All my dolls are DOD DOCs, but it does seem to me that not a lot of people even look at my threads or DOD threads unless they are newer dolls.
Where's the love for Mir? Where?

I just seem to make it a point to comment mostly on DOD threads. A lot of people say DOD is cheap and too common but I say CP molds are just as common if not more, but they get lots more veiws and comments. D:

I'm just gonna keep getting DOCs! DOD POWER!

Another thing that bothers me with DOA is the fact that they are so strict.
If you go off-topic, they don't tell you that you need to stay on topic. nope, they lock your thread.
Sometimes people enjoy chatting about something other than dolls.
I don't think there is even a General Discussion place. -_-

Edit: I was just messaged by a mod on DOA. Apparently, you also can't post more than one post in a row. I didn't know that.
You have to wait for another user to respond before you can post again on the topic.
I understand that they do it to prevent Spam but even if it's an on-topic post, it's still not allowed. -_-

Overall, I can't say I'm disappointed with DoA. It's the best resource on many, many aspects of the hobby and that is what I predominantly use it for.

I used to post pictures and whatnot, but now I just lurk and post on gallery threads I like. I just post my pictures on my LJ now. It's made me care much less about the whole, 'Omg, my doll isn't popular, I barely get any comments, baaaw! T^T'

As for the 'strictness', yes DoA definitely has rules but I have never had a problem with them so I can't really complain about them. I think the only thing I could really 'complain' about is the whole critique thing. I am someone who tries to give honest, constructive crits and even though I'm not really a mean person I always worry I'm going to get a warning for actually critiquing something honestly. :C

No, I'm pretty happy with it. I think it's a pretty good forum, though DoD is sometimes a nice change of pace. ^-^

Excuse me if I come off as rude, but Duae; who are you? I can't find your post in the introduction thread, is Duae your username on DoA as well?

You sound a bit biased, and a bit like you're in here to try to start a fight - your posts aren't debatable, they're accusative and not in relation to the subject.

This actually sums up a lot of the problems I've had over the years with DoA and the people who favor/run it.

If someone criticizes anything, or even asks a question, deliberately or no, that they don't like, find appropriate, or are tired of hearing, they will immediately go at the person. "Who are you again? What's your post count? Well, how long have you been a member? What dolls do you own? How much do you know about [random question related to an obscure bit of doll trivia or really technical stuff that only dedicated initiates would know, using all kinds of jargon]."

The fact that you went to DoA and searched for her posts is weird and random. What was the point? It sounds like you're trying to catch her up for being a n00b, and you're definitely trying to make her look like a troll, for having an opinion you don't agree with.

I personally hate the DoA forum, because when I was new to dolls, they were extremely rude to me, their stickies and links were either horribly organized or dead, and if someone asked questions that were at one time answered in them, they were mocked or dismissed as not being as hardcore/dedicated/serious about the hobby as the others were. Very nearly all of the elitism I have seen in this hobby have come from the people on that site.

The BJD panel at my local anime convention used to be run by people from DoA, and they would spend the entire panel trash talking anything that wasn't a Volks as not being a real dollfie. I was told I couldn't bring my dollfies to the panel, as it wasn't for them, only for super-dollfies. It's not like that now, because a wonderful woman who stresses inclusion and personal taste runs it, because so many people were put off by the old panel.

I'm disappointed in DoA because it gets away with a lot of condescending elitism because "it's the largest English-language BJD site!" In my experience with the site, it doesn't promote the love of dolls, but rather, the love of certain kinds of dolls, and the condemnation of anything outside that box.

I have to agree that is so true. The only reason I go there is for the marketplace, otherwise I find it pretty much useless. I started a meet up thread and right away I got very rude answers saying I can have whatever opinions etc etc.

The other thing you pointed out was molds. If your dolls, often aren't Volks, CP or Hound or limiteds, very few people will check your thread. neutral scream

There isn't a general discussion place to like make friends, to talk about other things other than dolls. I know they are trying to keep trolls away or annoying people like on GD here gonk

And what's the deal with the catty attitude that seems to come with almost every other DoA regular? I don't know what it is, but DoA seems to me a gathering place for some of the most (and pardon me) unforgiving bitches I have ever encountered in any BJD community. Any website that has to put up 30+ stickies on how to post is really really intimidating and the cold aura hovering the place is adding to it. I do realize that it is their website and there's nothing we can do about it, but good god, it reeks of capitalism and poisoned welcomes.

Even as I type this I feel like the Mod Squad is gana come down on me with some rude lecture-warning.

I have had instances where people would say rude comments
to me, and because the thread would get 'out of line' even before I could
have a chance to respond, they lock it, and then punish me! And in this
instance, I know I did nothing wrong at all, because numerous DOA members
messaged me saying how outraged they were at the mod who punished
me for no reason, when I was the one being attacked.

And they have dry humor -.- Like... you cant have a little fun on the forums
some time~ I know one of the mods in real life, and she made a comment
to me at a doll meet because of a post I had D: It was my fault, but some
of the members.... sheesh~ They can't laugh about anything that they don't
read in the bible~ Buncha yuppies -.-

I dun really disappointed on DOA. Well I hardly join forum so DOA is the only forum I am active in. I feel they just want to respect the hobby and for being strict, they wanted to protect ppl from flaming and scamming there. Especially the marketplace there. We are not dealing with stuff that few dollars but hundreds. So the mods just try their best to keep the forum run smoothly only. Moreover is a pretty hard job for them also.

I pretty much agree w/ poster above me.
It's a very expensive hobby & with them running a marketplace in their forum I don't blame them for being strict. I have yet to experience ANY elitism, tho I've only been there a month, but my best friend's been on there for quite some time and she feels really welcomed. Elitism is likely to happen in any hobby/group. Hell I get it in the pro choice guild here sometimes. Its just because some people are jerks. That's not the forum's fault. And while I kind of wish DoA did have a chatter thread/forum, I suppose PMs and such can suffice and that someone else could always set up an extra forum just for chatter w/ the DoA crowd. DoA mods have an awful lot to look after as it is!

anything that wasn't a Volks as not being a real dollfie. I was told I couldn't bring my dollfies to the panel, as it wasn't for them, only for super-dollfies.

This is the technicality that was pointed out to me by a friend when I referred to all of our dolls as Dollfies and was corrected that my Elle was a Dollfie but the rest were ABJD/BJDs

"Dollfie" is a term coined by Volks for their dolls. While it is used in a wide sense to include all dolls (we usually refer to things as SD, MSD, etc for ease), a "real Dollfie" is a Volks mold. (Hence their name is "Super Dollfie" "Mini Super Dollfie" "Dollfie Dream" etc)
Other companies rarely if ever use the term "Dollfie" or its acronyms. The dolls are usually referred to as 1/3, 1/4, 1/6 etc., labeled according to their actual measurements (70 cm, 60cm, 40 cm, etc), or by a company's own term (referring to Lati's color name system and Fairyland's MiniFee and Feeple terms)

Dollmore for example will catergorize clothes and items as SD and MSD because that is the easiest way to explain it (as we all know that SD covers the 60cm range and MSD the 40cm) but when it comes to their dolls, they are not called SD or MSD. Their "SD" is "Youth" and their "MSD" is Kid. Same goes for CerberusProject/Luts, they are referred to as Kids not MSD (Mini Super Dollfie).

So *TECHNICALLY* only Volks dolls are "true" "Dollfies" (I stress the term "TRUE" as an example with no grey area, just it is or isn't)

I can agree to this because I have seen many cute dolls be deemed "Off-topic" because of the criteria to be "on-topic" on the forum. The main thing that displeases me is a doll is chucked aside because it does not meet the "Asian aesthetic." Regardless if the doll was manufactured in Asia or not, if it does not meet that "aesthetic" look then it's "off-topic"

I gave up on DoA a long time ago.
I pretty much only used it to find meet-ups in the first place and now that I live in Oregon there's no use to even look because the closest people to me are in Portland (which is a 3+ hour drive that I'd rather not make without having someone with me).
I attempted to show Shi off when I first got her but I ended up getting the rudest(sp?) messages from people because her hair was out of place a lil bit or cause she had a few fly away hairs (lame reasons to b***h) or because her eyes looked crossed (Kiry set her eyes for me so I know they are not crossed, for whatever reason in pictures they look like they might be crossed though).
Oh, they would also b***h about the fast that she's a DOC Bee-A and they told me that her face-up was "not right for her".
Okay a wig I can understand but a face-up, are you kidding me?!?
It's the one she came with and I love it!
The only time I would change it is if it's getting worn off or chipped, that's it.
So yeah, I gave up on DoA really fast.

What I hate about this community is that you cant say anything mean about a company.. you can't have serious debate because of the CHILDRENS!! - you cant really do much at all...

but if you go to a community like, say, Den of Demons, they're even worse! You're chased out if you accidentally necro a thread, if your rant isnt good enough, if you have a different opinion, hell, if they just dont like you, they harass you and tell you to hang yourself, etc...

So where do you go?

I'm not going to agree with this. confused
If you are talking about DoA, you really shouldn't be badmouthing anything there. Though I get the feeling (correct me if I'm wrong) they'll tend to be more flexible with negativity directed at minor companies like DZ and Bobobie.

But in most other communities, it is acceptable to be a bit more opinionated.

DoD is just NOT a good place for n00bs. They're definitely more intellectual there and don't take kindly to people who act...well, n00bish. DoD is more open for debates and opinions but you just have to back it up throughly.

Gee, that's funny, I've been lurking for over a year and I've never seen them say anything like "hang yourself". rolleyes Also, they usually b***h at people cause saidpeople are being bloody retarded idiots. Likewise, you're not gonna get chased out for necroing unless you're a total dumbass about it. So uh, nice exaggerations there.

Obviously, though, if that's what you think of it, then it's not the forum for you. Try Resinality? If you're 18 or over, anyway. Or as the previous poster said.. stay here.

Honestly, the thing I find disappointing on DoA most often is the people themselves, but I suppose it's bound to happen with so many people on the same board. -shrug- So I only use it for information/picture look-ups, or the marketplace; problem solved~
Though lately, from what I've read, I do think the mods should be quite a bit more hands off in the marketplace with problem transactions and such. I think it's silly to delete comments/questions that are 100% appropriate to the thread for whatever reason they have. :/ But that's just my opinion on it.

But yeah, for a big giant forum like it is, I suppose it's ok. It's just not the kind of forum I prefer, personally.
