“The voice again!” the blind pretender thought to himself. That was definitely it. This time though there was a smell. A sweet aroma. Shisei did and would not say it out loud, but his bestial stomach vibrated the word throughout his body. ‘Food!!!!’. Now if his eye could not figure out where to go, his stomach would. Taking the advice, the serpent child gave the ground a small knock not as hard as to break the wood. He was getting it easier now, especially with the aid of the voice. As much as his ego did not like help, Shisei’s stomach did not mind help. Especially since the last time it ate was a melon in the morning. With the delightful smell waving around his nose and revitalizing energy and beckoning him to come forth. It was like a moth drawn to light. He just had to go a few more feet.

Shisei’s stomach was on autopilot. The unexplainable feeling that swelled within it continued to drive the serpent youth forward even though his face remained as unmoving as a beached whale. The noise of the village was making it hard to steer through the crowd so the little white nose continued to steer him forward. An examining brain was also trying to use as much intuition as possible, but he was used to having actual facts. If it was possible though, he would do it.
The wooden stick slowly tapped against the ground and his feet boldly, yet slowly took each step. His foot came across something wet, perhaps a puddle. This made his body go into an accelerated motion forward. Trying to regain his balance, the serpent child spun around a drove the stick into the floor. This managed to thwart his acceleration. Keeping a calm composure, Shisei managed to invert his direction to its former state and keep on walking. Food would not be deterred tonight.

He was close. The smell had gotten stronger. Shisei could only hope this person would direct him in the right route after. His body inched closer and closer, with each step he used the piece of firewood to make certain his path was clear. A small smirk was beginning to form on the boy’s face. It wasn’t so bad. Once you had some long utensil to check the ground it was ok. The child began to wonder why people would take so much pity on blind people. At least for travel on foot it wasn’t much different. That is until his body came into contact with something. His body had pressed against it, in his steady hurry to reach the voice. The thing wasn’t a wall. It was soft and mushy. Not being able to see exactly what this obstacle was made Shisei more curious as to what it could be. His free hand began to grope around on the soft thing trying to discern what it was. Pale fingers gave three quick squeezes and then his index finger flicked something. The analyzing child could not comprehend what it could be, but the next noise would validate what it was.
“Ahhh! You little pervert!!!”

Uh oh. Not a good situation. Very bad actually. Shisei did not know who or what he touched, but by judging from the reaction the repercussions would be dire. His lips had to move and explain the situation quickly. “Uh! Well uh miss you see I was” the sentence would never be finished. The thwack that came across his forehead sounded like a textbook dropping a few feet from the air. The serpent youth did not know what he got hit with, but whatever it was sent his body a few feet into another direction. The last thing he heard was “I know what you were trying to do! The nerve!!”. The last thing he heard before his skull hit the ground and slid upon stone a few inches. A few seconds later the firewood that was a walking stick came down crashing on his nose. Both palms clasped the little air hole upon his face as his body lay motionless. It would only be more demeaning to roll around on the floor in pain, even though that’s all his body wanted to do at the moment.
He did not know which hurt more, the stick or the blow from the woman. What his mind did know was that this sort of training was over for the rest of the night. He was only grateful that his tongue did not come into play to investigate the object. Then the blow might have been worse. The only good thing about it was that he was much closer to the voice. Actually, probably right below him. He could smell the whiff of the same food from his bruised nose. It smelt delicious. Almost making all the pain from this exercise going away. Shisei took the blindfold off and decided to ask the question on his mind. “Do you know where the Udon noodle shop is in the village?” the boy questioned weakly.

Udo chuckled and looked down at the boy. "That'd be my shop, Orochi Shisei. Though you're alone - Prodo said there would be two of you..." Udo shrugged, though, and held up a plate of udon noodles, steaming and fresh. They smelled absolutely delicious, and were the best udon noodles that could be found on the island...even in the whole fire country. With a small smirk, he kept it out of the boy's reach. "But dinner doesn't come free - you're gonna have to solve the riddle, Shisei. Now - tell me the answer to the riddle." Udo's eyes glimmered with interest - would the boy be able to get it?

“There should be two of us…” Shisei thought, wondering where Karite had disappeared to. Considering the Orochi born had went to complete some other training and silver eyes was the first to finish, the young snake had expected to find Karite already stuffing his stomach. Just where did he go?
Shaking the thought quickly gold eyes returned to the object at hand. Still one more hurdle to climb. The youth had already forgotten about the riddle and coin he had to give to the noodle master. Shisei didn’t mind the last task though. He liked riddles or the mind. His mind quickly remembered the younger days of him fumbling around with a rubix cube and puzzles. Although he couldn’t remember for certain, but his sister may have had a better knack for these sort of things.
Head tilted back and eyes clothes the boy’s mind began to fire away like a battalion of archers. “No wings…. No eyes……Yet it can travel the universe easily…..and has conquered the world....but it’s never left home.” Different answers began to culminate in his mind. “Could it be time? It could travel the universe easily and has no wings or eyes. It conquers everything…. but its everywhere so it doesn’t necessarily have a home.” The idea of time seemed ok he would keep that in mind.
His brain concocted another angle. “Maybe a hermit or sage? They are always at home. As for a sage if he reaches enlightenment then his mind basically has conquered all that the world has to offer. All that knowledge would be like traveling the universe….but sages can’t soar and they have eyes…”. This idea seemed too shaky and was more willing to agree with his first thought.
“Perhaps the brain or mind…”. The brain of the serpent youth began to experiment with this idea. “It doesn’t have neither wings nor eyes but can see and like a sage can soar if it learns. Since it learns it can travel the universe and conquer the world. Yet it stays within one’s skull so it never leaves home.” This idea seemed the most plausible yet something still didn’t feel too right. His mind thought for another minute, but could not create a better answers. The snake youth could have only imagined if his smaller sister was here that she would get the answer. “Hmmp. She always had a better imagination than I when it came to riddles…..” his brain thought. Shisei could not remember exactly if she was better at riddles, but the younger sibling saw the world at a different angle than her big brother.
Then suddenly it came to him. All thought processes came to halt and reversed. The serpent youth believed he found the correct answer. To think that his sister would have been of help too. The boy opened his eyes and stared at the man. “The answer to the riddle is…” Shisei spoke low enough that only the two could hear the answer. Just in case any other students were around that had not completed the riddle.

Udo smiled and pulled a moderately sized bowl from the stand. Handing it to Shisei, he winked and said, "That was quick, boy. Come back another night, I'll give you a free meal if you can figure out another one. Prodo says when you eat that you can go home or have some cocoa at the bar with the rest of the kiddos." Udo smiled again at the boy and then turned to finish preparing the bowls he was going to take over to Prodo's bar quite soon. The children of the village were being treated by the pugnacious man, and Udo could go for a warm bottle of sake as well. With the bowls in hand, Udo looked around for the other boy and shook his head. "Hey, if you see the other one that was supposed to come by, tell'm his dinner is at the bar if he can figure the riddle." Slightly annoyed, Udo turned off the small cooking things he used and made sure none of them would burn down his shop while he went to have a drink.

Shisei took the bowl and thank the man before heading off. He liked figuring out the riddle and most importantly getting it correct quickly with only one try. Being first one of his greatest motivations. It made him feel to do some more training later. Although for tonight it won’t be as tedious as the night before. He wanted also wanted to do some reading on Shima. It would be good to know some information on future adversaries. A visit to the library would be good before it gets too late.
With the use of chopsticks, his mouth rapidly, but still with the grace of a noble, ate the food. He sat there on the footstep devouring his dinner allowing his mind to wander off in memories and events. Karite had disappeared off somewhere. Peculiar. Then again the serpent youth could not say he knew the boy that well. For all his brain knew the youth could be slacking off or chasing girls. Perhaps trying to peep through someone’s window. Even training. Also there were the other ‘kiddos’ the ramen seller had stated were at the bar. He could always go there after, but socializing was not the child’s strong attribute. There was no point if he could not get anything out of it. Besides if it was the boy’s group, Shisei believed someone called him Brassa, then the snake child would see them sometime tomorrow. His brain also wondered if the rest of his class had finished the puzzle. Also did the females finish at the academy? Doing all that girly stuff could not have been more than an hour. The hungry snake was half way through his bowl, but his speed had significantly slowed done. His skull’s pondering were more central now that the hunger in his belly was satiated. Shisei sat on a step, slowly feasting and guessing what to do next.

A bowl to the side and a stomach satisfied the Orochi loner returned to his feet. Different thoughts and ideas kept swirling through his mind, none staying long enough to become motivation for an action. One notion that kept returning to Shisei’s mind was the situation of his previous home. If there was a situation left. For all the young boy knew, he could be the last Orochi. A somber and lonely title if it became true. Brushing, the thoughts away Shisei decided to return to the library. There were a few books that peak his interest. Through busy bodies of the road, the snake child disappeared into the crowd.

Kore wondered into the village like Karite said and soon followed his nose through the raising crowds and to the ramen shop. Not knowing weather or not it was open Kore began to claw on the door in hopes of an answer. The young cub was hungry. He hoped very much he would not have to search for the jungle lady. If that was the case it would be a long time before he ate again. Praying that the door would open to steamy meat he hoped that this Udo was nice to cats.

[ Udon shop. =) ]
Udo yawned as he opened up shop and found that a small kitten was scratching at his leg. Wait...that was no kitten! Jumping back slightly in shock, he eyed the small furball and immediately surmised that this feline was part of the wild lion woman clan that inhabited the north-eastern prairie land at the edge of the village. With a chuckle, Udo knew what he was doing here. Like all animals, and growing cubs being no exceptions, this guy was hungry. It was too early too test out the cub intellectually - he looked absolutely beat, to be honest. Udo smiled and walked around behind his counter, reaching for the bits of meat that were too tough to cook in his absolutely amazing and delicious udon meals. He put them in an old, chipped bowl that was not suitable for humans anymore, and placed the bowl on the floor, shaking his head. "Even cubs need to grow, though if you get as big as Baki, I don't know how we're going to get enough meat to feed you two!" He hadn't met the young cub yet, Ruha, so he only knew about this one for now. He wondered what the academy students would be doing today...and decided that it was about time the kiddies learned how to think about things in more than just black and white. Time to teach grey to fresh minds...
With no idea of how to do just that, Udo whistled to himself as he poured a cup of tea and placed a sign up that noted he would be back later. Giving the small cub a small treat (a small leftover cut of prime beef), he headed over to the academy.

Kore was not surprised by the mans reaction he would have been surprised if the man didn't react in such a manner as he was not your normal house cat. The man was not a fighter, he could see that easy. He was not muscular and certainly didn't seem fast. If Kore could see that then anyone else could, so how did this man fight? What else was there besides pure strength and skill? That was a thought for a different time though. The man had come back with food and Kore wasted no time to quickly dig in. The first solid meal sense yesterday at the academy. Speaking of which he wondered how his sister was doing. Knowing her though she was probably still sleeping. Feeling he had not had enough Kore rose from his bowl and stepped on it knocking it over looking to see if he could find more but there was none. Kore decided to make his way back to his bone to see if there was anything else he could possibly dig out of the hole.

Udo opened up his shop again, pulling out fresh ingredients and starting to prepare them. Of course he would make it seem like they needed to work for their food, but in reality it really was a little chilly, and Udo was biased and favored udon instead of hot cocoa for warming the belly. Not that there was anything wrong with cocoa, udon just had more substance. With a small smile on his face, he asked his next question. "If you are injured, which three women can you see for medical attention in the clinic?"

"You can go to Kumiko-san for more than just medical stuff too," Orika added slyly as she walked into the shop, immediately blanching from the immense heat. The girl had gotten used to the cooling winds of the forest and wasn't sure that she wanted a hot bowl of udon. Nevertheless, she kind of liked this question game and would stay for at least that. Orika hopped onto a stool by the counter where Udo was preparing their lunches and laid her copper-brown head down, the noodle fumes making her a bit drowsy. She'd been feeling restless ever since Udo banned physical activity during his game and the girl knew that she'd be out of control as soon as food hit her stomach so she had to burn off steam now! Sneakily, she waited until Udo had his head turned before sliding her hands underneath her butt and pressing her palms against the cool metal. Orika pushed off the chair with all her might, but try as she may, she couldn't get her whole behind to lift. Dang, she really needed some food!
