Posting gives you gold, and also a higher post count! My post count is pretty high, and if you were to search my posts on the forum, you'd find very little. Yay for guilds.

it doesn't get you that much gold if you do excessive amounts of posting in a row, though

Yeah, you get a good amount for the first few posts in a day, but posting a lot each day still results in a good bit of gold.
Most of my gold is from posting in addition to just never spending it.
