Jair pressed closer to Ryu's chest and looked up at him, his expression somewhat distressed.
"You didn't tell me Aunt Feng was scary!" he accused him. "You said she was just like us but we're not scary like that!"
And he curled up in a ball and looked suspiciously at Feng.

"She's not scary.... normally," Ryu reassured Jair, "Feng is just very active normally, which makes me question in why were you acting like we were intruders?"
He had to ask that, it just sounded so weird to him.
"Uhm.... well I don't know... I've been kind of been needing to just be alone for Naida's sake," Feng replied sheepishly, "I haven't been out of this cave since I got her, and I don't really think I should leave just yet."
"Feng...." Ryu murmured, "If you don't she might become as shy as Adonijah, and while the kid is cute... I'd rather she not be terrified of everything."
He would have added more to his feelings on this, but suddenly he felt.... strange like he was stretching only less painful. Well that and his legs as well as Feng's gave out from under them, both twins held the Surprises close to them to protect them from the fall.

Jair wasn't entirely convinced with Ryu's argument, but he watched Feng curiously as she replied to his comments. She did seem to be better now than she had been at first, though ...
Just as he started to feel a little bit comfortable with her, though, something strange started happening. He blinked in surprise as he saw Feng beginning to change - and not just switching between her legs and tail, but a real change - but before he could put his finger on exactly what that change was, he found himself being held close to Ryu's chest and falling towards the ground.
"WHOOOOOOAAAAAAAAA!!!!" he shrieked, curling up into a ball instinctively to protect himself from the fall. "WATCH OUUUUUUUT!"

Ryu fell on his side, which was better than falling on his face for many reasons. He fell with an oof only slightly aware that Naida was squealing in terror. However as quickly as it came, the feeling was gone only leaving Ryu and Feng slightly achy.
He blinked and looked at his sister who had grown longer (something he didn't think possible as they were already tall already). It took him a while to sum up what happened but Naida did it quite nicely for Feng.
"Mama... the pillows on your chest got bigger."

As soon as all motion stopped, Jair cracked one eye open and peered out from between his hands, looking around to see what had happened.
He didn't see anything too different ... not at first anyways. To be fair, it was his first time seeing Feng, still, and he hadn't really seen her clearly before that moment, so he didn't really see anything different about her, and he was sitting on Ryu so he couldn't see the change at first; but then, when Ryu sat up again, he blinked and rolled off Ryu's lap onto the sand.
"Uncle Ryu," he breathed, his tone filled with awe. "What happened?"

"Ah...." Ryu rubbed his arm for a moment to get the ache out, he wondered how tall they were now, that was a curious question, "We grew, it happens to Seconds every once in a while, we grow. Though this should be the last time."
Feng giggled as she rolled onto her back and let her little girl bounce on her stomach, "At least I hope so, I don't think we can get any taller than this."

Jair pulled himself through the sand, bit by bit, until he reached the tip of Ryu's tail, his wings flapping madly as he tried to help himself a long, and from there he turned around and started dragging himself back up again towards Ryu's head, measuring his length.
"You're lots bigger than you were," he announced solemnly after struggling fiercely against the sand for several long minutes. "But that's good because maybe someday I can be big like you and then I can be strong like you."
All of the sand was making him feel dry, though.
"Can we go back in the water?" he asked, flopping his tail against the sand. "It's dry up here and really hard to move around ..."

"Alright," Ryu agreed as he picked Jair up and helped the boy back to the waters.
Feng on the other hand he noticed he put water into Naida's vase and let the little Surprise back in there picking up the vase completely and make her way over further to the beach shore.

Once he was back in the water, Jair started to swim in slow, lazy circles, glancing over his shoulder every now and again to see if Feng and Naida were going to join them. After a few moments had passed and they didn't, he pouted up at Ryu.
"Uncle Ryu, why aren't they coming with us?" he asked in a hurt tone. "Don't they like us?"

Ryu had a funny feeling it had to do with Feng's need to stay in the cave, she simply just wasn't ready to let Naida out of her sight and into the water. Which made him wonder if she was very dry by now or if she snuck in dips when Naida was asleep.
"I think it's a mermaid thing," Ryu murmured, "Naida has to stay there for a bit longer."
Though he wasn't quite sure what was it about the mermaid thing that made Feng do that.
"Mama...." Naida looked up at her mother, "Please.... just for a little little while?"

Jair's brow furrowed as if he were insulted, and he pouted up at Ryu.
"But why?" he asked. "Mommy let me come here, and I'm just new from today! Naida can't be newer than me, can she? Why can't she go in the water? Isn't that where mers belong, even if they're mermaids and not merboys?"
He might be young, but the moment he had fallen into the fountain at their home, he had known that the water was where he was meant to be, where any of their fish-tailed kind were meant to be.
He heard Naida's question to her mother and looked over his shoulder at the two mermaids.
"Can't we play for just a little while?" he called out to his aunt Feng. "I want to play!" And he pouted, jutting out his lower lip and looking over in their direction with his already enormous green eyes wide open, reflecting the light that was coming from the potion bottles.

Feng knew, logically speaking that Ryu was right, she couldn't really stay in the cave anymore, and as much as she loved Aliya's cutie. She didn't want Naida to be that shy. It sort of helped that Jair himself was very much a cutie and doing the puppy dog look very, very well.
She melted, and melted even more when Naida gave her the same look.
"Alright."
"Yay!" Naida held up her hands to be held as her mommy lifted her out of her vase.
Bringing her over to the waters, the little merchild let herself slide from her mother's hands into the cool waters.
Feng took a seat beside her brother, happy to have the whole process of waiting for Naida to come out over.
"You really need to come back with her," Ryu murmured.

Leaving his aunt and uncle to discuss their differences (or whatever it was they were talking about, he really didn't know and didn't much care), Jair jumped in the water and swam over to where his cousin had slipped into the water.
"Oh boy," he grinned as he swam up to her, his eyes still sparkling brightly, "someone to play with who's just as little as me! Can you walk too like Uncle Ryu? I can't but I want to learn!"

Naida giggled at Jair, she couldn't help it, she thought he was kind of funny in his own way. She shook her head at his question though, she rarely saw her mommy on her feet, and as far as she knew... she couldn't make feet neither.
"I can't. Mama says you have to learn it by magic," Naida replied softly.

Jair nodded. "That's what Uncle Ryu says, too," he affirmed, rubbing the birthmark on his left shoulder where he had landed on it the night before. "Before we go back home I want to ask him if he'll take me to see the goddess so that I can learn how, I think it would be really neat."
He paused for a breath before continuing on.
"Plus, I got a whole bunch of brothers and sisters but I haven't met any of them yet but none of them have tails and so they can't come into the water like me but I can't go out of the water like them so I can't really see them very much yet. I'm going to meet most of them when Uncle Ryu goes back home but not all of them because my brother Celebor's not ther-"
He cut himself off, blinking as if he had suddenly just remembered something. Then he held up one finger to Naida to show that he would be right back and swam to the surface of the water, popping his head out to look at his aunt and uncle once more.
"Hey Aunt Feng!" he hollered, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Did you see my brother Celebor? I want to see him but nobody knows where he is!"
