Jester took a step back to look up above the hovel, perhaps they went higher, as they surely wouldn't go lower...would they?

"Are there small places in your hovel, big enough for a companion to hide in? Perhaps they were tired from all that gathering for us." Jester wondered out loud to Twilla. Stretching slightly, to work the kinks out of his wings from leaping from branch to branch all over the willow.

"Your probably right..." She sighed and relaxed, shoving worry out of her mind forcefully. They wouldn't just leave. Both the mus and the skurri were extremely reliable, even if they were considered to be lesser lifeforms than sentinels. She cherished both of them and the hard effort they put into their tasks. "No sense in worrying. Once they are done resting they are bound to come back out.

She entered the hovel and began to preen her disheveled feathers back into their proper places and relaxed after the hard work of straightening her tree. Up next was Jesters.

Jester hesitated for a moment before taking the bold chance and following Twilla into the hovel. Adjusting his own chest feathers for a moment, he looked at the dark gatherer for a moment then went back to the serious work of preening his chest feathers.

"We should wait for them, to move to the pine." he stated as he continued to preen. The pine was the affectionate name he gave to his tree. "Wouldn't want them to get confused and worried."

"Mmh... I believe you're right... We could take the opportunity to rest, too." Twilla agreed quietly. Had the time been any other before the storm, Twilla might of buffetted the male out of her hovel, but they were both tired and she was concerned about her companions and the well being of her mate.

Jester suddenly felt very bold in his tiredness, and decided to move closer to Twilla with the sudden urge to be next to her. He carefully maneuvered himself to be on her left side, puffing slightly.

"Do...." he paused to consider how to ask, "Do you ever think about a family?" he kept his voice low, to make sure the companions, if they were around, couldn't hear him speak.

Her feathers fluffed at her eartufts slicked back, but she was not caught off guard completely by Jester's question. She often wondered if he thought of the same thing. She ran her beak through her feathers.

"Sometimes, yes... For the longest time, it's just been me and Auze..." She had been pleased to see how quickly the mus had taken to the skurri being around, as she hoped for him to have more companionship in the case that he would be jealous in the future. Not only did he seem to like her, but the skurri was immensly helpful.

Jester was satisfied with Twilla's answer, he was very pleased that she also thought about a family. He decided to not further press the issue, as he wasn't sure if they were ready for a family, or even moving in together.

"I'm...glad." he finally stated after a moments contemplation. Leaning towards Twilla slightly, to preen her delicate cheek feathers affectionately.

Twilla returned the preening in a greatful silence. He had the same sentiments, apparently, and this caused the edges of her beak to curve in a soft smile.

Her eartufts flicked forwards as she heard a rustling sound at the entrance of the hovel. Auze and Tikki pushed past what few branches hung near the entrance. The two had been sleeping soundly in a small knot below the main hovel and while he was happy with his new friend, Auze could not help but eye Jester with a slight contempt as he settled next to Twilla.

Jester fluffed, startled by the sudden appearance of the companions during such an intimate moment. "Ah..did you two have a good rest?" Jester asked, slightly bewildered. He wanted to win the companions as friends not create animosity between them.

"Would the two of you help Twilla and myself with my pine? I'm sure its just as messy as the willow was." Jester desperately tried to change the subject.

"Mmmnh?" Tikki turned her almond shaped eyes to Twilla, who nodded her head. The dark furred skurri turned back to Jester and grinned. "Yah,yah! Help! Clean! Straight!" She agreed cheerfully.

"Okay..." Auze agreed reluctantly and shuffled his paws.

"So... Shall we?" Twilla asked with a cheery smirk at the edges of her beak.

Jester bobbed a nod as he opened his wings, leaning forward off the branch. "I'm sure between all of us we can clean up the pine in no time at all." Jester couldn't help but feel a swelling of pride as he floated west towards his home.

Twilla followed after him cheerfully, heart lightened by the fact that he seemed proud and cheerful. "Ah, yeah, no time at all!" She echoed.

Jester was counting his wing beats so that he wouldn't miss his tree, when he got to the 23rd he flattened his eartufts puzzled. He should have landed on beat 23 and one half, but he got to 24 then 25! Something was wrong.

"Twilla." his voice was shaky as he circled back to re-count. Again getting to 25. Circling back a second time to land haphazardly on a branch of a tall maple, staring at the space where his pine should be.

But it was gone, a glimpse to the below would prove his worst fear. There, far from where he now perched, was the hovel of his pine. Jester could feel the world around him spin, his home was destroyed. Taken, in the Thunderbird's wake.

"Oh... No..." Twilla's voice was soft and worried as she perched near her mate. Her eartufts flattened as she peered speechlessly down at the fallen pine. "No..."

She clutched the branch tightly with her talons and sighed anxiously. "Always gives more than he takes..." She spoke softly, hoping to help, but she did not know what to say.

Jester sat in total silence. He only hours earlier had praised the Thunderbird, now he was unsure it was deserved. The bard found comfort in the dark sentinels words, 'always gives more then he takes...' they seemed to echo in his head.

Inhaling, "Well.....I...I guess I shall have to find another place to live." he stated flatly. It came out much worse then he would have wished it too.
