Can someone translate this for me? Is this latin?

Salve regina mater misericordiae
Vita dulcedo et spes nostra
Salve salve regina
Ad te clamamus exules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes
O clemens o pia

Save ? mother ?
Life ? and our hope
Save save ?
To ? you ? the son of Eva
To ? you ? and ?
O ? o ?

that's all I understand sweatdrop

Salve doesnt mean save, it means hello.

Can you translate the whole thing, please?

Is this the song, from Sister Act?

It is dead though. Nobody speaks it as a first language anymore.

Still, they should use another word than dead.

Don't cry for me Argentina...

Anyway, my grammar and vocab are absolutely horrible, but:

Be well Queen, mother of misery (or pitiful mother, I'm not sure)
Life ----(possibly sweet) and our hope
Good health, be well Queen
To you we praise/shout ---- the son of Eva
To you ----- (this is a problem of vocab, if I find a dictionary and am not feeling lazy, I'll let you know)
Oh gentleness O ---

Salve can mean goodbye, but the the literal translation is something along the lines of 'good health'. That's one of the problems with Latin--some words are wayyy to specific like 'sal, salis, = salt, or (in the Aeneid) the salt sea. A lot of it is context.

Thank you so much! Now I at least have an idea of what they are singing. 4laugh

My username "Eadem" is Latin. It means "likewise". Of course it's pronunciation is in Latin.
