I don't think that's his last one. Soul Possession was the last one he was in. I have a magazine article he did, and he says that was the last one he and Ted filmed.

Old Ares had a Farm was the last one that he was actually important/awesome in. He was a real loser in Soul Possession...but that whole episode was kinda lame...although it makes sense with the whole contract thing being the only way Ares would ever get Xena hahah. And she got out of it anyway biggrin
So I guess the episode wasn't a total loss, I liked it. And Ones For Those You Can't Let Go
