Marketa saw his bluff, and she was very grateful. "Tanks Sirius," she said quietly, tucking the photo back into her book and putting it away. She peered out the window toward the gathering darkness ahead.
Remus leaned across her and looked out as well. "Looks like it's going to rain. It'll probably be pouring by the time we get there. Perfect." Remus was canine in all ways except for his hate of rain.

Sirius smiled at Remus's dislike for rain. Perhaps the only one more canine than Remus was Sirius himself. He, for one, loved the rain. He almost wanted to stick his head out the window and loll his tongue in it. Perhaps he made that fact too evident in his movements...
"Well, it's the beginning of a new year. Sixth... how'd you do on your OWLS, Moony?"

Remus smiled sheepishly. "I got an O in Defense, O in Transfiguration, E in Potions, A in Herbology, A in Charms, and E in Care of Magical Creatures. Am I missing any?" he asked, counting off on his fingers.
((no seriously, am I missing any?))

"I think you're missing Divination, mate," Sirius replied with a smile. "I expected you to do better, you little bookworm you. In any case, I met auror requirements!"
He was ecstatic about that, almost sliding off his seat. Being a blacksheep in a family of dark wizards had its affect on some poeple...

"Ah, right, Divination," Remus said with a shake of his head. "That one was so embarrassing I don't even want to repeat my grade, personally." He looked out the window. "I didn't make Auror qualifications, but I personally don't want the job...and who would take me, anyway?"

Sirius remained silent for a moment, clearly affected by Remus's pessimism regarding lycanthropy. "What did you want to go into, Remus? I was under the impression that your future wasn't in being an auror..."
He trailed off and looked toward the window.

Remus turned to the window again, his eyes remaining firm on the darkening clouds ahead. "This is going to sound really dorky and lame, but...I've always wanted to be a teacher. It's the only thing that I probably could ever do, and even lately it's getting more difficult." He was, of course, referring to the curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, the only course he got a good grade in and actually liked.

Sirius was genuinely concerned; he was not oblivious to the fact that things could only get worse for werewolves with the so-called "dark lord" on the rise. Sirius could almost see Remus's pain written on his face. 'Twas almost tangible.
He, however, decided not to voice his thoughts to keep the conversation's tone light. "Moony! You'd make a great teacher! Gawd knows you've done a damn good job tutoring Wormtail..."

Remus laughed slightly and kicked Sirius from across the compartment. "A rock could tutor Wormy, Pads," he joked. He did feel a bit better, and decided not to say anything else with Marketa right there, lest they let something slip.
Marketa quirked her lip and tilted her head like a curious child. "Why do you call eachudder dose names?" she asked.

"That was a cheapshot, Rem; and he's not even here!" Sirius muttered to Remus before turning to answer Marketa.
"There's many reasons that we do, love. We do it for fun, for the sake of having alter-egos, for simplicity, and other reasons that we shouldn't name. Don't take it personally that we don't divulge all the reasons; some would just be embarrassing if known. Moony's, for instance..."
Sirius looked at Remus thoughtfully. The last time someone asked why he called Remus 'Moony', he had replied with, 'Well, there was this one time at the lake were Remy dared me to moon some Ravenclaw girls...'
Remus turned a bright beet red that day; angry, but grateful Sirius had not told the real reason why they called him Moony. This time, he would avoid any tall tales, and just shrug the main reasons off.
Three of the marauders, after all, had gotten their nicknames illegally...

Marketa wrinkled her nose thoughtfully for a moment. "Eider you're excellent at Astronomy, or does your name have to do wit de buttocks, Meester Moony?" she asked jokingly. "I'm sure all de girls in Hogwarts would love to see dat..."
Remus went red. "Uh...I have a thing for Astronomy..." he muttered, trying not to laugh and groan at the same time. Girls were the last thing he wanted to think about, though he really liked girls...

Sirius threw his head back and expelled a deep, hearty laugh. "You," he gasped. "Are... A... Keeper!"
He was so tickled about Marketa's comment---and Remus's response---that he was near tears. Remus's face was... PRICELESS!

Marketa blushed with pleasure, but didn't have the guts to say anything.
Remus looked mock affronted. "Oh yeah Sirius, put the girls above your own mate! I thought we were like brothers!" He turned his head to the side dramatically and pretended to cry in his hand.

Sirius was pleased that Remus was acting playful today; a lot of times, he was down about his lycanthropy or just plain studying. Perhaps it was the excitement of a new year.
Sirius started toward Remus, and put his arm around his "brother". "Like brothers? I'm offended, mate! After all we've been through together!" He barked a playful laugh, and continued pretending to comfort his "crying" friend.

Remus managed to fake a horribly unconvincing sob-and-a-half before his head snapped up. "Anyway, enough of that waffle. Time to start my homework." His mouth twitched behind the book he'd propped over his face--upside down. He never left his homework until this late, but knew it motivated his friends into doing theirs. Once they got into it, he usually fell asleep.
