Nsanytee

I actually own a French version of Harry Potter #1. It was quite a pleasant shock to receive a French Harry Potter book (I also have first editions of #1-3 from Great Britain mrgreen ). My French teacher gave me extra credit for showing it to her, hee hee.

I read the first two HP books in French about two years ago, after a year of studying the language... it was excellent practice 3nodding

I guess like most people here it is easier for me to write and read it. I have more problems saying. Like I know what it's supposed to sound like, but it doesn't end up coming out that way. lol I'm weird.

Me too, I'm a lot better at writing and reading than at speaking the language sweatdrop though I can speak it quite well, too 3nodding

by the way... you think you're obsessed with HP? razz I've read at least one of the books in the following languages:

English (at least 11 times each)
French (the first 2 books)
Russian (first book)
Japanese (first four books*
and I will soon read them in Spanish and German o_o

although, that might be saying more about my love for languages than my love for HP sweatdrop

<3 Harry Potter! I've read the books so many times. They're wicked!

I started french in grade six (i did the late immersion program) it was such a concentrated first year. in grade seven we were mixed in with the students who've done it since kindergarten. now i'm in grade 10 and a lot of the late immersion are as good, if not better at speeking french than the early ones.

i find speaking french is as easy as reading and writing it. i won concours d'art oratoire in my district for 3 years running.

(sorry if i sounded bragging, i was just trying to sum up my history in french)

it's fine, doesn't sound like bragging. In my school we didn't have Foreign Languages till 7th grade, I'm in 8th now, so this is only my second year. I wish I could have taken more earlier though.

I want to get the Harry Potter books in Japanese...The only languages I have them in are French and English...
Unless you count my mom, who has a Classical Greek translation of the first one... xd
What sort of weird person would translate them into ancient Greek?
Ah well, it does sound like fun...
And I've read them in English and French as much as you, Proudly_Jewish! xd
Now I want to get the Lord of the Rings books in French...and maybe Japanese.
I can read, write, and speak French very well indeed. But understand the spoken French with them talking as quickly as they do...that's my main problem.

Acient Greek is a dead language, they translated HP into Ancient Greek in the hope that more people would be inspired to learn it 3nodding

I started actually learning french in 8th grade because that's when my school offered it, and I've taken it for two years. I wanted to take it this year but the couldn't fit it into my schedule, So I'm thinking about taking it outside of school. heart
