I am a huge RPG nerd, so probably all of my suggestions will fall into that. My top 5 PS2 games/series would be as follows.
1. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
2. Any game in Namco's "Tales" series. My personal favorite was Tales of Destiny for PS1, but the entire series continues to be consistently good. Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Legendia are both on PS2 and pretty easy to find.
3.Atelier Iris (the first one, the sequal was lacking pretty much all of the features that made the first game fun).
4. Kingdom Hearts/ Kingdom Hearts 2.
5. We heart Katamari. More maps than Katamari Damacy, same level of absurdity.

The Kingdom Hearts series, definitely. I'd stay away from the PS2 Spyro games. The one I tried out a while ago (Enter the Dragonfly) Sucked. It wasn't as good as the old PS1 trilogy. Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 is a good one, and Soul Calibur is awesome. If you're into Racing games, Burnout Revenge is an awesome one, though a few of the Crash courses can get a little annoying at times. Nascar Rumble is a fun one, but it may not hold your interest for long. If you can stomach bloody, gory games, the Legacy of Kain series is pretty good(It's mostly puzzle based, though. and it doesn't have any giant boss fights. It's mostly storyline too, but it's a good game nonetheless). That's all I can think of.

I <3 Star Wars Battlefront 2. It's fun, even though I dont like star wars that much.
I also like Guitar Hero, any of 'em biggrin

if u want good games, get the Driver series, yes the game is called driver( driver, driver2, driver3, driver parrallel lines)
true crime new york, need for speed most wanted.

Oo!! TEKKEN is a must buy.....also Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I prefer Genji: Dawn of the Samurai too

If you have 5 bucks to spare definetley try out Space Channel 5 Special edition. It has both the games. Its pretty much a simon says game but with dancing and shooting and talking plants razz

well if your looking for good games on ps2 i have to recommend the splinter cell series and the mission impossible series and if you want rpg's i'd go for baulders gate dark alliance 1 and 2 ninja

you should deifintely go for Final Fantasy XII. it's one of my all time favorite final fantasies. i've spent over 90 hours playing the game
