Beth
April 14, 2008

When her sister had finally broken out of her leafy prison, the Oracle hadn't felt jealous, as she had when Duff had been potted, she simply felt itchy. Itchy and something akin to anticipatory, although the swirly air with a baby's face didn't even know that word existed to describe the feelings she possessed. For the next couple of days she didn't even have it in her to hide from Robert, and if she had been feeling more like herself, she would have relished the horrified looks he gave her or the fact that he seemed to be quickly coming apart at the seams.

Duff was fun to be around most of the time; she didn't even seem to hold a grudge when it came to the chunk the Oracle had taken out of her back in her Reverie days. Maybe she didn't even remember their tussle. Duff tried to draw attention to her ear, like the rip was a pre-birth battle scar, the first of many. The Oracle admired her for that at least.

Finally the anxious sensations dissipated, and in their wake came a wave of exhaustion that left the Oracle barely able to float into her sister's room and spread out on the bed. She found she really could spread out now, her wispy form solidifying into the child that had been visible in her depths for more than a month now.

Beth had arrived, and all she wanted to do was sleep.

First steps
April 30, 2008

It hadn't taken long for Beth to learn to walk, or toddle as the case may be, she was simply irked because she had needed to learn at all. Both Duff and Maclah had instinctively known how, and although Beth understood the mechanics of the whole thing, she just couldn't get her leg muscles to cooperate. Until today.

Pushing off of the half-a-couch that served as her shared bed with Duff, Beth quickly scuffed across the room toward the door. She would have made it out into the hall too, if her compy sister hadn't chosen that moment to enter. Beth smacked headlong into Duff and sat down hard, unconsciously clenching her hands into fists and frowning.

Duff's lips quirked in a smile and she said, "You walk now. Good." The statement wasn't intended as a reward or to be condescending, it simply was. "Lots to see. House is verah big."

Beth nodded. She knew a little something about just how large the house was. After all, she had floated out of one of Shirley's many rooms as a noncorporeal puff of pretty air not too long ago. In fact, Duff had been present at the time. Perhaps she didn't remember the things that had happened in her leaf form as clearly as Beth did her air days. That was probably a good thing, considering the fact that Air Beth had chased Leaf Duff around the kitchen with a knife. The yeti's eyes were drawn to the chunk missing from her sister's ear, the only evidence that it had ever happened.

"We... explore." The word was a new one for Beth, but the way Duff said it left no room for misinterpretation. Beth nodded again.

"Later. Now lunch." Duff held out her hand to help Beth to her feet. "Da made chick'n fingahs."
