Aquene knew she was fighting a losing battle as she both felt and heard the deadly mare gaining on her, heard her panting breaths, and the angry call that pierced the night's silence. She could see the beginning dawn's rays cutting through the indigo sky ahead, and knew sunrise wasn't that far off... but it didn't appear that she would last until then.
A loud cry of pain escaped her as she felt Amaya's razor-sharp teeth rake across her hide, opening two deep gashes and spilling warm blood onto the ivory fur, and she knew... she knew that she wouldn't last long like this.
Golden eyes burned as the memory of a warm crimson stallion flooded her thoughts, unshed tears carried away by the wind as she realized that she would never lay eyes upon him again, never watch the sunset by his side, never tell him that... that...
Another cry of agony, this one louder, rang shrilly through the gentle breeze as a powerful jaw latched onto her left wing. She could feel the bones creaking under the strain, feel the blood drip onto the ground many feet below, and feel the wind vanish from under her wings as she began to fall. A shrill scream tore from her mouth as Amaya clenched her jaw, and the bones gave with a nauseating 'crunch!'
A black haze settled along the outsides of her vision, and she cried out in pain and desperation, barely aware of the name that her lips formed as she dropped like a stone from the sky to meet her death on the ground below.
"BELIAL!"
