Lauren awoke to a knock at the door. She breathed deeply, terribly deeply. It must of been morning. The clock next to her said 6 a.m. but for all she knew it was another day even difference from L.A. She hid Mr. Moose under the bed as normal and went to answer the door in her worn and torn clothing. Her arm ached as well as her neck.
"Must be the clothes that Doc creep sent me." But she would never think the Doc to put all those hearts and smilies upon the package. And it was sent so fast, as if they prepared before today for her to need clothes as if they really were watching her before that day James came to the decaying building she called home. She didn't trust the Doc after last nights dream. Sure it was just a dream but was that really just a shot she received. She was here for scientific observation. She should expect to be a guinea pig. Nice things like these came with huge price tags. And she knew it wasn't money she was gonna pay.
She went inside and took another shower, putting on the clothing afterwards. She could get used to this clean thing although it was kind of weird. Reminded her of how things were before the streets, of how she was before the streets. Reminded her of the abuse she endured before.... Nope, Lauren was dead. It's Thorn now you're Thorn. She searched through her belongings and luckily found her marker. Red mesh shirt with the clean black tank underneath needed some personalization. Lauren simply wrote Thorn sloppily across the front. She took out the pants. They were black with huge chains hanging down from the belt. She slipped those on. She also found some nice shiny black boots but unfortunately the hills made her already tall self appear 6'3'' instead of 5'11''. She shrugged this off when she thought of how intimidating she would be then and slipped them on. Thorns patted her tummy as her stomach grumbled. She decided to make the best out of things and go out and about for her number one motivator, food. Her metabolism had always been incredibly high so she needed to constantly eat. The streets never allowed this but today she was going to pig out. She went out her door in search for the cafe the Doc creep mentioned.

Lauren ran into her room. She loved tearing into things so this was going to be awesome. She started with that ******** fish on the wall, she hated that fish. SMASH Nothing there.... She tore everything around looked in every crevice. Nothing was remotely obvious so she knew that it had to be small. She had searched under her bed several times, broke all the lamps and tore the blankets to shreds. It seemed all her past anger was put into this search as it became more than paranoia, it was some wicked therapy!
s**t, the tv, she bashed the thing, kicked it in. If this was a reality tv show, she never wanted to watch tv again. She knew people were lying to her, all sorts of lies. Maybe she was going a bit too far with this but she didn't care. She went from nothing to this, she could just have a bunch of debree laying around her floor and it would still be better than what she had at the 'palace'. Her street friends called it the palace at least but it was really a dump full of lost kids like herself. It just wasn't outside although with the number of roaches and the leaky roofs it might as well have been.
She broke everything she thought would have a camera until she landed on a pile mixed with pillow fluff and broken chairs. A splinter jabbed into her back but she was too exhausted to get up.
Nothing
And then in her once perfect room torn to shreds... she fell asleep.

A sheet of paper with pencil writing on it has been slid under Lauren''s door. It reads: Quote: Hey Thorn. I swung by here around 3 pm but couldn't find you. New s**t has come to light which you should know about. Your instincts were right, and the Dr. Moreau is a creep. Except I do not think his purpose in life is to sell teenage pornography. But I think it would be easier to describe the new info in person. So if you run into Greer or Matthew or me, we can bring you up to speed on this new s**t. I'm in Duplex #12, Greer is in Duplex#4. Whatever happens, DON'T LET THEM INJECT YOU AGAIN. The Dude.

An envelope is slipped under your door. It has a fancy M with an actual wax seal as you open it it says. Letter To My Dear Guest, Please meet my escort at the gate tonight at 7pm for a private dinner in the mansion of Dr. Moreau. We have much to discuss and offers to make. This is a special invite, and is only going out to a few members of our "community". Please keep this to yourself to avoid sparking jelousy. Sincerly, Dr. Nicholas Moreau

Timothy Timothy walked along the beach, the sound of the waves beating against the shore and the smell of salt in the air. My heart is beating like the waves to the shore...He'd grown in Kansas, he wasn't used to all this. Still, it was peaceful. It let him think. Damn it was hot though. ...this heat in my chest. I can't take no more.Truthfully though, things didn't seem that bad here. Timothy was just used to feeling glum. Thorn Lauren was turning into a bit of a beach bum lately. Before she came onto the streets, she loved swimming and was even on the high school swim team. It was nice for her to explore that lost part of herself again. She was coming out of the water for a break when she saw someone she didn't recognize approach. He looked around her age and rather over dressed for the beach. Still she didn't like her scrawny body to be seen so she quickly wrapped herself in a saroung before she met with the person. "Hey," she greeted rather shortly. "You new here?" Timothy Timothy looked up when he saw this thin girl talking to him. "Oh... hi." he said quietly. Skeletons lit by the light of the sun...That was rude, he thought to himself, she wasn't that skinny. He began to drift off again and then caught himself. He didn't wanna be rude. "Ah... I'm... Timothy." he said and sort of half smiled, his eyes looking away from her. Oh she was going to think he was such a loser, which he was. ...their skulls mock and tease me.Thorn Thorn shrugged a bit. This was going to be awkward, Timothy seemed to be the shy type and Lauren always scared away the shy sort. Ah well, she couldn't help who she was. "Thorn." She introduced herself. "Have you met the Doc yet? He's pretty cool for an old rich guy, seems to understand psychos like me." She laughed a little. "So, you play that thing or is it just for show?" She said eyeing the guitar on Timothy's back. Timothy Your pricking thorns... ...make me bleed."Thorn... right... cool." Timothy shrugged and smiled. She seemed nice enough, looked a litle scarey though. "No I haven't met this doctor." What did she mean by psychos like her? Kind of a weird statement he guessed. But this was supposed to be an artistic resort. He knew as well as anyone that artists could be kind of weird. He wondered if this Doctor really was a Doctor, I mean maybe it was a title and all. He'd met Dr. Lockheart but maybe she was just the island physician or something. Course that was a large lab complex just for a few scrape and cut emergencies. Just what was going on here? Oh, hell, she was asking about his guitar. "Ahhh... yeah, I play, not very good though." well Timothy didn't think he was atleast. Thorn Thorn kind of smirked. Geese, he was shy, wouldn't even look at her face most of the time. Just kept staring at the sand like it was interesting. She wondered what kind of animal the doc picked for him and knew that even if she guessed it would be totally off. She liked being in the know at least, gave her an advantage to situations and gave her an excuse to lie. "Heh," She put her hands on her bony hips. "Bet if you carry that thing around all the time, you're good." She looked towards the sea for a bit. "Music is great but I'm shitty with it. I draw myself, other people can do the creating." She kind of shifted a bit wanting to know what lie the doc fed the poor guy. Her mind swirled with a mix of feeling sorry for the poor dork and wondering what he would be like during his change. Timothy "I don't... think so." he felt nervous, maybe he should play something. But that'd be showing off and he didn't really do that. Still it might stop the akward conversation. Trying to speak but I'm not finding the words...Oh, she did like music, well that made it a bit easier. "Yeah, I love music. Almost my whole life." ...then the words come out and they don't sound quite right.Oh come on, think of something else to say, think think. This is why he never did well with women. He just sort of shifted nervously and tried to think of something else to say. thorn Thorn put her wet bleach blonde hair up into a pony tail and started dusting the sand off her scarred arms. This is pretty awkward... was a strong thought in her mind right now. But she also liked people like this because she could play them like a fiddle. Easy to intimidate if needed. "Can't say it's ever been my entire life, never had things that easy." She bit her lip hard then looked at him. "So what kind of music do you play?" She was guessing it probably wasn't the kind she liked but then again she could bring herself around to tolerating any kind. She wished he would talk more... if this goes on her stay at the beach may be shortened to escape from the lack of conversation. Timothy "Yeah, haven't had it easy either... know how you feel." Timothy shrugged and began to pull the strap around to the front with the guitar. My broken life, makes it harder and harder..."Soft stuff... I dunno... just stuff I feel." Timothy began to sing. " Skeletons lit by the light of the sun... ...their skulls mock and tease me.
Then I saw you against the grey... ...your colors strong, mine had gone out.
Your pricking thorns... ...that make me bleed.
It's in darkest nights... ...that I believe.
Save me... from myself. Take me... somewhere else.
My heart is beating like the waves to the shore... ...this heat in my chest. I can't take no more.
Trying to speak but not finding the words... ...then the words come out and they don't sound quite right.
Your pricking thorns... ...that make me bleed.
It's in darkest nights... ...that I believe.
Save me... from myself. Take me... somewhere else."
He stopped playing, looking away, worried that he wouldn't get approval for the song, worried he would. It was horrible, I mean he'd just made it up.Thorn "Damn, nice voice." Thorn said and she meant it. Sure it was more down than most of the stuff she listened to, she wanted to hide from her pain instead of being reminded of it. "Wish I had talent." She said with her head down. She didn't really show people her comic art, but when she was bored and alone she created a comic of her life with her as the main character. It was a kind of therapy, to take herself out of the real and make herself the heroine. Of course, she would never show some of the episodes. "I draw a bit... but it's nothing serious." She shrugged. "Kind of hard having all this time now and not having s**t to do." the island took away most of her usual daily worries and adventures. Having to replace them was really hard. That's why she was at the beach after all. "So you wrote that?!" She was trying to be nice today after all she was in a good mood since the direction of her life changed. Timothy Timothy nodded a bit about the line "I wish I had talent", he didn't like being confronted by people's own inadaquacies. He had plenty of his own to worry about. Actually Timothy liked all this time with nothing to do, but he wasn't used to doing much. Besides playing, and singing, and writing, which he was doing now. "I like art... what... umm do you draw?" he looked away at his question. He knew it was bad to ask that, it's like people asking what you play... which she had done. Before she answered she popped her questions of the song. "Yeah... I wrote it," as he looked down again. "Just now..." Thorn Thorn sat down on her towel looking at the ocean a bit kind of lost in her own little world. Timothy seemed like a nice enough guy whose already felt pain, her conscious was nagging at her. Yeah, she was tough but she was still a person. Still, maybe he would be like her when it came down to things and finally feel like he belonged somewhere. And he wrote the song just now... wow! She knew that some of it had to have her in it, or maybe that was just her being the center of the world. Damnit, was she really THAT skinny? It's not like she wanted to be. She shrugged off that insecurity. "Comics mostly." She replied. This was not going well... she was getting angry. But there were some parts of the song that were flattering if it were about her. She breathed deeply. If she were to help Moreau out she would have to control her anger and make people feel welcomed but damn it was hard. Then she smiled as she realized that even if he did think of her as a skeleton, he would get his pain soon. A flash of intuition, "So you're here for your music?" She smiled thinking about him turning into a human mouse or a pig, that was a pleasant thought. Timothy "Yeah... to practice my music here." he shrugged. "Beats working graveyards in a fast food resturant." Atleast he was honest, but now he sort of wished she'd go away. He wasn't fond of comics much either, generally too cheery, real life wasn't like that. He wasn't good with people, and though he thought she was okay. He wanted to go back to working on his music. Maybe he shouldn't have sang that song, what if she caught on to the parts of it about her. Besides that should he really sing a song that involves love when he'd never known it himself. "I'm gonna go...uhhh get something to drink at my place." Timothy was thirsty after the little singing sessions, but mostly he just wanted some space again. People made him far too nervous, no wonder he'd never had a girlfriend. Thorn So that's how the doc trapped this one in was all she could think of. It was harder than she thought being in the know. "Hell, yeah it does! Though I never had a job myself, I avoid those s**t jobs all together. Easier living on the streets, plus can't get a job as a runaway." Thorn sighed with relief. Finally a way out."Well, have fun, getting that drink and all." She kind of laughed a bit at the situation. Damn this was awkward. It's easier to be a b***h sometimes. "I'm gonna stick around and swim a couple more hours before I head to my place. Duplex 10 if ya wanna visit again... or more likely if ya wanna avoid me." She smirked a bit.

Doc There was a buzz at Lauren's intercom fairly late at night, when most had gone to bed. An unfamilar voice came through the silver intercom with the phone style buttons. "Miss Granger, Dr. Moreau is on his way to see you?" Lauren Lauren was up late drawing out her comic again. A pile of papers were spread across her floor of different scenes, most centering on her and life on the island. She was just working on the scene where Thorn the super heroine was joining forces with Dr. Moreau who took more of a role like Q for James Bond. "What?!" She said at the intercom. "What did I do?!" She hoped he wasn't mad at her stealing the spray paint from the utility closet. She hadn't used it.... yet. Doc There was a short knock on the door only moments after that message. "Lauren, it's the Doctor, let me in." Lauren Well... so much for an answer... Lauren thought as she hid the spray cans under the bed hoping that wasn't a problem. After all he did offer her anything she needed there were just times when it was more exciting to steal than to ask. "Just a minute!" She yelled at the door as she rushed over to answer. "Hey Doc? Anything the matter?" She tried her best to look as innocent as possible but that was nearly impossible for someone like her. Doc The doctor walked in the door and half smiled. He moved into the room and sat on the bed. "How are you doing out here Lauren?" Moreau found himself very reluctant to call her something as silly as Thorn. He did realize she didn't like Ms. Granger he was hoping this would suffice. "I'm just wanting to check on your status, you'll be due your next shot soon." Lauren Lauren was a bit nervous at the doctor sitting on her bed. She knew if he were a perv he would have done something already. She hoped that wasn't the case cause she was starting to trust him. "I'm good. I am spending tons of time swimming but haven't met many new people." She looked down a bit. "I have a hard time at that I guess" She thought about how she scared Timothy away and how Karma seemed to be scared away as well. She was even trying her hardest not to scare anyone. She perked up surprisingly when she heard of her next shot. Her head swirled a mixture of wonder and worry, "OH really wow! ********' A!" She sat on the floor relaxing a bit. "What will happen? Will I be all fury like Subject 002 and will I get cool ears?!" And then a worried look. "Will it hurt? I mean I'm tough I can take the pain but I like to know." Doc "It's good to interact with people, I want to know if you hear about anything they might be planning. Even if I probably already know. I don't think they have any way to escape, I've made this island fail safe. But I find it interesting." Moreau smiled a bit wickedly at this thought. "As far as your first transformation. It will likely hurt, I can deliver some painkiller if you want. But I can't predict when it will happen after the injection. Seems to be different depending on the person." Moreau shrugged. "As far the physical effects, not sure, probably something similar with your own little bent, again, I know my serums work, I don't know how each individual one will affect each individual person." Moreau smiled at this answer. He also found himself particurally fond of her refering to Ambrose by his subject number. He wondered if she was intelligent enough to educate and study the sciences. Lauren She kind of twitched at him wanting her to react with people, "I'll try Doc but I still think they hate me. Besides... they're different and weak. They don't know what it's like to live a hard life." She smirked mischeviously. "There is no way they're smart enough to escape." She frowned at his answer to her question. She was hoping to get it straight up but she knew the doc didn't know. After all, he had to experiment before he knew and that's where she came in. "I don't want pain killers, I don't trust drugs. You've already got me takin' this thing in, I can deal with the pain." She remembered her friends buying pain killers and acting dumb the rest of the night. She prefered to stay in her own state of mind, there she knew what was real. "Just preparing for the pain." Doc "Well, that's fine then. I respect not wanting the pain killers.." Moreau grinned proudly. "As far as your interactions, I think you'll find it something to do here. Though your right, they can be a bit, benieth the heal sometimes." "Lauren had you had the chance, would you have continued your education?" Moreau decided to sort of test his thought out on her. Lauren Lauren tensed up again. He was poking the old Lauren... the Lauren before the streets. She had been pretty good at school and even loved school but had to leave. The streets made her transform to survive. "well... uh... Well I've kind of put that part of me out of my head. It's too late now." She couldn't switch that easily but it was obvious the tough girl facade was down. Doc "I don't know... I'd be interested in teaching you. I'm not talking about school and studying lots of subjects. I would teach you hard sciences. How did you do in science?" he paused before letting her answer. "I'm sure Aubrey would help, and perhaps we can arrange some private lessons with James on hand to hand fighting." he wouldn't let her get her hands on a gun of course, and he hoped that she would find the sciences more interesting, but if there was one thing he knew how to do well it was manipulate people. "I'll teach you, when I'm not too wrapped up in research of course, it comes first. If you prove apt, I'll continue your studies. If you don't, well, it's not like your expected to have a job here." Moreau grinned, he had a very low tolerance. Lauren She regained her composure, "Don't know Doc... I'm not all that bright really." Better to lie than to fail, that's her motto. "I'll roll it over in my head... kay?" She hoped that was an alright response. On one hand she didn't want to turn down exploring her true self but on the other hand she had no clue who her true self was anymore. Life was so confusing. "I bet you went to Harvard or something, no way my old man could ever afford that between the booze and all." Doc "I don't like indecision Lauren. This is quite the offer, I can give you a Harvard level science education. But indecision is a sign of weakness in my opinion. To use your own words." Moreau grinned. "What have you got to loose? I'll let you know if you don't make the cut." Lauren A look of shock at her surprise to guessing his school came to Lauren's eyes. He was challenging her, if she backed out she was the street bum he thought her to be, if she went for it she risked humiliation of actually being proven to still be a street bum. But she had a chance and she would at least look tough. "Kay Doc, tell me when to start. It's not like I have much planned or can go anywhere. I might as well make the best of things." Part of her knew he played her like a fiddle but that part also let him. She liked the attention. Doc "Excellent, we'll say, 9:00 A.M. sharp tomorrow?" Moreau grinned, he was still testing her. He realized that she must know this, she was much smarter than his first impressions had lead him to believe. But she had that cold indifferent side that leant itself to science, specifically his science. "Meet me outside the gate, we'll begin your first lessons. I warn you, I may change the date and times as needed. Even cancel some lessons if something more pressing comes up. But with some dedication and work, you could one day be working with me and doing your own injections." he patted her shoulder. "I think this is going to be interesting." Moreau was a researcher, and suddenly his curiousity had him. Could he turn this punk badgirl into atleast a punk badgirl scientist. The decision was hers, he felt, from his discussions with her that if she worked hard enough, she was smart enough. To a point, Moreau realized he was enjoying the idea of a corrupted protege. Lauren The idea of someday injecting people is what sold her. She remembered the feelings that stirred inside her when she watched Ambrose transform. It was almost like revenge had been taken out upon every rich boy that could never know what it was like to starve for a week straight. She smiled at the idea of inflicting that revenge towards those she wanted. Everyone around her would know how she felt. If that wasn't motivation to wake up in the morning, she didn't know what was. "I'll be there with bells on." She said. Geese, she was already sounding like a dorky scientist. "Black bells...." Ok, that wasn't a save at all. She winced at his touch. She wasn't ready for that but somehow it made her feel good, like a hole in her life was being filled. "Hell, you think it is interesting, wait till ya have to deal with me nearly everyday." She smiled cheesily. For once she could be the good girl. "Well Doc, I'm going to have to kick ya out. I have to get up bright and early and that's not something I'm used to. Don't wanna be late my first day of class." She had vague memories of hating to be late for school but she wondered how often that was more an escape from home. Doc "Alright, I'll go, see you in the morning Lauren." he smiled, he'd need to go back and figure out what he'd be teaching her specifically. He'd probably take her in the lab and test her general knowledge, see what level he was looking at teaching. Maybe he'd even order some science text books. This prospect was getting him excited. He walked out and back to the labs and mansion deep in thought.

This RP took place about a day or two after the "unveiling" of the Beach Bar. Sorry if I posted it too early or too late. I'm sure Moreau can move it around for you if need be. But it occured in Lauren's duplex and so belongs into Laurne's diary, I figured. The Dude The Dude ran up the stairs to the door with a metal 10 on it. If his memory was correct, 10 was the number that Thorn told him way back when they first meet on the beach. The events of yesterday and the talk that he had with Emelyn this morning made the Dude reconsider his actions. And he also wanted to figure out what was going on with Thorn - she had looked like a someone kicked her the last time he saw her. After he woke up from that killer uppercut of hers ... Thorn Lauren was playing loud angry music in her duplex room and barely heard the knock at the door. She got up to answer the door noticing it was the Dude. And then she quickly shut the door in his face. The Dude The Dude sighed and knocked again: "Thorn, I gotta talk to you here. Don't be a kid." Thorn Thorn peeked out, the door chain now latched. "Why in the hell would YOU want to talk to me." She had no idea why he was here, if Thorn were The Dude she would be avoiding herself like the plague. "And, I'm not a kid!" She was tired of being called the kid of the island, being the immature weird punk girl all the adults gawked at with sorry eyes. The Dude The Dude made a sad puppy look and answered: "I came to say sorry, Thorn. I am really sorry. Can I please talk to you?" Thorn God, he looked so pathetic right now... with those whiskers and those big blue guilty eyes. Thorn thought as she unlatched the chain. "Come in." She said. "But if you try anything or say anything again to piss me off I'll knock you on your a** again." She opened the door motioning for him to come on in as she sat on her bed looking rather defensive. The Dude "Yes, ma'm" - the Dude nodded and walked in, closing the door behind him. He pulled up a chair and sat on it backwards opposite of Thorn. "Erm, I was way out of line back there on the beach. I am sorry. I mean - if you have decided that what Dr. Moreau is doing is important and you are willingly participating in his experiments, then I'd be the biggest d**k in the world to blame you for it. Me and Ambrose, we'd love nothing better if Dr. Moreau would switch to bringing volunteers to this island, not kidnap unwilling people." He paused, wanting to see how Thorn will receive his little speech. Thorn Thorn looked up. "I didn't choose to be on the island at first, I changed my mind. I had no clue what was going on until the Doc told me straight up. I don't know why he told ME straight up but he did." She kind of squirmed a little bit with her recent indecision of how she felt about all this mess. "But yeah, guess I'm the one who should be sorry." She said really really quietly. She wasn't one to apologize... ever. "You don't want to be here, probably have a good life with tons of friends somewhere. I can see why you'd want to hurt the man that took that from you." She looked him into the eyes. "But it's decided now, he's got us all under his thumb and we might as well accept the situation making the most out of it." She sighed a bit after saying that. The Dude The Dude grinned at Thorn: "I see." "Well, I actually don't really have much to look forward to, back home. The boat that crashed on this island was my home, so not only am I homeless now, without a passport and a car, I also have a few "friends" waiting for me back home that I'm not so keen on meeting. Long story." "Anyway, why I launched at Moreau - that was a bit stupid, I suppose. It's not like kicking his a** will remove the poison out of our blood. Whether he lives or dies - if we believe their words - we can't leave or we die of cancer. I'm not sure whether I believe it, since they have lied to us plenty already ... but I am not too keen on testing it out." - he scratched his head and shrugged. "But when I saw that smug face, I REALLY REALLY wanted to kick his scrawny a**." - there was pissed off determination in the Dude's face, his blue eyes narrowed "Sorry about that, again" - he caught himself. "And maaaaan, you pack a mean punch, girl." - he rubbed his jaw. "Never though I'd be knocked out by a girl ... errr ... no offense of course ..." Thorn Thorn looked a little sorry for the Dude. She didn't think he was the kind of guy that LIVED in his boat and didn't know that he lost his home. Now he was in her shoes. Seemed like he just didn't like the whole injection thing which she didn't blame him for that. She was not entirely keen on becoming an animal either but at least her animal was... cute. "Makes sense I guess. I was just trying to stop you at first... you know?" She frowned a bit. "But then you called me his lap dog... and were yelling in my face and I just lost it! I'm not his lap dog, alright!" Thorn's anger grew a bit more as the memory of how she felt from the names he threw at her that day came back to her mind. Then he told her she packed a punch. Had he no clue what really happened. Should she tell him what really happened? Maybe it was best to keep quiet about that right now. "Yeah, geuss me being a girl didn't make a whole lot of difference to your glass jaw." was all she said. The Dude "Sorry about the lap dog comment. Lost my cool there" - the Dude scratched his head again. Whoops, did her really say that? Crud, he remembered yelling at Thorn, and saying lots of four letter words. He was between him and that smug visage. God, the Moreau guy just ticked him off so badly. And the Dude really wasn't the guy to get ticked off that easily. But Moreau .... GRRRRRRRR Realizing that he was getting carried away with the inner monologue, the Dude waved his flipper at Thorn and grinned: "Yeah, no kiddin'. You've accomplished what a 270 pound pissed of Jamaican guy couldn't. I'm duely impressed. " Thorn Thorn shrugged, "It happens, it's all right. Not like you ever got the chance to hit me back. Felt kind of bad it all being me takin my anger out on you." She was kind of feeling guilty, especially about the kick to his crotch while he was down. That was just not right. "So, what made ya decide to come and apologise? I mean I was the one that beat the s**t out of you." She kind of snickered teasingly at that. Maybe Thorn would keep to the lie, after all she would have beat the s**t out of him had the doc gave her a chance. The Dude "Well, I dunno. I've thought about some things, talked to someone, which made me see certain things a bit different. And you kinda left in a huff there, so I was just checking up on you, whether you were still upset or not. Cuz I haven't seen you around much, that's all." - he shrugged and stretched in his chair. "I mean - we are gonna be here for a while, ya know? I'm trying not to make enemies." Thorn Lauren felt guilty for leaving like that. She felt even more guilty in him not knowing that it was the doc that knocked him out not her. But did she want to tell him the truth and risk him having even more reason to attack the doc. "Wasn't your fault I left like that. I was kind of pissed at the Doc that day myself. He treated me like s**t after he...arr...I knocked you out." Did she just let that slip? Damn... so much for that lie, she hoped he didn't catch it. What was with her? Normally lying was what she did best. "I don't like drunks either." Yeah, maybe he would focus on that. "Fair enough, I don't want enemies either. It just happens." Unlike him she had seemed to accept her fate as an outcast anywhere she went. The Doc was the only person she felt at home around. She hoped that could be mended. The Dude Huh? What was that about the Doc and knocking him out ... maybe he misheard. How in hell could the Doc knock him out at a distance, anyway? With his super snotty eyebrow wiggle? The Dude let that amusing thought be. The explanation that Thorn just got lucky with her punch was much more believable ... "Yeah, well, leave it to Moreau to treat somebody like s**t. I think he got that down to an art ... Heh ... I suppose we were starting to drink a bit. How come you don't like drunks?" Thorn Lauren was glad that the lie skirted his thoughts to another subject but why did she have to pick that one. She simply pointed to the five cigarette burns on her arm. "Old man liked to drink." She looked entirely cold and totally in pain. "Why did you think I ran away?" She leaned on her hand looking down, her blonde hair in hiding her face in case tears did come out. "Turned out that the streets were worse than him..." There was a long pause. Guess that would come out eventually and besides, it kind of felt good to let buried pain surface. The Dude There was a pause as the Dude gloomly looked at the burns, then at Thorn. "Well, think about it. You at least took charge there, ya know. You said no more and you left ... it takes guts to do that" - he finally spoke. Thorn Thorn looked up at the Dude, "yeah I know." She said quietly. "That's long gone now..." She tried to change the subject. "Things are different now! I have my own place, food, a tropical island to explore and I'm far far away from that mess! It's over and gone, hell he might even be dead." She laughed a bit through the pain. "So, that's why I didn't want you to hurt Moreau, he saved me... may not be the best of reasons but I'm still saved." Talking about things made it easier to sort out that she did indeed really like Moreau. He was the father she never had. She felt bad for writing 'Eat s**t Moreau' on the side of the gate last night with the spray paint she stole. The Dude "Well, I'm glad that you are happy here" - the Dude said simply. He had his out thoughts on Moreau and his "benefactor" status. He smiled at Thorn then stood up form his chair: "Well, I'm glad we've got this figured out, Thorn. Here, let's shake flippers on not being enemies" Thorn Thorn nodded, "Well... I think I am happy here." She got up with the dude and laughed. "Apology accepted but I don't have flippers, I'm turning into a yellow mongoose so I'll have paws." It was kind of disturbing how lightly Thorn took what she just said. She reached her hand out anyway and shook his webbed hands. "Though I have to admit, you look much better with a tan." Maybe she was taking the humor a bit far. The Dude "Heh, why thank you, Thorn. Just you wait till I grow me some fur. I'll be soft and huggable then, too." - he winked laughingly at her, shaking the offered hand. "Yellow mongoose, huh? Whatcha going to do? Eat snakes?" - he perked up. He has never heard of such an animal before, and was glad Thorn wasn't turning into something nasty. Thorn Thorn laughed loudly "HAH!" She exclaimed. "I didn't know sea lions had fur!" oops, did he know what he was turning into? Or maybe they did have fur it's just that she couldn't tell. The doc gave her lots of information about the subjects during her lessons, telling her what was happening as they transformed. The Dude was one he talked about, but she didn't remember fur being mentioned. "I have no ******** idea! I've not heard much about them." She really needed to look into what the hell a yellow mongoose was. The Dude "Oh, you know I'm gonna be a sea lion? Yeah, they do have fur. It's actually very thick and plushy because they need it to keep warm." - he smiled. "I've been reading about them a lot recently. It's a good thing to know what one's gonna become. And it's not liek I have anything better to do." Thorn Thorn laughed, "Yeah I knew." She replied. "It's good you know too. I would hate not to know." She smiled a bit... although nervously. "I'm going in for my second injection soon. I'm kind of nervous and excited at the same time." She sighed some more. Geese, she was doing that a lot recently. The Dude "That's cool" - the Dude nodded. "It's gonna be unpleasant though. I am not sure whether Moreau told you about that bit." Thorn "Yeah, I know" Lauren replied. "I'm preparing for it... mentally. The pain is going to suck but it shall only last a nights time... after each stage." Lauren was obviously aware of quite a bit more than she let on. "I can take it." The Dude "Erm .. yo know ... you can also take some pain killers. And if you need somebody to hang around you, like with ice and water and what not, I'd be happy to help. One's really ******** thirsty after that and I'm not sure about you, but having my fingers grow out like this really kind hurt. And, if you'd rather have a girl, I can ask Cassidy or Greer or Emelyn or something. " Thorn Thorn smiled kind of coldly, "Thanks, but I don't need anyone." She was stubborn, if she had to go through this pain she didn't want anyone around to see her. She wanted to go through it by herself. "But thanks, Doc offered pain killers and I refuse. I know, it's stupid but when you see your buddies pop pills the way I have you would rather go through the pain then stoop to their level. Probably going to have some nearby though... just in case." She was really stubborn but she at least was always prepared. The Dude "Okey. Suit yourself" - the Dude shrugged at the stuborness. He stood up and put his hands into his pocket. "Well, tell me or tell somebody if you need anyone, okey? We are al in the same boat, might as well help each other out." - he smiled. "Well, I suppose I'll be going here, letting you to your music and stuff." Thorn She smiled, the offer at least was nice and comforting. It was nice to not feel alone, another thing the doc had given her, as warped as it was. "I'll tell ya when I get the shot so you can stay by the coms. But I doubt I'll need ya." She walked him to the door. "Bye Dude, we should hang out more. I get all lonely by myself being the kid and all." And this was true, it seemed like most of the adults on the island have seperated into their own group as the kids were few. But at least she met Hargun recently and she seemed cool. The Dude "Sure thing, Thorn. I can teach you how to dive." - he grinned and walked out the door.

Doc Moreau walked towards the small duplex and knocked on the door. It was dark, and late, his favorite time to be out. Less people bothered him this late. He knocked on the door to Lauren's duplex. Thorn Lauren was up late as usual and wondered what was up with all the interaction today. First there was meeting Hargun, then the Dude's apology and now someone else. She was quietly drawing at the knock at the door. She went to answer it peeking out the peep hole at first... it was Moreau. She opened the door. "Hey" She said... acting abnormally shy and timid. doc "May I come in Lauren?" Moreau asked hoping she'd allow him. It was taking a bit of restraint to ask like this, but Moreau was on best behavior. Thorn Lauren looked at him with worried eyes, "Yeah, come on in." She motioned for him to come into the room which was scattered with papers everywhere and had been obvious she had taken time to personalize the place a bit with the spray paint she had stolen. Weird comic like figures were all over the wall, obviously characters of her own creation and some replications of others. But the over all effect was brass and punk but well done. doc Moreau nodded and looked around the room. "Very... nice." he said. Moreau sat on the bed again. "Listen Lauren, about the other day." Moreau sighed. "I had to set an example for the islanders, although I appreciate what you did for me. I'm, proud that I meant that much to you." Moreau seemed sincere, and he was... mostly. Thorn Lauren smiled. He was apologising. "I'm sorry too, it's just he was about to attack you, I had to step in." She sighed. "I had no clue you had that kind of power over us." She was near tears. Somehow her trust in him broke through all her walls. doc He wrapped his arms around her and patted her back. "It's just... for mine and all of your safety as well. I didn't want them hurting each other." Moreau smiled down at her. "Oh, I looked over the lab work and paper, your doing extremely well. I should be able to start you with advanced high school sciences." Moreau grinned. "Your very bright in there." Moreau wondered when he had allowed his own walls to slip so much that he had had to make this trip. Was he really that worried about what this girl thought of him. Thorn Lauren fell into the hug with so much trust. Normally she would flinch, punch the guy and then run away but for some reason his hug just brought out tears for a bit as she saw him smile. She held back from crying uncontrollably. "I did well!?" She asked as she wiped back her tears, she couldn't believe it. "And YOU think I'm bright." A streak of jealousy entered her mind... Aubrey's brighter. But of course there as a reason he said that earlier, she was his girlfriend. He had no reason to lie or exagerate Thorn's talents. doc "Well, class as usual tomorrow?" Moreau grinned at her. "I hope you've been enjoying them?" he said. I mean he always enjoyed science, why wouldn't anyone else. Thorn Lauren parted from his hug and wiped her tears. "Yeah, class tomorrow and I have been enjoying them. I like the hands on teaching and experimentation we have been doing. Are we going to disect something again?" She loved it when they disected that cat the other day, it was so fun to look around the cat's insides and get a feel for the creatures anatomy. doc "Ahhh perhaps, I can see about setting something up." Moreau patted her shoulder. He was tired now though. Moreau headed for the door to head out. "Well, have a good night Lauren, enjoy yourself." Thorn Lauren waved at the doc, "Bye doc, see ya in the morning... geuss I have to get to bed too." The hardest part of these classes to her has been getting up.

Attached to the front of your duplex door is a handwritten note with the Feral Labs logo in the top left corner. In a flowery script, the following message is written:
The Invitation You are cordially invited to a meet and greet Halloween costume party to take place Halloween night. The staff will be setting up a tent just for this occasion and will be catering, of course. We know that you most likely did not pack costumes, so if you will just leave a message with the staff (through the intercom) to let us know what you would like to dress as, we will be able to procure a costume for you. ~Aubrey heart
((OOC: The Halloween party will take place in a separate thread in the guild that will be made for the event. The event will last in real time from Friday Oct 28 till the end of actual Halloween, Monday the 31st. Feel free to come and go at your leisure. If you would like to get artwork of your character in costume, we can post it in the first post or two of the event thread - PM the art to Sabin Duvert and he will collect it to post when he builds the thread.))

The beginnings of the next stage...Lauren Granger Lauren was in her room working on her latest comic scenes. A pile of scientific sketches were in front of her on the floor as references to the other people on the island. She had amassed a collection of all of them, highly realistic and diagramed much unlike her normal art. Thorn was into her art so much, she nearly hit the cealing when her intercom buzzed right in her ear. Doctor Moreau A familar voice came through over the intercom. "Lauren, I need to see you in my lab, come to the facility the gates will be opened for you and the elevator should take you to the correct floor." Lauren Granger It was rather late for Thorn to be hearing from the Doc. She was happy to hear from him as usual though. "Alright Doc, I'll be right over!" She replied happily as she put away her sketches, throwing on her lab coat on the way out. The walk was short as Thron aproached the gates which did open for her just as the doc had said. She followed the docs instructions, playing the good daughter for him like usual. Comming to his lab, Thorn knocked on the door. "Hey Doc. I'm here! What's up?" Doctor Moreau "As you understand, since you have been so cooperative with me and such a pleasure to teach... atleast most of the time." Moreau smiled playfully at this. "I have delayed... progressing you as much as possible." "Obviously I did not want to risk your health of course, so I have been carefully monitoring your biometrics." Moreau walked to his cabinet. "And well Lauren, it's time." Lauren Granger Lauren raised an eyebrow, "That's unfortunette? Doc, you know I've been waiting for this since I came around to the idea. It's been a real b***h to see those low lifes change one by one and I still just have my preparatory Injection. Go ahead, shoot me up doc." Thinking back to the streets, Thorn never thought she would hear those words from her own mouth. Doctor Moreau Moreau grinned for a moment. It was easy with Lauren sometimes, she was very manipulatable. Moreau didn't bother to mention that the real reason he had delayed her injection so long was because she was perfect to study how long the prep injection could be given before the impending genetic instability started looking dangerous. "Very well Lauren, roll up your sleeve this will only take a moment." Moreau said as he inserted and tapped the needle. Lauren Granger Lauren grinned back at Moreau. He was so good to her, such a nice father who always took care of her much unlike that sperm donor she ran away from. She almost wanted to say something like O.K. Daddy but she knew that was entirely stupid and unprofessional. She obeyed again like an incredibly tall little girl would towards her father, rolling up her sleeves with a smile that couldn't get any larger. Doctor Moreau "Ahhh... here we go." Moreau inserted the needle into her arm and after injecting the serum, pulled it out. Moreau had choosen Lauren from a list, because he had read her background and knew she might be more easily persuaded. Moreau had been rather miffed when she had attempted to turn down his offer. Luckily he had the legal grounds to make sure she came here and eventually she came into the fold. "There you are Lauren..." Moreau smiled. "You can head back now, the first part of the change can be disorienting and rather disturbing, so I'm going to assure you sleep through it. This will give your body the time it needs to begin the changes, you should awaken when they start." Moreau grinned again. "Now get home and get some rest, they can be... bothersome. But it'll be over soon enough." Lauren Granger : The needle went in rather painlessly as Lauren watched in awe. It was so amazing to finally be able to change. "Well, alright you can sedate me if ya want to doc but you know me." She almost wanted to reach towards him and give him a hug. Finally she couldn't hold it back any longer and she did as tears of joy welled down her cheek. Doctor Moreau Moreau stopped, a bit shocked by this kind of affection displayed. He really didn't know how to react exactly. After a moment he smiled and hugged back, though the display was mostly superficial he actually felt a bit warm inside. "Thank you Lauren. Now I really must return to my research." he patted her back in the hug. Lauren Granger Thorn caught herself and backed away, although glad the doc had hugged her back. "Your just like... you know... the father I wish I had.... no other subject cares for ya but I don't see why, you do such great things!" She looked down almost shrinking under the thoughts that ran through her head. Truth was an odd and uncomfortable thing sometimes. Thorn smiled. "O.k. I'll let you go! Night night, I'll be different tomorrow." She nearly skipped out of the office with joy her heart hadn't felt in a long time leaving the doctor to do the research he had talked about.

It was five o'clock somehow and Lauren knew this. She was young again, long platinum blonde hair, pure skin with no scars. Dolls were in front of her but they were all different than her memory, not that she knew the difference.
The dolls were the islanders and their playhouse was the lab.
Then it happened, a strange smell as Lauren felt uncomfortable, she began to cry falling into a fit upon the Dude and Ambrose dolls crashing their tea party. The door creeked as a woman came in.
She was tall and skinny but more shapely than Lauren is now although she looked nearly a perfect match, only more feminine. More like a model than a beat up street girl.
"Laurie, what's the matter?" She asked calmly.
"Mommieeeee!!" Lauren perked up running towards her mother. "You were gone, they said so!" She said as she pointed towards the dolls.
"Lauren, now now dolls don't talk" Another more masculine voice said behind her mother. A man appeared behind her "Why play with dolls when you could play with the microscope I just brought you?" The man had red hair and a lab coat and was... the doctor?
"But we play with dolls together!" Lauren said remembering how the doc showed her things about the dolls and made them change into fun things.
"Well Lauren, you're a doll!" The doctor pulled out a small yellow fox like mammal which ran towards Lauren. "You're MY doll."
The mongoose bit her but Lauren did not cry, she reached down to pick the animal up. "Hello?" Lauren said innocently.
"Hello...." The mongoose said loud echoing loudly into her mind.
------------
Thorn looked up, Moreau and her mom weren't there, it wasn't five o'clock, it was no time and she was in a tunnel. There was no mongoose but she could still hear him.
"I'm still here, I'm always here. You'll find them, they'll keep you company. Don't be lonely. Alone we don't survive."
"But that's the only way I know... alone." Lauren replied to the voice echoing with the tunnels and her skull at the same time.
Many more mongooses appeared, some ground squirrels even came towards her.
"You have friends, get more. We need help like a family!" They all were chanting in a sing songy manner nearly like they were from a musical.
"We need family!" Their heads weren't mongooses, they were Moreau, Lauren's mom and Awen. "We are family!!"
Lauren started crying in her sleep desperately from sadness and happiness. She was both extremes at once all of a sudden.
She woke up with a jolt shouting at the top of her lungs, "We NEED family!"
