Drachir D Nalem None of them can measure up to a viking, though. Agreed. Odin will not spare ye. Norse mythology is probably the coolest our of all of the ancient religions. *Not any fantasy mythology. The coolest of that is of the drow, of course.*

Norse mythology is probably the coolest our of all of the ancient religions. *Not any fantasy mythology. The coolest of that is of the drow, of course.* I'm quite fond of norse mythology myself. Did you know, that the inspiration for Gary Gygax to invent the drow (for D&D) as black skinned elves came from the norse myths of the svartalfs (black elves), whereas the name "drow" was borrowed from british folklore, the drow, which were beings that often lived in caves.

It's not written Svartalf. That's the same as saying "A black Alf". It'd be more like "Sortalv" or Svartalv., combining the words "Sort" which means black(in the books Sort is written as Svart. But in the case of my dialect, it's Sort). Alv means Elf. And the most famous Sortalv are two that tried to trick Odin, but got tricked by him. They made mead out of Odin and the rest of Æsene(don't bother to try and understand that one. It's not technically a real word. I think Aesir or something would be the American version.) spit. Or maybe it was that they took the man MADE from the spit, and killed him... Don't quite remember. It's been a while since I read that particularly story.

It's been a while since I read that particularly story. Remember too Drachir, that what you call the "American" spellings for words refers to a language and dialect that is contemporary. So too are modern german and scandinavian languages contemporary. What you read was a translation into your language from an older dialect and language. Also, when the nordic peopes migrated to various places and languages mutated, their myths and the names of gods and things evolved too. Modern english names are no less valid than modern german or scandinavian spellings and pronunciations. In english, it is proper to say svartalf to mean a norse mythological creature which is a black elf. The original alfs and svartalfs were said to have begun as maggots which fed upon the body of the world giant, Ymir, as I recall. And, yes, Aesir is the word that refers to the Asa, or gods of Asgard. Vanir refers to the gods Frey and Freya and their father, I forget his name who live in Vanheim.

I thought that was the Jotun that were the maggots... Maybe they were the ticks or something instead. It's been a long time since I read through all the Norse mythology.

*Snatches that one too* Yoink again! Speed is my best skill! Although people constantly assume that it's strength, just because I can lift a small house when using all my strength...

Elvanshalee Who does a girl have to kill to get a drink around here? It seems you would have to kill Drachir to get a drink. As he is the one yoinking them all. He is a fiend among fiends, the fiend!

Yes, but I accidentally crushed the last glass in my hand, and now got shards sticking out of it. Excuse me while I'm flailing around the room in pain, trying to find some bandages. *Clears his throat* OH MY GODS, TEH PAIN! *Flails around the place*
