"Looks like a weed." She smiled, leaning against the wall of the Mayfair.

She laughed," Yeah, he blends in with the bushes," she laughed even harder. She started coughing and laughing at the same time. "I'm sorry I'm laughing at your client, Lillian, it's just that I found it funny." She looked over at her friend and smiled.

She laughed. "Hey, he's just a client. No one important." She looked at the boy.

She looked over at her friend. "It's a job anyways, right?" She said solemnly. She took another drag and blew the smoke into the starry night sky. She didn't look down at her friend at all, she just didn't think prostituting is a good choice for anybody, that's why she hardly ever goes into the Mayfair. She doesn't let her thoughts and beliefs ruin a good relationship, she loves people, loves being around them and talking to them.

Lillian looked at Doris. "Its work. It pays well when all you have is a gutter and the clothes on your back."

"I know," she said. She blew out more smoke and looked up at the night's sky. "I love the stars," she told Lillian. "I wish to see them every night, and hopefully they'll never be covered." She took one last drag, and tossed the cigarette butt on the ground and stepped on it with her foot.

"Hm, we should go into Downtown tomorrow, you know and have some fun with the boys," Doris Jane said deviously. She always loves flirting with the men in Downtown, it gives her something to do before the Mayfair's speakeasy opens every night.

"Sounds good." She put out her cigarette. "Now I have to escort Greenie back to the bar. Maybe John can deal with him."

She laughed,"Yeah, maybe." She went over and helped Lillian with her new client, helping him down the basement stairs. The doorman opened the door, recognizing them, he nodded and winked, Doris Jane nodded and winked back.
((Oh, I posted something on the first page... it was the post that said OPEN in large letters... I'm gonna post more in it tomorrow. biggrin ))

The boy groaned. "Not on the shoes." Lillian whispered to him. He nodded, turning less green as they went down. ((Cool!))

His car rolled down the old street, creaking from age as he moved along. Charles took out his pocket watch and looked at the time, and saw he was extremely late. "Gah, damn competition! Making me late with having to shoot them for my damn delivery." He shook his hand at a driver who had had one too many drinks that night, who was swerving around the street. "Damn drunk drivers!" He stopped his car in the back behind ginty's bar and looked around to make sure no one was around. All he was was lillian and doris helping someone downstairs. "Great, another drunky that'll I'll have to clean after tommorrow." He grabbed one of the barrels from the back and started downstairs.

She heard something large coming down the stairs. Must be tomorrow's shipment she thought. She let Lillian take care of her drunken weed client and went back outside. She saw Charles with a barrel of his shine. "Charles! So good to see you!" She hugged him and pecked his cheek; this was how she greeted most people. She helped him load the barrels into the storage room. "How's about grabbing a quick drink?" She asked him.

Joe watched the theatrics of the kid and some guy. He had seen Doris a few times, but mostly he dealt with her dad. Joe lit a cigarette and took a puff before crossing the street to the underground bar. Making his way casually to the bar, he asked for a shot of whatever whiskey they may have had in. He looked up at the ceiling in thought, then he looked around at the other patrons. He took another puff on his cig before the bartender handed him his drink. He sipped and smiled, preparing to lose himself in a nice buzz. After a short period of time, he looked at his watch, "Come on, sweetheart," he muttered, "ain't got all night."

Doris came back into the bar section of the basement and ducked behind the counter and took another cigarette. She looked for the matches, but they seemed to have disappeared. "Crap, now how am I going to light up?" She said, cigarette sagging from between her lips. She stood up and poured a customer their drink and pushed it to them. "You wouldn't happen to have a match, would you?" She asked them, the customer shook his head. Worth a shot she thought.
