Death penalty is just vengeance, not justice. Plus it's plain stupidity. Let them criminals suffer for what they did. Let them work harder than ever for the good of the society that they offended with their deeds. Killing them in as much huminatrian way as possible (and that's what's happening in those more civilized countries that still hold the death penalty) is not the way to go.
So, prison sentences are perfect. The only thing is that - if you comitted a serious crime you MUST be forced to work heavily. Dig trenches or whatever is needed, like build anti-flood barriers at river banks. Whatever.
Why we can't do this and why we give them a bed, three meals a day and health service I don't really understand.

Kacisko is right. Killing them outright is letting them get off easy. We need to make them work as hard as they ******** can for the rest of their lives.
Either that or in all honesty I think we should bring out torture again for the really serious crimes like mass murder or terrorism.

Hell, building highways pays a good 30$ an hour here ninja which minimum wage is 8. Another thing, if you choose to commit a criminal act, you have hence forth, givin up your right as a free living human being. Why not skip the middle man, and cut out the living part. Also, the whole basis of "Justice" began with an eye for an eye ( I.E Hamurabi's Code) the first written lawbook, ever. Justinians everywhere, would agree, that a 10% markup of both Canadian and American dollars, would also be a bonus to scrapping the imprisonment acts, and reinstating the death penalty, but would also, disclude the "Oh we messed up sorry" (I.E David Milgard, of whom I have actually met) I say, kill em all, let god sort em out. -Peace.

Not all countries are as rich as US and Canada blaugh Believe me, it would be much much cheaper for us here in this country to send these guys to pay off their deeds through hard work than just kill them. I'd rather pay $50 to one guard instead of $150 to five highway constructors. Cheaper (and quicker - I want these highways!). Let's ask us one major question - why do we put these guys in prison or kill them? The answer is: because we want to eliminate them from the society, because we (the society) believe they are too dangerous to be members of this society. We don't want them to do this again to anybody of us. And today, with such technology as there is, we really can keep these guys where we want to keep them. No need to kill them for the sake of elimination from the society. If we want to be better than them, why do we kill them? Because that's what the law says? Or because we want to get rid of a problem? And really, let's forget about 'punishment' or 'justice'. These are sweet words to soap some eyes. We simply eliminate these guys. But, elimination doesn't mean we have to kill them. You know "A song of ice and fire" saga by George R. R. Martin and one of the characters, Eddard Stark? "If you sentence someone to death, be a man and kill him yourself"

I'm just saying if we set up rules like that, and put a person in charge who has a few "ideas" how things should be done, it could eccalate. Our prison system is already a big jumbled mess. We really need to re-work that, then put the naughty do-ers to work.

I can't even express how messed up that really is.... My friend wore a belt buckle from WWII to school that had the Swastika held in the eagle's claw to school, and we went to a Christian school. I NEVER understood how he thought it was cool or how he could even put it on. He hated the movie The Believer because the guy was a Jewish Neo-Nazi. Sometimes the human race fails. He failed. How ANYONE things Nazi Germany is cool, that Hitler was cool, Nazis are cool is absolutely beyond me. How is genocide cool? Sometimes I wonder why in the first place I ever decided to becomes friends with him. He's one of the sweetest guys (to a point) but wow.
