It did indeed sting! Giving a squeal of indignant protest, she hauled herself backwards convulsively, jerking her hoof out of his grasp. If she had known this would hurt more than the injury itself, she'd have hardly agreed to it! Unable to help herself, she flung the stallion an accusatory look. "You didn't tell me he would hurt me more!" The cry was off her lips before she could catch it, and immediately regretted it. She swiveled her ears back apologetically, snorting and sidling away from the human.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap," she murmured quietly to Colonel, keeping the tricksy human in her sight. She flexed her swollen joint experimentally, wincing as it continued to throb. "He's making it worse, not better." It was really more of a question than a statement. She was still eyeing the man distrustfully, eyes rolling, sidling over closer to her hooved companion. Surely Colonel wouldn't let this two-legger hurt her?

"He's used that on me before, it stings for a little while but it does cool the wound off and numb the soreness." Colonel whinnied apologetically and nuzzled her, sorry that he didn't warn her properly. "It just takes a little while, that's all."
Niyol drew back when the mare pulled her hoof away. He had at least tried to warn her. "It's okay, pretty girl. I wouldn't hurt you purpose." The two legger smiled gently seeing what looked like Colonel trying to comfort her.
He reached back into the basket beside him and plucked out another apple offering it to the mare as an apology.

Damara tossed her head, eyes rolling, backing away another step. This was definitely more than she'd bargained for. She completely ignored the offered treat, seeing it as a way to lure her closer so that he might touch her again with that pain. She snorted loudly and backed again, moving out of range of both human and stallion's touch. "I think this was a bad idea," she murmured aloud, looking more unsettled with this human than she had with the furious cat. "A very bad idea. I'll find another way, if it needs tending."
She spun on her hindquarters, moving hastily as she so rarely did. Her forelegs curled close to her chest as she spun, then came gingerly back to the ground as she called an apology over her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Colonel. This just isn't for me." Her whole hide shuddered as if a swarm of flies had landed upon her at once. "Forgive me, but I need to go." One last wild-eyed look at the crouching human, and she was off, limping away at a fast walk, teeth gritted against the pain.
Never again, she vowed. She knew that the human hadn't been evil, but he'd knowingly inflicted pain upon her, and somehow that stuck in her mind as something unforgivable. No, humans should be greeted warily and kept at a distance. At least until she found one that would never, ever, cause her hurt. Her skepticism made that rather unlikely a chance, though. Soon she was again beneath the trees and safely away from the home of the two-legged barbarians.
