The thing I hate the most would be:
People who claim to be phans (and has only seen the 2004 movie) And then when the name Erik comes in, they go "Who's Erik?" eek scream

Phantom Phan 4ever PhantomoftheFox Things that annoy me: 1) Phangirls that insist the 2004 movie is the quintessential POTO when they've never seen anything else. 2) Drive by phanbrat attacks on message boards... where someone will just pop in and say, 'I LOVE PTO SOOOOMUCH THE PAHNTOM IS OMGSO HAWT!!!!1', and then never come back. 3) Phantwits who just like Phantom because Gerard Butler is attractive. 4) People who claim to be Phans, but hate one of the main characters. 5) Raoul bashers. 6) Christine bashers. 7) People who call Raoul a fop. cool Authors that pair Erik up with a Mary Sue or a self insert. *pins 'Raoul loving Leroux purist and proud of it!' pin on chest* I actually read the book and was like "wow, I love Erik" I do have to admit GB is attractive, but I was annoyed at the "deformity". It was poorly done. I agree, but I saw the movie first, but, I was determined to like Phanboy in Leroux's book, because I was driven... 4laugh and besides, Raoul seems really stupid in the book.. Gb is hot tho, and i'm driven to the Phantom, but I like him because he's suffering and just needs someone to love him, and because he can be passionate!

Phantom Phan 4ever Phantoms girl I thought he was hot w/o his mask 2! I'm a phan of everything phantomy! Um.... I used 2 spell it Eric, but that's be4 I read poto from Leroux. I hate how different Raoul is in the movie from the book, sure he's better in movie, but he's too good and how they forgot the Persian. Erik was close 2 book. Ditto Christine. Madame Giry is somewhat different...... I like more in movie...... Yes, I admit the mask makes him look uber sexy. But i prefer him without. As for the 'eric' thing, as long as you learned the proper spelling and its even better that you learned it from the book. Thankx, I thoght people would jump down my throats 4 admitting I didn't know how to spell it, but I had not read the book, and the first page, I agree with MindlessSoul on Raoul and Erik, besides,It seems Raoul only liked Christine cuz she was beautiful, could sing and was a childhood friend, she could have changed during childhood!

Out of the options, my biggest pet peeve would probably be:
5. People that ask: "Is there a book?"
How can anyone look at The Phantom of the Opera and wonder whether or not there is book, when every other movie made nowadays is based off of a [comic]book or is made as a modernized fairy tale? It is a classic horror novel, and asking such an idiotic question would be the same as questioning whether or not Dracula or Frankenstein had books with their movies.
Sort of on that note, to add to it, I hate it especially whenever someone considers Phantom a "chick flick." Yes, there is a lot of focus romance, but there is also death, violence, tragedy, deformation, mystery, a supposedly haunted theatre, a "monster"---it is "classic horror," and it means so much more to be known as classic horror when you have read the book and beyond that, understand the movie to its fullest extent.
Those supposed "phans" that have just seen the movie with no regards to the book, who look at only the tip of the iceberg instead of digging deeper, to where all they see is romance and a love that can never be with no regards to anything else, just drive me insane to no end. I regret to say, I had to educate a few of my friends in this respect.

Absolutly Youko, as my favorite line(s) in the book state:" He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world; and in the end he had to content himself with a cellar. Surely we may pity the Opera ghost!" Those two sentences sum up the entire essence of Erik as I see it. His deformity was as much part of his character as it was part of his story, they are one and the same, the phantom and his deformity (can we say 'pathos'?).
