Sharifu didn't get a chance to laugh at her trying to explain what the argument was about, his attention was on the approaching storm outside. He stood up shortly after she did, and waited to see what she decided about the weather. When called out, he jogged out and turned to look off to where she looked.

"Wow," he commented, squinting and trying to estimate how long it would be before it rained, "We could really use the rain, too." And, of course, thunder and lightning were pretty cool. When they didn't cause much damage, anyway.

Auri nodded, eying the dark rain clouds with a wary eye. "As much as we can use the rain, I hope its just that. As neat as thunder and lightning are, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm a bit easily frightened by thunder. Especially when its really really loud." Her ears flicked back onto her head, the only physical proof that she was embarrassed she would allow for herself.

"Other than that, though, I love playing in the rain. Weird, I know. But I don't think it'll be more than five minutes 'til that rain hits us here."

Sharifu looked from the sky to Auri when she started her sentence with 'as much as..'. It wasn't necessarily a good sign that she really was interested in the rain. He couldn't help but smile when she admitted to being afraid of thunder. It wasn't too surprising, it always seemed to him that you either loved it or hated it.

"Don't be embarrassed," he said reassuringly, "At least if it is a storm then it doesn't last long- and you have me here. And I like the rain too, if it's just rain we can be weird together." He grinned.

"Yeah, that's true," she agreed. The last syllables of her reply were joined by another rumble of thunder, this time louder and closer. Not a good recipe for a lioness who was scared of such a thing.

But she did smile at Sharifu in thanks for the reassurance. "Thanks. Now I know that we can be weird together if it just rains. If not, I can't promise anything, though." Her heart skipped a beat--in the bad way--when a crack sounded through the savannah.

Sharifu looked up at the sky briefly at the first crack of thunder before looking back at Auri with a smile when she thanked him- and her reaction to the next roll of thunder was enough to make even him a bit uneasy. He liked thunder and lightning himself, and he was sure some of his siblings didn't like it- but being with someone who really didn't like it, he noticed, made him almost uneasy too. Uneasy on her behalf, anyway.

"Looks like it's not just rain," he pointed out.

Auri twitched a little bit at a third, even fourth bout of thunder to roll in from overhead. She could see from her sitting position that the clouds were growing darker and moving much faster than she liked. The wind picked up, blowing leaves and loose grass around them, along with a few handfuls of dirt. Her eyes squinted to almost-closed so she wouldn't get anything in them.

"I think I might go back into the den when it starts raining, honestly," she said loudly. "You can stay out if you want to, but I'm not that brave." Her paw unconsciously slid toward the den, almost needing the security it held as well.

Sharifu watched her, noting that she was at least brave enough to stay outside through more than the one crash. He watched her, not entirely sure what he could say until she spoke up, very loudly, saying that she was going to go back to the den.

"Don't be silly," he said, jumping up to walk along with her, "Let's go, we can wait it out in the den. I'm not just going to leave you alone when it's storming." Well, he would if she insisted persistently, but otherwise she was stuck with him.

He leapt ahead a bit to stand by the opening of the den.

Oh, he read her mind perfectly. Auri gave a small smile of relief at his suggestion and quickly walked after him, passing through the mouth of the den and into the dry, safe area they had only just occupied. Not a moment after she had sat on the firm floor then another loud rumble sounded followed by the light patting of the first drops of rain. And then it all came down in a gentle downpour.

"Thank you," she repeated. She blinked until her eyes adjusted, then focused in on where he stood at the mouth. He must have slipped inside just as she passed him, for if he had been a second too late, he would be standing there soaked.

Sharifu's tail was not quite caught up with the rest of his body, and he jumped a bit in surprise when his tail was very suddenly struck by rain. They got inside just in time, he noticed as he swayed his tail to get the rain off of it, wrinkling his nose in slight distaste before looking back to Auri with a small smile.

"Just missed it," he said, turning and taking a seat beside her and watching the rain fall.

Auri laughed at Sharifu's facial expression when his tail was suddenly caught in the cold rain. She couldn't help it; his face was full of shock in such a comical way. She giggled lightly as he sat down next to her, and she glanced at the poor wet appendage.

"Aww," she cooed teasingly, using her own tail to try and pat his at least somewhat-dry. After a moment of trying and failing at the task, she stopped, but left hers on top of his absentmindedly. From the safe, warm, and dry distance, her gaze fell on the outside and watched the rain for a moment or two.

Sharifu couldn't help but make a face at Auri when she teased him about his reaction to his tail getting wet, and watched as she tapped his tail with her own to help dry it a bit. And then he was smiling again. He didn't say anything and looked to watch the rain with her, listening to the thunder and as time passed trying to determine if it was getting farther away, hoping the storm would be over quickly- though it was nice just sitting here.

Auri saw him watch the rain as well from the corner of her eye and her teasing grin softened. He was growing on her, and he kept coming closer and closer. The thunder gave a sudden, unexpected roar and the lioness jumped, reflexively moving closer to Sharifu. She hated that she was so scared of the loud noises, but he didn't seem to mind so much. She probably should have warned him beforehand that she would use him as a shield. Oh well.

Expecting exactly what happened, Sharifu was not surprised when Auri moved closer. With a reassuring smile he shifted himself a bit so that he was more between Auri and the outside. There wasn't a whole lot to say now, the thunder was loud enough and watching the rain between thunderclaps was surprisingly mesmerizing.

Although as soon as he moved closer, the storm began to wane a bit, leaving the area and moving on to another to terrorize. Auri lifted her head a little to glance outside and the soft, falling rain, and blinked. It really was a flash-thunderstorm.

"Well, that was rather quick," she murmured, realizing the close proximity between them and quickly moving away. She hadn't meant to scoot so close. She mumbled an apology about it and busied herself with her paws.

Paying attention but allowing his mind to wander just enough, it seemed that the rain stopped in the blink of an eye. He sighed when he realized that the rain stopped, and looked over to Auri- just as she commented and jumped away. He smiled sheepishly, not knowing how else exactly he should react.

"Told you it'd be over quick if it was a thunderstorm," he said with a smile.
