Gavin smiled, feeling a little bit better.
" I know what you mean. I was the worst trouble-maker when I was a youngling." He chuckled at a memory.
" I set a pair of fire-toads on my nursemaid once. They were young, so all they did was spit sparks. She deserved it though, the old harpy." He smirked, as his nursemaid had actually been half harpy. Coerced, but she was a bit harsh all the same.
" My parents weren't all that attentive, though my mum tried to spend as much time with me as she could. My dad didn't, but that's to be expected in such a world." He frowned slightly, though his lips tilted back into a smile as he thought of his beautiful mother, whom he looked like more than his father.

"Fire-toads are a surly bunch, they are," she said, actually speaking from experience of speaking with a few herself. "Tempers like anything and then they set to screaming like a kettle when they don't get their way." Fern realized it must have been lost on an elf, but who was she to know?

He let out a short laugh.
" I know exactly what you mean. It took an hour atleast of coaxing for them to come with me for the moment, and another to not try to burn my hands. The result was worth it, though." He smiled at her, knowing full well what a kettle was.
" So, why were you flitting around the chandelier, before?" He asked, the light of mirth in his eyes.

A sheepish, yet absolutely mischievous expression came over her as she shrugged her shoulders in a small tinkling laugh.
"Just flying and finding cobwebs... then you came in, and I was watching you." the last part required a bit of courage to come out with, but Fern couldn't really lie.

He smirked and examined himself in a comical way.
" Well, I suppose I am watch-worthy." He winked at her, before laughing and putting his arms back down to his sides. He hadn't expected his first day at the Academy to include talking to a gorgeous fairy, though things didn't usually go as he expected them to.
" So, why did you come here?" He asked, meaning the school.

"Look at you, fussing over yourself," she laughed. "Your not a peacock, but a raven, judging by your hair." Fern was so tempted to muss it up, but she was still wary of contact on such a casual basis when she wasn't sure of how he'd take it.
"But why'd I'd come here? My parents wanted me to spend some time in the mortal world, to get to know some humans and know how they are. I also want to study a bit of healing practices, since I've got a knack for it." Her little fingers were given a wiggle to suggest a magic touch of sorts. "Why are you here?"

" Because my father didn't want a son who didn't follow orders in the public eye." He rolled his eyes.
" But its not so bad. The campus is beautiful, and I didn't think I'd get to chat with a gorgeous faerie on my first day here." He winked at her eyes, pleased by the blush on her cheeks.

"You're a charmer, aren't you?" Fern's cheeks were two circles of red that she quickly made subside. "Well, I didn't imagine an elven noble wanting to spend time knowing a wee fae. Though with the way we met, I'm hard to ignore." Again she giggled at the memory.
Feeling a bit tired from her flying and flitting, Fern took out a small bag of fae sweets from her pocket. A bonus to them not only being specially made for the tastes of the fae was that they were magicked to shrink with them for flight. She held out a sugary concoction to Gavin. "Would you like one? They might have a bit of a kick for you." A sugar-high elf would be a sight to see.

" Al..right." He took it with a bit of apprehension, before popping it into his mouth. His lips twisted into a firm line, before twisting again as if he had eaten something sour.
" I see you like sugar." He said, pushing the sweet into a side of his mouth. He was doing his best to ignore the sideeffects of the sugar.

Fern began laughing so hard that her eyes teared up for a moment. Once she recovered, she apologized for it.
"We need it so we can keep flying about! Think of a hummingbird." She popped another in her mouth thoughtfully. "It's just a whole lot of sugar in one bite. You might crash, but I'll tend to you if you get sleepy." Fern wondered if Gavin would feel a bit of a sugar buzz from just one piece.

He shook his head in a rapid fashion, trying not to let the sugar get to him.
" Wow...that's potent." He said after it dissolved in his mouth.
" That would explain how peppy and bright you are." He ment it as a complement, of course.

Again her laughter filled every corner. "I can be sad, you know. Just not now, not when I'm making a new friend!" Fern beamed at him before realizing she had never properly asked if he'd like to be just that. "You would like to be friends, right, Gavin? Nothing against the idea?"

" I wouldn't have it any other way, Fern, m'dear." He winked at her and brushed his palms together to get rid of the sugary dust on them. He loved to hear her laugh, it was so uplifting.

"Wonderful!" Suddenly Fern jumped to her feet and took his hands in hers, trying to pull him to his feet. "Then we have to get out of this stuffy place and go outside! Ooh, and to see your hair shine in the sun like on the back of a raven! That we have to see. It's almost like mine, but really black and not dark, dark, dark brown." It seemed she was never out of words to say.

Gavin smiled when she wrapped her hands around his and went with her willingly.
" Lead me on then, fair maid. My life is in your hands." He winked at her.
" Anywhere you'd like to take me?" He asked as they stepped outside. He ruffled his hair, smiling at his lovely new friend.
