Celebor looked down at Lin, one eyebrow raised. Where in any world had she heard of a phrase like that?
"You mean that figuratively, I'm sure," he murmured, poking her in the shoulder.

Shael laughed uneasily at Feng's comment. "It scared me," she admitted. "I mean ... they came down from the mountain with their hoods up so I couldn't see either of them ... and I could sort of see some similarities between myself and Reuven ... but ... when I saw my sister ..."
She laughed again.
"And if you think that a year is a long time not to talk to me," Adonai murmured, "you should know that the first thing she did when I came back was slap me across the face so hard it left a mark for a week. Sometimes I swear I can still feel it."
When they heard Lin's comment, neither of them said anything, but a flush crept across both their cheeks and they exchanged a glance.
"At any rate," Adonai said abruptly, clearing his throat, "I think we should be getting back for lunch. Come with us, you have to talk to Mother anyways, and it's closer than the ranch is."

Miyu watched in interest as they blushed, she wondered why they would. After all it was just a kiss, though she supposed it wouldn't be so good if the kiss, not unless it was a kiss between a Mommy and a Daddy.... or a kiss between boys.
"That sounds like a fine idea," Kara replied softly.

"Of course!" Lin replied looking up at Celebor, "At least... I think when people say it they meant it figuratively...."
She thought about it, she actually didn't know the answer to that question.
Donovan nodded letting Lin get distracted by the question, "Lead the way, we'll follow."

"Well, not always," Celebor pointed out, starting off in the direction of the valley but looking at Lin. "Sometimes - especially between people who are married, or dating - it's an actual real kiss."
He paused.
"Or sometimes between a mother and child," he amended, "but then it's just a little kiss. Usually a hug."

Adonai stepped forward and took Shael's hand, then started leading the way.
"Feng, Ryu, you two should go see Aliya again," he grinned. "The kids have been asking about you, and they're all home for once."
"And you have to see how much Adonijah's grown since the last time you were here!" Shael exclaimed excitedly. "He's growing so quickly!"

Feng's eyes sparkled, she couldn't forget that! After all Adonijah no doubt didn't know her yet, therefore they must visit. Also she wanted to play with Adan again and see what he was up to. She looped her arm around Ryu's arm and began to drag him off to the direction of Aliya's house.
"See you later!" she waved.
"It's amazing one arm isn't longer than the other, she's been doing that since they were Surprises," Kara commented softly watching the two.

"Oh....." Lin mused on this, "I guess so."
She hadn't thought of it like that.

"Later!" Shael waved back to Feng and Ryu as they broke through the trees into the large open area by the river where the houses stood.
Only this time there had been a change: instead of two houses, there were three - only the last one was not quite complete. It lacked windows, and the wrap-around porch had no roof on it yet, and the inside, if one cared to look, was completely empty.
"Well," Adonai chuckled at Kara's comment, "one could get used to anything, I suppose. And the body does tend to adjust."

As they broke through the trees, Celebor looked up from his conversation with Lin and just about stopped in his tracks. He thought back to his last visit, and thought, and thought again, but finally he had to come to the conclusion:
"Now there's something different."
He glanced at Shael and Adonai. Could it be? They hadn't said anything ...

Lin, curious to why Celebor stopped talking looked to where he was. Her eyes looked at the half finished house in amazement, partly because she had never seen a house half built and she didn't know that a house was being built.
"It's a new house! Who's house is that?" she asked.
Though Donovan could kind of guess, if the dancing and the not talking for a year and all that stuff didn't already give him a hint.

Shael and Adonai exchanged a glance, then looked over at everyone else.
"For us," Adonai smiled slowly, "as soon as it's finished. Hopefully within the next few weeks or so."
"It's coming along very quickly," Shael said warmly, stepping closer to Adonai, "but there are still a few things that need to be done before we can move in. The fireplaces still need proper chimneys, we need glass for the windows ... the roof for the porch isn't so important, we can move in without that, I suppose."
"It would be nice though," Adonai pointed out. "But you're right, it's not necessary."
Meanwhile, at Aliya and Amdir's house, the family was just sitting down to a bread and meat lunch. The children were already gathered around the table: Adanedhel, now ten years old and quickly gaining on his father in height; the now seven-year-old twins, Adwin, rambunctious as Adan had used to be, and Alyse, far more dainty than her mother had ever been, preferring to dress in a skirt rather than pants, much like her aunt Shael; and last but not least, Adonijah, who was now almost three years old, sitting on his knees and trying to reach for the sandwich the furthest away from him.
Amdir was trying to settle the children as Aliya handed out the food and poured the drinks, but everyone was in a good mood.

Kara wish she had known, then she would have brought a housewarming gift, but it was so nice that the two were together like this. It would certainly explain Shael's reaction to Adonai leaving like he had.
"Wonderful," she murmured, "I take it Ulrich has a hand in most of this?"
She knew how good he was at this, so probably....
Meanwhile the twins had made it to the front door in a few sprites, Feng knocking on the door before Ryu could say anything.

"Neat...." Lin looked the house up and down, "Where is the glass going to come from?"
She didn't know how glass was made or where it came from. In fact she didn't know much about glass at all, but it had to come from somewhere.

"I got it!" Adan volunteered, jumping off his chair before anyone else could even react. He darted out of the kitchen and to the front door, opening it quickly.
"Feng-chan!" he exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "Ryu-kun!"
As he looked out at the mers, a strange look entered into his eyes as he realized ... he was just about as tall as they were. "Whoa ..."
"Yes," Shael replied warmly to Kara's question. "He's hand-carved just about everything in there ... if you'd like, we can take you on a bit of a tour after lunch and show you, it really is quite beautiful."
"Ada's spoiled us," Adonai chuckled. "He and Mother both. Mother's already got all sorts of ... curtains, bedspreads, sheets ... more than we could ever use, I'm sure. None of it will be going into the house until it's ready, of course. At the moment it's mostly all being stored in one of the extra bedrooms at Aliya and Amdir's house."
"And the ranch hands have been helping, too," Shael added. "They helped with the wall-raising, so once the outside walls were built, they were put up in just one day. It was pretty amazing."
"As for the glass for the windows," Adonai winked at Lin, "we have two choices. We could have them delivered from the city - which would take a long time, and they might not even arrive in one piece - or we could ask Haradhel to make them for us. I'm sure Ahren would love that, he could learn to make glass then, too."
