a cloth draped over the top hanging in a corner of the huge fireplace. I lifted the cloth and peeked inside. The kettle held a mound of dough, left to rise in the leftover warmth of the now dead embers. I told the dragons gathered around me that we could expect fresh baked bread tomorrow.
I went to find cheese in the cold box and crackers in the cupboard. I sat down at the table with my snack and open my journal. I looked at my egg to mull over some thoughts before writing them down. To my horror, it was gone. I frantically looked around the room and saw the dragons either perched on the kettle or trying to stand up to look inside. I went to shoo them away and checked the dough to make sure they hadn’t tried to eat it. I found my egg inside on top of the dough. I was so relieved to find that the mischievous pets hadn’t taken the egg very far.
I tried to explain to the dragons that this egg didn’t need to be kept warm for it to hatch. I told them if they left my egg alone and I would share my cheese with them. Not that they could really understand me, but they did understand the offer of food and were very happy with their bribes.
Fishing for the biggest catch had the Lil Devil lake shore crowded with competitors and onlookers. Day campers mingled with overnighters.
The fishing techniques were varied and ranged from using a typical rod and bait to just tossing bait at the fish. Others used a hands-on approach by diving into the water and tackling the fish to shore.
Others that looked to working as a team only appeared that way until they reached the shore and began a tug of war over their catch.
The biggest attraction for young and elder alike was the big metal wini standing chest deep in water to allow his charge to fish safely from his metal rump.
I, the Cheshire Cat, bid you welcome into a place where up is down, left is right, and everything is what you make it. A place where your dreams, or nightmares, become reality and your personal demons come out to play. A place where you can just sit down and have a nice cup of tea, or slice raging monsters to bloody pieces with the weapon of your choice. The name of this place? Wonderland. Be warned though, if you enter this place and lose your way, you just might lose the last bit of sanity you have left…

Strange smells assail your senses. Dragging yourself out of a dream, your eyes open expecting to see your favorite napping spot. The overgrown plants and grassy patch you find yourself in is definitely not where you curled up for a nap. Maybe you're still dreaming. Standing up, you turn towards the gate.
"Oh, don't go that way."
Your head snaps around trying to find the source of the speaker.
"Up here, you silly toad."
Looking up, you see two flowers, one pink and one blue, with faces looking down at you. "I'm not a toad," you reply.
"Maybe not just yet," said the blue, sour-faced flower, in a voice similar to the one that had called you a toad to begin with.
"Oh, don't listen her," said the pink flower in a sweeter voice. "Going through the gate is where you want to go."
"Nope, only trouble that way," grumbled the blue flower. "Go the other way."
Looking in the other direction, you see a faint path leading into what would have looked like an untidy garden if seen from a higher vantage point.
Do you... A. Take the pink flower's suggestion and head towards the gate? B. Take the blue flower's suggestion and head towards the untidy garden?
The tea tasted lovely! Very warm and relaxing. So relaxing you feel a little sleepy. A nap wouldn't hurt. Just a little rest before you continue on your way.
You lay down for nap, but when you wake up, you are back where you originally laid down for a nap.
Alas, your journey to Wonderland ends here.

The cupcake was delicious, but it had a little extra flavor to it. Something you've heard about, something you might have tasted before.
You begin to feel a little strange, sort of itchy all over. Little nubs appear all over your body. Some staying small, some growing to points and sprouting leaves.
Now you remember what it was you tasted. Mutation Potion! Someone spiked the cupcakes! Mutation Potion changes are supposed to be permanent. But this is a dream, this can't be true!
You dash away from the table hoping to escape the Mad Tea Party and it's dastardly effects. Behind you hear maniacal laughter. .

In your mad (Yes, we're all mad here!) dash to get away from the tea party, you burst through a hedge and find yourself on an over-sized chessboard. There looks to have been a game in play. The chess pieces, larger than you are, are sitting in random places on the board.
You notice that the itching has stopped and when you look, the nubs and leaves are gone too. Well, maybe not Mutation Potion, but those cupcakes were spiked with something. Relieved, you start looking for a way past the chess pieces and off this game board.
"Your move!"
The voice startles you and you look up to see a green gem, orange eyes and a toothy smile grinning down at you.
"If you want to move on, you must make a move here first." A. Do you choose the Knight? B. Do you choose the Bishop?

ADVENTURE PROMPTS: Pick one of the below adventures. Start a new thread in the roleplaying section of this guild, and follow the directions below the spoilers!
Gathering wood:
Your kin decides to help venture out into the swamplands in search of relatively dry wood that they can bring back to keep the bonfire burning hot and strong -- a blaze that can keep the party going for days.
To head out on this adventure: Roll 1d6, and roleplay out your kin finding the item that corresponds to your roll: 1 - Small twigs and items that will be good for spreading and lighting fire. +1 point 2 - Oh no! Wet wood! You can't bring this back. 3 - A small log. You can easily carry it by balancing it on your back, if you go slowly. +2 points 4 - A large log. It is too big to carry back! If you're doing this quest alone, you must abandon it. If you're with someone else, +4 points each! 5 - Oh no! You step into a big puddle on your way back and lose your wood. -1 point 6 - A great leafy branch! You can carry it in your teeth. +4 points
Continue rolling and replying until you have a total of 10 points! Once you have acquired 10 points, please post a link to this adventure in the bonfire guild thread to collect 1 raffle ticket.
Each person must collect 10 points themselves for a ticket
Finding Food:
Your kin decides to find some food to bring back to the bonfire, to feed those hungry others gathered around the blaze. The advice is to stay close enough that the fire never goes out of their sight, but if you choose to venture farther, that's on you!
To head out on this adventure: You must search three times to complete the task, either in the same area or different ones! Pick from the above selections and follow the instructions contained within:
Fruit Grove
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find! 1 - The trees seem to have gone barren in this particular grove. You find only a solitary apple, dried out. You leave empty handed. 2 - You find a bush heavily laden with blackberries, and manage to break of an arm to carry back for a fruity feast. 3 - The pear trees are in full fruit. You fill your own belly, and then bring back what you can carry. 4 - Pomegranates! They look red and plump, but when you bring them back into the light, it turns out they're infested with worms.
Hunting Grounds
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find! 1 - You follow some squirrel tracks in soft mud. You don't find the beasts, but you do find their acorns for fall. Yum! 2 - For a moment, this seems to be prime hunting grounds. Then you step into someone else's trap and realize they've already been claimed... 3 - You're fairly certain you hear a lynx's furious growl through the underbrush. Best to steer clear. 4 - Carefully, you set some traps and manage to capture a fat prize. This will be a fine feast!
Down by the Water
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find! 1 - The water hasn't frozen over yet, and you see fish slithering not too far down. If you're quick, you can catch one! 2 - There are some thick reeds near the waterfront that are sweet and tasty, if a bit stringy. You can bring those back for the feast. 3 - Frogs! You're distracted chasing one that is very brightly colored through the shallow water and forget to search for goodies to bring back. 4 - As you lean in over the water's surface, you see eyes staring back at you. You don't actually see the caiman, but it frightens you enough to run off.
Quiet Clearing
Roll 1d4 and match your roll to see what you find! 1 - You slip on some slick grass and twist an ankle. For the rest of this thread, you'll have a bit of a limp. 2 - The area is heavy with flowers, and you're fairly sure they're edible. They're tasty, anyway! You bring a bundle back with you. 3 - Someone has planted some radishes and gourds in this area. You can either take them, or leave them for whoever put the effort in. 4 - It's dry and quiet and you decide that, instead of scavenging, you'll just take a little nap. You have a brief, disjointed dream.
Continue choosing, rolling, and replying, until you've searched at least 3 times! Once you have searched 3 times, please post a link to this adventure in the bonfire guild thread to collect 1 raffle ticket.
Each person must search 3 times themselves for a ticket
A Bit of Entertainment:
Someone needs to stay near the bonfire and make sure everyone's having a good time, and by golly, that's going to be you. There are all kinds of tasks around to help keep the party running smoothly, so take your pick and have at!
To head out on this adventure: There are no dice! Simply pick one of the following tasks and RP completing it however you'd like.
1 - Someone has to keep an eye on the young'uns and make sure no one gets too close to the fire. Make sure they're healthy and happy however you see fit.
2 - There's a cry among the crowd for someone to sing or dance. You're feeling confident in your abilities -- or confident enough -- that you decide to take up the well-lit space yourself.
3 - All these goodies have been brought back, but what of them? Someone has to prepare them nicely! You cook up or pass out some of the food that has been scavenged for the party.
4 - Did someone say DRINKS? There's a barrel of fermented fruits, far enough from the fire that it won't light up, and you need to dole it out to adventurous kin -- but make sure that no one has too much.
5 - YOUR CHOICE! Make up a scenario yourself related to a problem found around the bonfire that you then solve.
You can do more than one scenerio; this adventure is finished once you have hit 500 words! Once you have hit 500 words, please post a link to this adventure in the bonfire guild thread to collect 1 raffle ticket.
Each person must hit 500 words themselves for a ticket

Sauntering up to the gate, you look for traps and don't see any. It looks safe enough. Stepping through, your paw snags on a vine growing along the ground. Losing your balance, you hear a grumbling voice mutter, "Told you so" as you land on the other side of the gate. Sitting up, you find yourself back in the same spot where you originally had settled down for nap. Only now you find scraps (10) lining your little nest.
Strolling through the overgrown garden is pleasant enough. Sweet scents from flowers grown taller than yourself. Coziness from the plants towering so tall they block most of the sunlight. The Bandersnatch stops and watches you walk away as you pretend he doesn't exist. Disappointed, he turns and sadly walks back the way he came because you didn't want to play with him.
