Raven has good HP and defense as well as decent dodging. He's kind of an Ike-ish all-around good unit. I'm pretty sure he has bad resistance though.

I don't like Guy much. I've used the Arena Abuse method many times to get him up to 20 Swordmaster the first chance I get, but he still seems to suck for me. He was good while the enemy was levels below him, but then he couldn't stand a chance to them later on.

Ah, Arena Abusing.
Arenas really aren't friendly to Knights like Oswin... you either get magical opponents or opponents with ridiculously powerful weapons who can double you. So it'd be fair to say that Knights are harder to train than most other units. (Raven, on the other hand, never seems to lose. Ever.)

I don't have the patience for Arena Abusing. Why not just PLAY the game? It's not impossible or overly difficult without the arena.
But I suppose I'm a very impatient Fire Emblem player. -Does the unit come late and require a lot of effort to become good? Drop em. -Does the unit cost a ton of gold to use *cough*Farina*cough* or promote *cough*Dart*cough*? Drop em. -Is it going to take hours to do when I could actually be playing the game and get a few chapters further? Don't bother. -Can I finish the game more efficiently if I use them without abusing them? Yesh. Granted, I've done the opposite of everything mentioned. But after so many playthroughs, I find things unecessary.

Yeah, once you get experience with the game, you know what to expect, so you don't need arenas as much.
Dart's not expensive to promote if you find the Ocean Seal in Nabata. It's right in the lower right corner, too. He's the only one who needs it.
His Con sucks for an axe-wielder, though. Why he starts with a Steel Axe when everything can double him that way is beyond me.

I don't know why everyone says Guy sucks, he was amazing for me in my first playthrough. D: Killed everything, that boy did.
...He's not as great in the one I'm doing NOW, though, but he's not terrible...
Raven: NOT-LORD!HECTOR WITH RED HAIR OH MY GOD
Kent and Sain: GO GO POWER PALADINS
Canas: All hail purple hair and monocle~
I also love all the other unpromoted mages. :> I love me my mages~

By just not using Dart, I can sell it for 25k gold without ever having to go to the arena (same with the Fell Contract). That beats the arena for gold any day. And it's even more valuable in a ranked run for the added 50k to the funds rank when you choose not to sell it. 3nodding -That's my logic for it at any rate.

Arai Himura Well yeah, that's why there's favoritism, and you can do it with any character to make them good. Sorta like how you have to kiss Nino's a** for her to become good. I do that all the time. I'm at stage 17, and Matthew's already level 20. He's a beast. He can kill just about anybody. And I haven't even promoted him yet.

Matthew can kill anybody? Thief-with-just-20-speed-to-his-name Matthew? That Matthew? You're sure he's really that strong?

When he's overleveled? Yes. He has Lyn mode to help too. Later on when enemies start catching up... not so much.

25k is nothing if you arena abuse. I once abused everyone(even Oswin) and ended up with 300k. I never had money problems needless to say.

300k? And I thought I abused the hell out of them... I think my worst is about half that.
I think Legault's a little better than Matthew, actually. If I recall, he has better Con and seems to be more able a fighter.
FE7's hard mode is ridiculous with arenas. I once started abusing the arena in Linus' chapter with Heath? Everything was going well, then a mage comes along. Pow, pow, Heath's dead, and I didn't even get a chance to quit. I wouldn't mind recruiting some of those arena units instead, I tell you what...
Come to think of it, you don't get many prepromotes in this game that suck, do you? You have... Isadora (who just doesn't come in at that useful a time), Karla, and Renault (who I think is the worst FE character ever, at least in terms of usefulness).

I forget. Can Assassins open chests and doors with lockpicks, or can't they?

Yes, but Jaffar can't steal. (I don't know if Matthew or Legault can steal)
