It was probably a good thing tha Beatrix couldn't see the grin which grew on Jack's face as he carefully spelled the word in question. "I'm sure your mum has a dictionary about, pet."
Ignacio went wide-eyed and flushed a bit under his deep tan. "Maaan," he drawled. "You don't wanna know, Wispy. It's something for adults."

That was worse, because Wisp desperately wanted to be an adult in Ignacio's eyes. "I'm going to go look it up," she said, and ran out the room in search of her dictionary.
"Oh, thank you," drawled Beatrix. "Ta very much, Jack. You can give both of them the Talk, all right? Because you just took that job out of my hands."

"I'll have Da give..." He paused and shook his head. "No, I like 'em all too much. I'll have Mum give it to them. She cleared up the one I got from Da."
Evie looked on, deeply fascinated. "What talk? Is it important? Auntie Bea, do I get the talk too?"

"Yes, of course you do," said Beatrix smoothly, and she gave a sweet, innocent smile of bald satisfaction at Jack. "While Grandma Becca gives you that talk, your father can be in the next room whittling a tiny little stick with a tiny little nail in it."
"Is this the talk about sex?" Jace wanted to know. "Because I know all that already."

"If Shade told you about it, he was lying. If that Lindy character at school told you... She's mad, mate." Jack sent an apologetic look at Bea. Even if she wouldn't see it, he knew she would know it was there.
His words fell on deaf ears when it came to Evie, though, and she began to dance about with excitement in her cup. "Yay! I'll be an adult!"
Ignacio tried to stifle laughter by biting his lower lip but his eyes gave him away.

"She is the sex ed teacher, Jack," Beatrix said wearily.
"I didn't learn it from her, anyway." Jace cracked her knuckles before giving the thumbs-up to Evie busy celebrating in her cup about her burgeoning adulthood. "Shade leaves all his magazines lying around your house."

"Actually, he doesn't." Jack looked amused, nonetheless. "I've already had a talk with him 'bout that an' they stay upstairs."
Evie giggled. "I remember that. You were all whispery, Daddy. All don't put that where the kids can find it and how's this supposed to turn you on." She tilted her head to the side. "I wanted to ask about that. Do you have a button or a light switch, Daddy?"
Ignacio choked and fled to the kitchen where the others could hear him bursting into noisy, delighted laughter. Jack merely sighed, long-suffering.

"So he leaves them lying around upstairs," said Jace, not looking very contrite at all. "So he leaves them lying around in his drawers. So what."
"Jace," said Beatrix, even more wearily, as it was a big effort not to burst out laughing at Evie sometimes, "Jacoba, sometimes you really, really, really do worry me."
"Uncle Jack has a light switch."
"Jace," said her mother, just in case Jace was making a very dirty joke; but Jacoba was just sniggering loudly, following after Ignacio, hands stuck in her pockets. Beatrix groaned.
