((Evil Angel is a fantastic song by BB, and also quite fitting. =P))
Amadeus was mildly surprised that the man was able to see him. It had been a long time since the angel had run into a human with Sight. Then again, this man was definitely a religious figure, and if he was one of the faithful and pure types... then of course God would grant him Sight. What surprised Amadeus more was that he also had the gift of Speech. There was only one other whom Amadeus had seen with that power, and he lived and died many, many years ago... before Amadeus was a Guardian, even. And yet, here this man was, talking to him without moving his lips.
"Good morning, father." The angel was always amused by the human custom of calling priests and preachers "father", since the only true father was God. It amused him, though, so he used it himself from time to time. God wouldn't mind, of course. "Everything is quite fine with me, thank you. I just arrived in Alphaline several minutes ago. God decided that a holy event such as your Angel Festival would attract a few... uninvited guests. So myself and a few others have been dispatched to oversee the smooth execution of your lovely town's celebration. I trust everything is alright with you, Father?"
He was a pleasant fellow, to be sure, and Amadeus was glad he had found him. If Hell's demons found this man and managed to take him sooner than God had planned... it would be a terrible loss for Alphaline. Such a pure and likeable leader... those qualities were fast becoming harder to find. Perhaps the man knew what was in store for his Angel Festival, since he mentioned that he would need "all the help he could get". Well, Amadeus was here, and he was very keen on making sure the next few days would not become a tragic disaster. Not on his watch.

The aged figure grinned; so this one seemed to be sent by the Big guy. Good, it was all going just as he had told him so far. Ah, so far it's been quite a plesant morning, thank you kindly for asking. I'll go ahead and warn ya, some humans, I must say, are no where near quite as plesant and polite as most of the angels (such as yourself) that I have met. So don't be surprised to see that some humans are more cruel than others. Some more than the demons themselves....
On a diferent note, it's probably a bit strange for you that we're referred to as Fathers; dunno why and how that one got cooked up, but whatever fellow came up with that got it stuck in history; and thus I now have many children even when I'm the only one in my family left. Ohohoho! The man sat down on a bench for a moment, looking more natural, as he continued the plesant chat with the fellow.
I have been told that today, my friend, that the history of the realtions of angels, demons and humans will forever change. Boundries will be broken, and-ah, why should I spoil it for you? Ohohohohoho, that'd be no fun!the man chuckled in in his Speech. But the people are gonna need backup, so why don't you follow me and we'll head to the band contest? It should be interesting to say the least. If you have any questions on this world of humans, don't be afraid to ask, dear boy! Heaven knows I can only imagine how everything must be so different to you." The man said, rising slowly from the bench and rubbing his back. "Deary me, the years have done a toll to me. Ohohohoho!" he said aloud in non-Speech.

((Bwahahaha! I have you hooked on the idea of using capitalization to represent holy powers! =P))
A smile crossed Amadeus's face as he listened to the old man talk. It was the first time in... he couldn't even remember. It was one of the reasons other angels didn't treat him so well in Heaven... the other, of course, being that he lost a charge. Yet here he was, listening to this old man happily chatting away. It occured to him that the loss of his first protectee had done more to him than garner the disrespect of other angels. It had certainly changed his character. He used to be much less serious, much less quiet and internal, and unfortunately... much less careful. After his failure, his outlook on Guardianship changed completely. He almost never revealed himself to his charges, and only when absoltuely necessary. Otherwise, he kept his distance, and only focused on doing his duty. But now, talking to the old man, Amadeus was slowly realizing what he was missing out on.
He was broken out of his reverie when he heard his companion's bit about history-changing events and boundary-breaking actions. He reverted back to his more serious self. He waited for the man to finish talking, and then responded. "If the events unfolding here are so revolutionary and ground-breaking... how could you possibly deny me every scrap of detail you know to further arm me against the perils to come? I mean no disrespect by my words good sir -I quite like you, in fact- but it is my job to protect your kind, and I can only do that if I have the knowledge necessary to stop whatever tries taking you to the netherworld." He paused for a moment, and let his words sink in. "With that said, you can be sure that I will take you up on your offer to help me acquaint myself with your world." He attempted another smile. "It's been a while since I've last been down here, and I must say that the laws governing your world are indeed different from the ones governing mine."
He gently touched the man's back and allowed himself to become a channel through which God could perform a minor miracle: he relieved the priest of his back pains. "Now lead on to the band contest. If you think my services are needed there, then it is there I shall go."
((T__T I feel bad for making Amadeus act so harshly in response to Priest's words... the old man was just having a bit of fun...))

"What a goof, see, that's why I dislike meeting new people. They're always such losers." Strake said as Zack's group ran down the stairs, then he continued going down the stairs.
"So when you met us we were such losers? That man was rather handsome, I would like to see him at the battle of the bands." Katie joked, making fun of Strake. "You sure do get jealous easily don't you?"
"Me, jealous of that, never in my life." Well I'm not exactly living, but she doesn't need to know that. Strake looked over and saw the angel again. She's gorgeous...probaly that Zack kids protector. I bet she's that presence I felt upstairs. It'd be best if I stay away from Zack, unless I want to be discovered and then killed. Strake thought to himself. He finally reached outside and actually beat Zack's crew down. "How did this happen? Maybe they switched to the other staircase on the way down. Maybe they can give us a ride, cause I really don't feel like running. I think Sparky's too tired to fly. Strake said, looking at the bird who was behind Josh.
"Ahhhh, get this thing off me, it's going to smash me into cubes of Josh, and then eat me with it's enormous bird-like teeth, then I'm gonna go down it's massive-"
"It's Sparky, my bird you idiot." Strake said laughing at Josh, who was curled up in a ball on the floor. Sparky flew over to Strake and sat on his shoulder, as Josh stood up.

((Ah, it's cool. Just staying in character is all you're doing. Wow, the priest is like...........A holy Santa Clause or something. xd ))
The aged figure could see that the boy was actually enjoying this conversation a bit. Good, this was the one that God wanted to loosen up! Poor chap has been in a heap of mess for quite awhile; he needs a break. But upon the questioning of why he wasn't told everything, the priest could see what the big guy meant; this one was faaaaar too serious for his own good! Such a shame to see an angel turned around so much in his character.
Ohohoho, slow down, child! Don't you think if God wanted me to tell you each detail that I would've done so already? Ah, it's only in those who are chosen by God that know the secrets of his plan. You're naturally find out in time; I doubt that if I was going to die by something you didn't know, God would've mentioned something about it to me. At least, I hope so; I doubt he'd lead me off like that. Sort of like a twisted surprise party; ohohohohoho! he chuckled.
Upon the boy healing his back, the man tried a quick jig, and grinned. Ah, much thanks, sir; I'll need to be quick today. And I'll be happy to help you out with anything you need, since you'll be down here for awhile. he said, as he motioned for the boy to follow him.
Just to warn you, we might become more slow-going once we reach the heart of town; many people come up to me with all sorts of questions and blessings- there was one time where a guy wanted me to bless his own waste; smelled horrible both him and the waste. Said it spoke to him; I'm not kidding! Strange fellow, God bless his misguided soul. he shook his head.
By the way, I've yet to catch your name; what is it?

Jay led the small group to a side street that was empty, except for their beat up old van. The thing was absolutely ugly. It had to be about ten years old, the faded paint had a hint of flames on the side. Sarah and Zack stood in amazement while Jay put Sarah's guitar in the back.
"Jay, what are you doing?" Sarah scolded. "There's no way we'll get to the performance now."
Zack chuckled in agreement with Sarah. "I thought you were an idiot, but I didn't know it was this serious." He walked up to the van, and, despite what he and Sarah were thinking, jumped in the back, leaving the front for Sarah.
Jay grabbed Sarah by her arm and led her to her spot in the front. "Relax," he told them, shutting the door. After running around the van to get to his spot on the driver's side, and continued. "I learned, last night, that there's going to be certain streets that people aren't allowed to walk on, leaving those of us who need to drive...can."
"And you learned this last night," Zack accused, "while you were supposed to be at our boy's night out, discussing our plan for today."
Jay shrugged. "Well, you know how it is..."
Sarah looked out the window. It wasn't that she felt left out, being the only girl in the band, but it would be nice if they invited her along on one of the boys' crazy nights once in awhile. Isn't it a coincidence they choose the nights she's away visiting her brother? It would be nice to have girl friends, she then decided. Boys were fun to be around, but she didn't really have anyone she can talk to about girl things...Tristan didn't count. He didn't experience those 'monthly' habits, and maybe he did converse with Sarah about guys, but she would rather have a girl to discuss this all with.

As they were turning to an empty street, Melody thought fast; her wings spread again, she flew to the top of the roof of an empty old building. They fluttered a bit as she landed and leaned over the rail. Ah, she should've guessed that the trio was going into the famous band van, hidden for the sake of it not getting stolen. It was so......old, that it was a miracle that it still worked. Hehe.......miracle. Zack had no idea.
As she saw them all get in the van, she noticed (for she could see the passenger's window side) that Sarah looked a bit......sad. Strange, you'd think she'd be happy, or maybe nervous, but not sad. But using her awesome hearing skills, she heard something about a boy's night out, and Mel "aaaahed" to herself. The girl must've felt a bit.....lonely, being the only female in the band.
She waited for the van to move; after all, getting on top of it would be too risky, so she'd have to fly behind.

Strake, Katie, and Josh heard the sound of the old van. Hoping it was the group they just ran into they ran around the corner.
"Dude, hey, do you think we could get a ride, running with instruments is a bit tough, and a cab wouldn't let me take Sparky." Strake said to Zack and Jay, not really caring which responded. Strake was still worried about the angel, but he really was thinking that he could hide himself well enough. He was hoping to talk to the angel, not because she was the most gorgeous thing he had ever seen, but because if anyone would accept an exiled demon, he felt it would be her.
"Oh that would be very nice. Basses are never at the right level when they're on your back. Sparky also has a bad wing." Katie said attempting to fix her strap.
"Poor Sparky, I love that bird...I wonder how he'd feel if I called him Raven?" Josh said knowing what would happen if he reffered to the bird by any other name than Sparky.
Sparky began to cry, which was really just rubbing his face against Strake's chin. "Look at what you did, apologize before I get bird tears on my neck." Strake almost yelled at Josh.
"I'm sorry Sparky, I'm gonna get you some food to make it up to you, how's a dog bone sound?" Josh offered, He found it odd that a raven could cry, but he didn't find that nearly as odd as the Raven being able to eat a dog bone, much less enjoy it.

As Amadeus listened to the man talk, he slowly realized he was right. Surely God would haven't denied him all the information he needed. Besides, part of Protecting was learning how to adapt to a changing situation and thinking quickly on your feet. If Guardian Angels were always given the knowledge of everything that was to happen beforehand... well, anyone could do the job. Amadeus almost felt ashamed of how he had talked to the priest before.
"I'm sorry. Of course you're right. God himself would have told me anything I needed to know. As it was, he told me to 'protect the populace in my name', and nothing more. If that's all I am to know right now, then I must accept the fact and, as you say, learn what happens as things come to pass. All will be revealed in due time, and it's my duty to handle them when the time comes." He bowed his head, "Again, my apologies."
He lifted his head up and resumed walking with his new acquaintance. "As for dealing with the... ah... traffic you will face momentarily, you needn't worry about me." He smirked, "You must remember... I AM an angel."
They continued making their way towards the centre, but Amadeus was lost in thought. Maybe the old man was right, and Amadeus ought to loosen up a bit. Perhaps he was taking his job too seriously and he needed to "live a little", in a manner of speaking. Perhaps that is what God wanted, for him to have some fun while Protecting. Then again, that's what got his first charge killed, and that's something Amadeus didn't want a repeat performance of. Never again would he let personal enjoyment cloud his thinking.
Never.
((Bah... every time Amadeus seems like he's JUST ABOUT to change his ways... something happens. XD))

Upon seeing the same group from before suddenly pop up out of nowhere, the uneasy feeling that was in the pit of the angel's stomach suddenly returned, but now that she was out in the open and she could see them all without a ton of interference, it finally came to her.........the one with a bird was a demon, and possibly the bird itself (after all, the bird eating dog bones and physically crying?). It was mainly the aura the young lady could sense on him, and panic began to rise in her. If they were in that van, he'd be with a demon; and one that lived on earth, no doubt! Otherwise, she and Zack (and maybe Jay) would be the only ones that could see him.
Now, Melody was still by the building, but now had flown down to a point where she was hidden in one of hte lower level windows of the abandoned apartment complex, watching, waiting carefully and now on full alert. If he got in the van with Zack, that would be a big problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ah, an angel you may be, but there are some people I believe talk more than the Lord does his works, and that's alot of works!" the man Speech-wise chuckled as the duo traveled down the street and into the heart of hte city. The boy seemed very lost in thought; perhaps he was examining himself from the inside out? After all, another grand tradition of this place was to review one's self and how to improve the soul for the better.
Many people, of course, waved hello and many cheerful "good mornings!" to the priest. The man did stop on his own accord a few times, to talk with his best friends who were also in this massive busy place, checking in a few shops he went to every year, the like. One of the main places, was an old store that sold the traditional angel paperfolds (oragami, but paperfolds sounded cooler to the aged man). This, he knew, was the store where it all started, several years ago when the place was first celebrated. After all, teh man now in charge here was a ancestor of the one who started it all, the angel paperfolds. It carries to this day, and the priest loved to beat the crowds to the least wrinkled and most wrinkled ones. Because all papers are equal, no matter how many extra folds it has.
However, he used his work as an excuse to not talk to the ones who he either disliked, or knew they'd chat the day away. After all, today he was a man on a mission!
The three in the van watched the three outside the van. The boys watched in amusement at the crying bird, and Sarah looked at the creature skeptically. Birds...crying?
Jay shrugged. "Sure! We can always carry more." He winked at Katie. "Just because we're battling on the stage, doesn't mean we can't share a van together."
Sarah rolled her eyes and looked back out her window. Zack rolled his eyes, but suddenly got a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach. It was weird, like he was about to have a nervous breakdown, but he never really reached that point. He looked over at Strake, and the feeling became strong. He never had this feeling before...could it be because of her?
Jay jumped out of his spot in the driver's seat, and opened the sliding door, not at all wincing at the horrid creaking noise it made. He then motioned for Sarah to scoot over to the driver's seat.
"Us stinky guys shall have the back," Jay said, "whilst the lovely ladies have the front."
Once again, Sarah rolled her eyes, and scooted over to the driver's side, allowing Katie to occupy the passenger seat. Inside, though, she was happy that she would be sharing a ride with a girl and not anymore boys. Her parents would be proud of her.
Zack moved to the seat directly behind Sarah, feeling a little safer near her, a little more calm. However, that feeling he got from beign around Strake was still there.
Strake was unable to use any demonic abilities whilst in human form, so he was completely unaware of how Zack felt about him. Strake sat down to Zack's right, then Josh sat next to him, leaving the last spot open for Jay right behind Katie.
Guess that puts the goof behind me, at least he's kind of cute. Katie thought to herself, then quietly laughed at the thought of what Strake would do if she began to flirt with Jay. She considered doing so, but didn't want to distract Strake for he looked a bit nauseous. "You okay Strake? You look a little sick." Katie said to Strake.
"Oh I'm just fine, I just got to look at the road, or I'll get carsick you know." Strake flat out lied. He was actually rather in fear that his presence was discovered by the angel. Maybe she doesn't know... He thought to himself. Honestly seen by an angel made him fell sick with fear. A demon in fear of an angel, I see why I'm an "exile." He accidentally said the last word out loud, probally loud enough for the angel to hear him. He figured that he was in the presence of a smart angel, and maybe by hearing the word exile, she'd realize that he may have been an exile.
"What about exile Strake?" Asked Josh, who was sitting next to him.
"Our song 'Exile' we should play it. It's perfect for the thing." Strake said smiling than taking out a notebook and he began writing in it.
"We don't have a song called 'Exile' Strake, what are you talking about?" Josh asked in utter confusion.
"I'm writing it right here, I know it's last minute but we need this song, it's been trapped in my head for weeks, and I need to get it out. Please do this for me." Strake said writing on the paper the lyrics to the song. The song was actually how he was going to talk to the angel. He hoped she could figure out it was his life.
"Well, sing a bit for us Strake." Katie said to Strake, turned to face him.
"Use to be the strongest, of demons to burn light, but then the sky turned black, and I was in frieght,
The other left me, to fend on my own, The angels beat me, I couldn't go home,
I was exiled, Out of existance in their world, I hid away, Where the humans swirled." Strake sang in a very strong Tenor-Alto voice. He was the music writer for the band, as well as the singer and violin/guitar player. He hoped his message would travel far enough to reach the angel's ears.
"Finish it up, and give us the tabs, and you've got a great song for us to play. Just one question, you play guitar are violin for this song?" Katie enjoyed his song, and always like his singing.
"Guitar of course. It's gonna be like a slow bit at first, and only a few chords for me to play, and then it'll speed up, just like I sang it." Strake said smiling, while petting Sparky.
Amadeus walked quietly with the old man as they made their way around the city. If it hadn't been clear enough already, now Amadeus was absolutely certain that the priest was a very well known, very well-respected member of Alphaline's community. Not only that, but Amadeus quickly discovered that the man was jolly and upbeat with just about anyone he met, and not just angels. It was nice to know that there were still people like him on this three-dimensional plane known as earth. And the ones he was tried to ignore... Amadeus could tell they were unpleasant fellows even without knowng them.
He also enjoyed looking through the windows of the shops they passed by. Many of them sold quite pleasant wares, and Amadeus decided he'd have to go back and re-examine each one in closer detail in a few days when he had some free time. The one he appreciated the most, however, was the oragami angel shop. While the priest was busy making his purchase, Amadeus was examining the paperfolds and marvelling at their intricacies. it was amazing, he thought, that humans could craft something so unique and delicate as these. If he ever Fell, he decided, and lived among the humans, he would live here in Alphaline and decorate his living space with lots of these angel paperfolds.
Upon leaving the store, Amadeus turned to face the priest and asked him a question. He was reminded of it when he was looking at the paperfolds and pondered contrast in purity. "Friend, I have a question. Why is there such a disparity in the purity of humans? There are some that are kind-hearted, self-sacrificing, and absolutely lovely to be with. Yet there are also others that are selfish, cruel, and downright nasty. A small deviation from what's 'normal', is easy to accept... but such a wide contrast? Perhaps you could give me a good answer, since the question has boggled my mind for... well... quite a long time.
((Sorry if I gave you such a philosophical/weird question. I wanted Amadeus to ask something so you had something to work with in Priest's response, and that seemed like one of the questions he'd be likely to ask.))
As soon as Melody saw the last new passenger get in the car, she realized that flying behind wouldn't be an option that neither she nor the big man would be comfortable with; she'd have to play a risky game, relying plainly on faith and stealth for this one. Like a super secret spy; James Band! Flying very quickly, she landed ever so quietly on top of the car. After all, she could hold herself up, and since she wasn't "on-on" Earth, the humans will see no bludge of a bottom on the top of their car. Though that'd be funny.
As they started moving, the girl could feel her hair fly back a bit, flowing beautifully in the wind, and she made sure to close in her wings back into her angelic body, or she'd fall right off like paper on top of a car. She was still in disguise, so even if she WAS seen by a passerby, it wouldn't look too odd; more like there wasn't enough room in the truck and the young lady was merely playing it risky. She held a white hat on her head with her hand, while the other gripped part of the top to keep balance. Not as nice as flying, but not bad. So this was this "Car" vehicle that humans liked; but too bad they couldn't sit ontop like she was. It was so breezey and nice, yet totally unsafe for HUMANS. But it was so much fun!
When the old van started moving along nicely (with Medody's help on keeping the engine running of course; it was an old engine), Melody could hear the demon speak a bit, and to her surprise, heard the word "exile", just out of thin air. The young lady pondered this for a moment, her pointer finger on her mouth in thought while the boy covered up his mistake by saying it was a song. Exile........?
As he began to sing, it hit her like a brick to the head. Ahhhhh, exile, so this one was cast out of both sides; that explained why he was here on Earth and not in-well, hell. This one took trust to humans, or was still toying with them in general. She didn't doubt the latter of the options one bit. Either way, a character to be careful around. She hoped that Zack was ok in there; it was hard to tell by not seeing him, and it agitated her a bit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The man could tell in the back of his mind that the young lad was fully enjoying himself (and, like the aged one guessed, took pleasure in the angel shop). Good, he was showing some enjoyment again; according to God, it had surely been quite awhile. Perhaps that was why he sent the boy out here, to remeber to enjoy the gift of life? Surely that must be hard after what he went through, but perhaps God had planned it out from the very beginning..........
As they left the store, the angel asked him a thoughtful question. The man took a moment to think of how to word it, before answering the youngster in Speech.:
"Ah, good question, dear lad. While it is rather strange that people are so diverse in personalities and choices, there is one thing to keep in mind; while good exists, there must be evil to balance out the equation. As to why this is, that isn't a question I can answer for certain. Even after years of research, many of it lies on how the Bible and other holy arts are interpetted by an individual. Such as 'I say tomato, you say TOmato', kind of thing.
What we do know, is that the devil was once an angel himself, but sins overtook him to a point where he believed that he should be the King. That, I wonder, is where evil started. The only taht could have happened, is if God planned it that way. After all, which is more worthy of trust; one who blindly believes in teh Lord where there is only the Lord, or one who looks at the choices in life, then turns to the Lord? the man grinned for a moment as they crossed the street.
"Of course, the second one. But again, this is my interrpetion; for all we know it could've been as laid back as 'oh, it's FAR too easy if it's just me; let's add in evil for a bit of fun! What a challenge; now for the popcorn and watch the movie begin!'" he joked with his usual chuckle.

The three sat in silence as Strake sung his newly written song, it made Zack feel slightly jealous. The only one of his members could do that was Tristan, but he was a gift from God, or something - Tristan wants to be a great priest, like the funny, youth-filled, spirited priest they have now. When he was done, Jay shared a look with Zack, the one that said, "hey, we can beat him. Don't give up hope." Sarah looked at Katie, unable to turn her head fully to see the guys in the back.
"Do you really think that song is appropriete?" Sarah asked. "I mean, given the event? The day when we worship angels, not begrudge them."
Jay laughed. "Awe, Sarah, you gotta lighten up, sweetheart." He smiled widely at her; he knew she hated sappy nicknames like that. "This just proves my point that it wouldn't be horribly blasphemous if we played 'Evil Angel'."
Zack shrugged, not catching onto the meaning of the song. He wasn't really intelligent in the "other" beings department. Until an hour ago, he really didn't think they existed, to be honest. Of course, now, he only thinks angels are the only "other" beings out there. However, Jay did have a point. He didn't write that song for any other super special event, right?
((Does the priest have a name?? ))
