I used to stand up, but not put my hand over my heart or say the pledge, but in the last few years I've stopped standing and just stop talking during the pledge. The "under god" part is annoying to me, but I mostly don't say the pledge because I don't want to pledge allegiance to something that I don't believe in or support. It'd be a lie.

An interesting thought popped up the other day. What if we rewrote the pledge to be better suited to modern times?
It might go something like this:
"I pledge Allegiance, to the Flag and the growing waist-lines of America To this consumer republic, for which we sit One nation, under ignorance and stupidity For liberty and justice for some."
Does anyone else a better one?

I pledge allegiance to the United States of America, and to the republic, one nation indivisible and with justice for all.
Remove the part about the flag and God and you're good to go.
I NEVER EVER EVER say the under God part. That makes me so mad-- they have school children all over the world reciting it! SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, PEOPLE?!
