I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned Moon Child, Oresama, or Seth et Holt yet. They're definitely not the best Japanese movies there are, but Oresama was really cute and Moon Child was funny (mostly because of the cheesiness of the acting... XD). I have yet to see Seth et Holt, but the plot sounds pretty interesting to me. I wouldn't suggest you see them unless you were a J-Rock fanatic though (but you can go ahead if it pleases you).
And if you're up for something sad/heart-warming, the TV series One Litre of Tears is good. If you want something kind of dorky (but still cute, in a way), then I might suggest you watch Fujoshi Rumi: Mousou Shoujo Otaku Kei (*ahem* a side note: it mentions yaoi, but doesn't show anything really. So, if you happen to hear 'yaoi' somewhere in the movie, there's no need to run away).
And if you're just not up for any of that, or want something more family-friendly, go watch a Hayao Miyazaki film. I don't think you'll be disappointed; there are many movies to choose from so you'll hardly be left unsatisfied. Well, I hope you can make use from my suggestions. Happy movie-watching! (^_^)
