Rose snorted and picked up her pace to come along side him. "It's not mean, it's just fun." She pulled his mane and nipped him again, gently. Then she calmed down and settled into a walk beside him.
Emma laughed and flicked Rose's neck, just lightly and only enough for her to feel it. "Yeah Rose gets a little crazy at times. But it's a good thing he didn't kick her. She flicked Rose again as she pulled the stallion's mane and clucked in order to speed the mare up and get her away from the stallion, but the mare did nothing but toss her head."She also has a lack of listening."

August pricked up his ears as he was nipped again and he felt his mane tugged at. He snorted and pinned his ears back, he was not going to bite back, unstead he reached over and sniffed at the mare's neck, his ears prickeed back forward. "Well, for you maybe. I haven't had much exposure to other horses, so I suppose it's just surprising to me. And you're the first mare I've come into contact with for a very long time, a few yaers at least." He turned his head and kept it forward, now ready to listen to Shana. Almost all the horses were in the arena now. He was aware of Rose next to him, but his focus was now on Shana.
Shana laughed at Rose again as she nipped at her stallion once more. "Well, nice to know that they're now aquainted with one another. Yes, I'm glad that she didn't get kicked. August has always been the gentleman to other horses, when he's around them, and he's like a big puppy dog when it's just us and not performing. I love him so much. And don't worry, horses can get excited and be like that. I know plenty of horses who do. It's not just you" She smiled a friendly smile at Emma.

"Boy have you missed out on a bunch." This time Rose leveled her ears at Emma's flick, being more annoying than anything. She was tempted to turn her head and bite but knew better. She kept her ears back and oulled on the bit, wanting to go faster.
Emma loosened her grip on the reins slightly. "He does act like one, and he surely looks like one." She felt Rose still pulling on the reins and trying to get away from her. Giving the mare one last chance to quit acting up she pulled hard on the left rein turning the mare in a tight circle and then leading her back to August's side. "So what disipline are you here for? I'm a jumper."

"Hmm...Well, I have enjoyed my life though. Shana's been my partner and best friend for as long as I can remeber. I would do anything for her, even die. I wouldn't ever leave her. But it is nice to finally have some company of my own kind..." August noticed Rose's annoyance toward Emma. "Rose, it would do you well to listen to your rider. Don't be annoyed with her. Our riders try to do what they think is best for us..." August shook his head, snorting. He was getting very imaptient, but he held his temper...
Shana looked at Rose chomping at her bit. "She can be impatient too huh?" She also noticed August's snorting. "Aparently, so can August..." She chuckled at him. "Just hang in there love."

Emma ran a hand over her braided blond hair. "Impatient is an understatement. She's only been shown once and is only five so I'm hopeing she settles down a bit." Rose didn't like that statement and wrung her tail. "Ok not much because she's a wonderfull jumper and it's all that extra spunk that makes her so good." She patted the dark bay neck and loosened her grip on the reins.
Rose perked her ears and even managed a little prance at the compliment. She looked at August, still walking in a straight line. "I have never done anything to on purposely hurt Emma." It wasn't a straight out lie but close, as she had dumped her several times onto the arena floor and even tossed her off on a trail ride. "I would do anything she asks and yet I'll let her know if she did something wrong." As if to demonstrate this she leaned most of her weight to one side and then shifted it dangerously to the other on the next step.
Emma was ready for more of Rose's antics and when the mare suddenly shifted her weight she squeezed the horse's sides for a moment, as a warning. "Don't you even try it." She looked at Shana but kept most of her attention on Rose. "One thing about Rose is she'll tell you when you did something wrong. Either by unseating you or dumping you completely. That's why she was being sold in the first place. Her owners didn't have the extra time it would take to show her."

Mikuru changed direction and started to make Starlight trot. When she came beside Rose and August the slowed Starlight down to a walk. "I see you two are becoming friends" said Mikuru.Starlight reluctently obeyed Mikuru which he rarely did because they were so close. But he decided it was better to do as he was told rather than get kicked with the spurs which were sitting on the teacher's spot just incase.

Shana chuckled. "Yeah, August's cool temper and his breed makes him ideal for his work. We do dressage. We won the national championship last year. I was amazed, since we're so young. He's nine, I'm 15. It was quite a shock!"
August noticed Rose's prance, but did not say anything about it. "I know, but still...unseating your rider sometimes isn't the best way to let her know she's done something wrong. Crow-hopping would work better for you. It would let her know she's doning wrong, while keeping her safe at the same time." He looked Rose straight in the eyes without turning his head. Then he glanced over as Mikuru's gelding trotted up.
Shana opened her eyes wide. "Wow, she does have spunk." She watched as Emma gained control of her mare. "Wow, that was awsome. Ugh, I can't stand it when people buy a horse, then decide they don't have time for it, and sell it. But, you wouldn't have met Rose if they hadn't though, huh?" She looked over at Mikuru and smiled. "Yeah, I guess so. The horses seem to be getting along too."

"Her old owners weren't bad, they just didn't have the time and were going to sell her because they wanted her to have a chance to prove herself. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here and neither would Rose. They sold her to me for a dollar."
Rose swung her head towards the paint, in greeting, then returned her attention to August. "Hmm. I think I'll stick to dumping her. One it's funny and two she gets the point just fine, but I may just try out that crow-hopping." She smirked and shook her mane, wanting to get on with the jumping.
Emma sat open mouthed for a bit before forcing a more polite form of shock. "National champions! Oh holy cow, a pair of national champions at the same barn as me. Who new." She smiled at Shana, wondering what more a national champion could learn. Noticing Rose's impatience she looked over to Mikuru, "So what exactly do you want us to do. I afriad that if Rose donesn't get moving soon she'll start acting up." She could feel Rose bunch her muscles and pull on the reins.

"Wow, a dollar? That's a steal! She's a great horse too, besides the dumping part. I've raised August since he was born. His mother died at birth, so I raised him myself."
August snorted and shook his head. "I'm sure she does, but crow-hopping gets the poitnt across at the same moment she makes the makes the mistake, giving her time to correct herself faster. Then you won't have a reason to dump her..." August heard Emma's comment about Shana and him winning the nationals and smirked at her reaction before tensing up as well.
Shana laughed at Emma's reaction. "Oh come on, it's just a title...nothing to really brag about. I've been working on teaching August ballet movements, like the levade and the capriole, stuff like that. His levade work is coming along nicely. I'll show you when it's our turn." She turned her attention to Mikuru as well, waiting for instructions. August tensed as well, growing more impatient by the minute...Then Shana slapped her forhead. "OH MY GOSH!! My 16th birthday's in 3 days! I can't believe I forgot that. I guess I was so excited about this that I forgot my own birthday!" She laughed out loud at herself.

"Well let's think what shall I make you do" said Mikuru. "Well for you dressage people we will do some figure eights and for you jumper people we can do the how high you can jump game" said Mikuru who dissmounted Starlight and set up the jumps. "So who wants to go first?" asked Mikuru.

"I will!! Come on August." She could feel August quiver beneath her. Shana gathered up her reins and sat tall, got her correct position and urged August forward. She got August to collect himslef at the trot, then he moved gracefully into the first two corners, then cut across the arena and into the last two corners in the opposite direction. Shana asked him to move off the wall, which he did immediately and she turned him across the arena again to complete a figure eight. She pulled him to a perfect square halt at the end. "Darn it, I should have asked you for a passage when crossing the arena..." She patted his neck and went to stand beside Rose and Emma again.
August remained collected as he walked to stand by Rose again. His nose was almost to his chest. He felt Shana relax and he did so as well, lifting his head and downshifting back into his relaxed position, no longer collected. He sighed. "I wish I had done a passage then. That would have looked so much better then just a simple collected trot..." She sighed again.

Emma oogled at the sight, she had always liked to watch dressage and the connection between the pair was obvious. "You can say it's just a title all you want. I beleive that you two earned it." She stored the thought of Shana's 16th birthday in three days and made a note to find something for the girl. Thinking about the highest she had jumped she looked back at Mikuru. "Um...you want me to go now?"
Rose watched August preform, thinking that he was a little bit of a show off, but then she was too. "Don't beat yourself up. That was beautifull." She stomped and pranced, eyeing the jumps. She wanted to show them how good she was.

Shana shrugged her shoulders. "Well, thanks. But that's all it is to me. And the fact that one of my goals is accomplished. I swear I didn't think we would win though. There was some very stiff competition...Oh I can't wait to see you jump!" She smiled at Emma encouragingly.
August snorted. "Well, thank you, but it would have looked better all the same." August eyed Rose as she pranced about. "Seems to me that your ready to jump, Rose.." He stood quietly and waited for their next turn.

"No I can go" said Mikuru. Mikuru made Starlight canter when he obeyed her she started to look at the jump. When she jumped just like she did at Spruce Medows when she got first place she walked back to line and waited for either Emma or Melody to do their course. "Good boy Starlight!" said Mikuru."That was just a lousy crosspole" said Starlight."Hey don't you dare start ranting on and on about how we won the Sunlife Financial cup and about 10000000 dollars" said Mikuru."I wasn't going to I was just going to give them some incuragment!" said Starlight.

Emma watched Starlight and Mikuru jump perfectly, twisting her hands around the reins. "Alright Rose it's our turn." She patted the horse's neck and clucked her forward, into a trot and then a canter. Feeling Rose tremble beneath her she cantered her past the jump and then turned back to face the jump. Changing into a gallop a few strides before the jump and then takeing off. The pair breathed together, Rose tucking her hooves neatly and Emma leaning forward at the perfect moment. Rose touched down and slowed to a canter, then a trot and finaly a walk, coming to a stop by August's side. "Good job, girl." She leaned forward and stroked her neck.
Rose was tempted to pull on the reins and turn for another go at the jump, if Emma would let her she would have jumped over and over, never getting tired of the jump. Instead she followed the cues and came back to the others, ears forward nostrils flared and muscles showing. "Come on set up more jumps. I want to jump, not play around with a single crosspole." She snorted and pawed at the ground.
