You could have just gotten prints.

It is understandable to be suspicious, because stylistically, they look very different. It almost looks like the second two are drawn to look like the the first ones, but at a lower quality.

The thing is diversity is good, but you also have to have some kind of cohesive style.

WRONG
I happen to like mountain pony's posts because they are varied. Cohesive styles are for people whose primary goal is to be marketable - remember that different artists want different things from art.

Guys, I am really glad that you are all so keen to point out art theft, that is really cool. You are like the neighborhood watch or maybe some Terminators or something.

But it's really not cool to jump on a bandwagon, agreeing with fairly baseless speculation of this nature. Art theft is a serious issue and it's not the sort of thing you should accuse one of on a simple whim.

If you have some sort of proof, that is one thing. Find another artist who produces work like this and then try to make a connection.

I am ashamed of this thread. Mountain pony, I apologize. I'm not sure where these people came from but I have a pretty good idea.

The rest of you, behave your ******** selves. Any further pursuit of this subject without proof will be treated as trolling.

From a professional stand-point, you DO need a cohesive style. And art director will not hire you if they don't know what they are going to get. There is nothing erroneous about that.

As a professional freelancer, I am required to work outside the bounds of personal style and adapt to the project at hand.

You seem to have a very single-minded idea of what art is about - I stand by my opinion that mountain pony's variability is interesting and therefore not something I would so quickly advise against.

I'm sort of sick of people who only seem to have one trick.

I sort of agree with you - professionally clients expect you to be flexible, and it's obviously nice to get briefs that allow you to experiment and develop different styles, but with most successful illustrators I think that you can still tell who has done the work, even if it's not their usual thing.

Being well known for a consistent style can be very useful, though, especially when you're trying to promote yourself. xx

As much as I hate bandwagons, I'm gonna have to hitch a ride on this one.

The first post in her thread accusing her of art theft, wtb.
