yayness93 Eires heart yayness93 Proudly_Jewish I think it's really sad that Irish (and Celtic langauges in general) are dying. cry We should start a movement to make them popular again! surprised I mean, unless I'm not mistaken, Hebrew was dead for more than a thousand years except for in prayers and the Torah, but it was actually revived by Jewish scholars! So who's to say that we wouldn't be able to revive Celtic languages? I agree! It's so sad! Especially with the wonderful, beautiful Irish language... That about Hebrew is right. Maybe same can happen to Irish, how knows? We must keep hoping. Irish is becomming an official language of the European Parliment in January. We were over in Brussels and Brian Crowleys PA's was telling us about it. Other than that, Irish is pretty much dead. crying Bí ag caint! Yes, I know, that's good. But I can't understand why it didn't became official when Ireland joined the EU... In 1973? Well I suppose it wasn't widely used enough. I mean it's still only used in na Gaeltachtaí, but Udaras na Gaeltachta are doing their bit for the Irish language I suppose. Bí ag caint!

HellsBitch sancort I adore how they say hello "Top of the morning to you" and "lass" Lass is used all over Great Britain, really.
I adore the accent too. One of my friends can speak with the understandable irish accent and I make him do it every time I go see him. Ireland isn't in Great Britain. stare Let me be quite clear about this. The Republic of Ireland is NOT a part of the UK or Great Britain. And none of the regions where Irish is spoken are in Northern Ireland. Donegal is about as close as you'll get. I've got a dictionary to add to the list. Well ... three: 'Foclóir Gaeilge-Béarla' by Ó Dónaill, 'English-Irish Dictionary' by De Bhaldraithe, and last but certainly not least, 'Foclóir Gaeilge-Béarla/Irish-English Dictionary' by Dinneen ... or An Dinneenach as my mother fondly calls him.

I bet we can revive them if we need to. Latin is getting popular again after being kind of revived by the Catholic Church.
I'm Scoth-Irish, but I don't know any Gaelic. gonk I want to learn though. So does my brother. Time to go study! blaugh

No, there's no fada ... although it does look bare without it somehow. I honestly didn't think Irish was an active enough language to be an official language. But apparantly there are 23 official languages now, and 27 member states. Kewlio. mrgreen
