Mal came within earshot of the motley crowd in time to catch the majority of the wyvern's barrage of questions. "Whoa, there, mile-a-minute," she chuckled, her contralto voice slightly lilting, "give 'em time to answer the first before you throw out five more, eh?" She guessed from the tone and type of questions that he, too, was unfamiliar with most of the Painters here, which made her feel a bit better. If this was a chance meeting, rather than, say, a planned gathering of villagers, she wouldn't be intruding quite so much by her presence. Still, better safe than sorry.

"Sorry to drop in uninvited, ladies, gents," she called to the group in general, shifting her weight and bending one foreleg as she swept her wings back in a draconic imitation of a bow, "but I was just passing through the neighborhood and seeing as this is looking more and more like a proper shindig, I thought perhaps the old meet'n'greet was in order. Malachite, that'd be me." Tilting her head slightly in an inquisitive manner, she added with slightly more hesitance, "Er, I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

Alvilda eyed the Wyvern, not entirely certain she liked his rapid-fire questions. While she was certain he meant no harm by it, she felt like she was being interrogated, an experience she rather disliked.

“ We Merdracs swim plenty fast, ‘n though we c’nnot fly, we have other abilities.” As she spoke, her body briefly changed colors, crudely imitating the Wyvern.

Having decided that the Wyvern did not merit talking to, Grendel instead focused his attention on the conversation, not wishing to look inattentive.

“ I can sympathize, in a way. My sanity suffers in her presence,” here he flicked a tail at Alvilda,” and I find myself craving more enjoyable company. My companion, normally a welcome distraction, has been absent as of late. I fear that the dreadful two-leg she’s so abnormally fond of may have finally eaten her.”

When Alvilda heard the green newcomer speak, her lips parted in a toothy grin. ‘ Now this ‘un I like.

“ T’ain’t no need for ‘pologies Missus Malachite. The more the merrier, or so-es dey say. I’m Alvilda, and over yonder is Grendel.”

Nashwa siddled a little farther away from the overenthusiastic wyvern and his barrage of questions. She shook her head as if to clear the air around her of his inquiries. Someone would answer him, but it wouldn't be her.

Her gaze briefly flitted in the direction of Grendel's flick towards the merdrac. She gave a little snerk and shook her head slowly. "Well, you have the option of switching it up some. If I recall properly, you have a den mate or two, plus whom ever you meet. If I want to mix it up, I gotta go in search of company. Few folks come visit me. Very few." She gave a short, soft chuckle, then paused and tipped her head to one side at the talk of the male's human. She glanced over to the wyvern then back to Grendel. "You live with one of them? Huh."

She rolled her shoulders in a bit of a shrug. "My human has been out and away as of late. He said that he would try to bring me something to occupy myself with. I don't know what he's got going on in his head." She rolled her glowing eyes and flashed a bit of a grin.

For a moment, Mal's sharp gold eyes flickered between those assembled, sizing up the situation. She was never sure how to handle large groups like this, so many people to deal with, names and introductions to sort out, courtesy to dictate... The other green 'Painter -- Grendel, she corrected herself mentally, must remember these names -- looked rather engrossed in his own conversation with a female, she wasn't sure what to make of the wyvern, and most of the others were silent for the moment... It seemed safest to simply address the one who'd addressed her. Besides, the brightly colored Merdrac looked to be the friendliest of the lot.

"Alvilda," she repeated, to cement it better in her mind. "Well, I'm nobody's missus yet, and Mal's fine as anything if you like your nicknames short. But thanks kindly for the welcome," she added with a grin. Shifting a bit closer to the water, Mal settled down just at the edge, close enough to talk comfortably; if a couple waves lapped over her hide, they would only be refreshing after a long run, and at any rate the sun would dry her soon enough. "So what brings so many fine individuals together on this lovely day, eh?"

Harly looks at her is absolutely fascinated as she changes colors." That is VERY impressive! How do you do it!" Then noticing the other he turns a sympathetic cheek" I know, I didn't choose the cheeky thing and prefer being without. The only reason I tolerate Quinny is his similar ability to change patterns, or pattern." He gestures to Quinnys harlequin pattern. " Though your owl is impressive. A tad more useful them my rodent. "Quinny lets out an indigent squeak."HUMANS! You people mess with the humans! I never would. I observe from a afar, ALWAYS. Nothing good ever comes from those dreadful parasites." He snorts and settles into his tree. "Though I would like to question some of you later if that is ok for information."

“ Mal, eh? Well, there be no right reason behind this ‘ere gatherin’, ‘less you believe in such things as Fate-”

“ Or mischief.” Interrupted Grendel, throwing Alvilda a half-hearted glare. Though still quite unhappy with her, it would seem that the green male had finally moved on.

“ If you means some light-hearted fun, den yes, dat had its part.” Agreed Alvilda, nodding her head, making Grendel snort. Of course the water pest would see nothing wrong with what she did; how foolish of him to hope she might think otherwise!

“ Live with? Gracious no! I do not live with the horrible two-leg!” Here Grendel’s voice dropped to a murmur,“ There’s something grim about him, something foul, even for a two-leg. I have never seen him, but I have heard him: a voice like death’s whisper and a shriek like winter’s coldest winds! My companion said that his den is littered with bones, some of which she suspects to be bones of our fallen kin.”

A shudder wracked Grendel’s body and he fell silent for a moment. He did not much care for rumors, unfounded or no, but on this subject he felt strongly: the Fell Beast was to be avoided. He was pulled from his dark thoughts by a rustle and faint cackle. Raising his head, he cast a wary eye upon the forest, groaning as he spied an old white tree standing near by.

“ Peace, Telperion! Why must you follow me?”

For a long moment, it seemed as if Grendel’s bemusing query would go unanswered. Then, two startlingly bright blue eyes peered out from the white tree’s trunk, and a crack-like mouth opened in reply.

“ Why, youngling, to watch over you! One that has seen so few moons cannot be left to their own devices.” Alf hooted, then flew to the waiting branch-like arm that the Ent had extended. With a long-suffering sigh, Grendel looked over at Nashwa.

“ Pray your human does not persuade an Ent to “occupy” you.” Despite the exasperation in his voice, Grendel’s eyes told of a grudging respect for the elderly Ent. With that, he looked up at the present two-leg.

“ If it’s information you want, Telperion has all you could possibly want, and maybe more.”

“ 'n if a tree don't be to yer likin', Sayuri has patience e-nuff even for you.”

Harly looks interested at the 'two leg' story. He isn't surprised at the Ent, He had seen them and documented them already. "I hope my human doesn't give out my presence to anybody." Harly scoffs. He turns to Telperion."So you seem to be the one to talk to." He unfurls his wings and lands on the ground with a tap and walks over to the Ent. "How do you do. Now what can you tell me." Harly loves information. He wants his book to inform the world, and maybe save lives he couldn't save before.

Nashwa had to lean in a bit closer to clearly hear Grendel's murmured voice. She didn't like the sound of the two leg that he described. Even for her, he sounded like a being she would want to avoid. She attempted to hid the little shiver that raced down her spine by shaking her head and folding her wings tight to her body. Somewhere, deep in the back of her mind, the description sounded vaguely familiar and lent her a faint echo of sadness and anger.

The gray female blinked and looked about at the sound of a rustle and a cackle of all things. Nash looked back and forth between Grendel and the white tree standing near by. She angled her head to the green male when he addressed it. "Telperion?" She looked back to the aged tree then jumped slightly when a face appeared. She hadn't seen an ent up close before and after being in selcusion for a while it certainly caught her off guard a bit.

Nash gave a little chuckle and lightly used a wing to pat his back. She noted the trace of respect in his eyes, in spite of the irritation in his voice. "I'll be sure to bring it up with him." A familiar shrill whistle came to her ears. She pulled her wing back and looked around. It wasn't long before she spotted the origin of the whistle.

Her human waved to her from some tall brush some ways off. He looked a little haggard, but no worse for wear. He grinned before looking down and making a shooing motion with his hands before a little way of his hand and turning off in the direction of home. She blinked then glached over towards Grendel, Telperion, Harly, then everyone else before looking back to the bushes where her human had stood. There came a rustle and the sound of twigs breaking. A fluffy thing came barreling towards her and skid to a stop in front of her. It was a longhair chimaeve and a flaming salamander peered up at her from behind one of the chimaeve's curved ears.

"Um...how do? Who are you?"

The furry one piped up first. "Grand. I'm Yanai and this is Kenet. We're bound to you now." He smiled and dipped his head. "You human said that he thought you were in need of company, so he brought us to you." The salamander, Kenet, had made his way onto one of Yanai's horns and appeared to be preparing to take a leap at her. She didn't think he would make it so extended her foreleg out for him to climb upon. He did and climbed easily up her arm and sort of draped himself over the joint where her wing met her shoulder. He radiated warmth across her shoulder. It felt different, but nice.

Nash looked over to Grendel, a look of profound surprise and confusion on her features. "Well...I guess I don't have to worry about an ent 'occupying' me then." She gave a light sigh and shook her head. "Well, you two are welcome to stay." She flashed the green male a 'Is this how its supposed to go?' sort of look before looking over the two familiars.
