It took a moment or two for Micajah to answer the question of the woman who had just walked up, as his face was once again blanched and his jaw hung slightly agape. Inside his mind he was wishing for the ability to either turn back time or shrink himself, as he felt like a complete idiot.

The person he'd been speaking so casually to, almost too casually, was none other than Dr. Lorioth Manneth. A man he admired, to say the least, for his innovations in the medical field despite the limits of his youth. Before coming to the school Micajah had taken time to read up on his works and accomplishments, but had never bothered to find a photo or accurate description of the person himself.

"Ah...au..."

He stammered a bit at first, his fears confirmed when the new woman had addressed his companion as 'Herr Manneth', and he sighed inwardly at the rudeness of his manners both then and now. His father, should he ever know, would have been livid.

"Ah...forgive me. My name is Micajah Ackart. It's a please to meet you, ma'am. Also, Dr. Manneth..."

A lopsided, clearly embarrassed smile covered Micajah's face as a crimson blush spread over his nose and cheeks, and and bowed his head towards the other. Maybe at least an apology would cover up the lack of respect he seemed to be showing.

"Forgive me for speaking so informally towards you. It was my fault for not asking your name when we first met."

"Jie! Look at this place!" Merle was giddy, something he wasn't often. The young woman who'd 'adopted' him followed close behind, a smile on her face almost as wide as that of the girlish boy.
"Jeez, kiddo...I knew you were excited about this...but you're just about jumping out of your skirt!" Merle stuck his tongue out at her.

"What else do you expect, Theresa? I'm on the grounds of the one place I've been longing to go! Sure...I'm not a student. But this is one step closer." His smile calmed to the point of being his normal demure one. "I'm going to look around a bit before going to the plushies, Jie." Theresa nodded and shook her head as Merle walked off.

"Meet back here in three hours, kiddo!!!!" Merle waved back to show he'd heard. As he walked about, he brushed the wrinkles from his pale blue turtleneck and ankle-length skirt, made sure his curly black hair was still in its ponytail, and observed his surroundings. This was only his second Christmas, and he was bound to enjoy it.

Shuffling along Nash remained somber for the most part, the festivities in full swing and sadly without him. He pouted but didn't give in to his childish urge to throw a tantrum. Instead he took delight in watching the happiness on the faces of those around him. There were families about, something he took a great interest in.

Finding a bench of which to sit, he watched a young boy totter away from his parents close to becoming lost in the crowd before his mother noticed him wandering off. She quickly gathered the toddler in arms a sigh of relief escaping her before being directed to another booth by her husband. Nash smiled, it reminded him of his family, once upon a time. Ah well, the past was in the past.

Scanning the crowd once more he noted a boy waiving at what looked like his guardian. She smiled, then melted into the crowd. Nash watched him a bit longer, then stood to his feet, hands still in his pocket he moved casually to catch up with the spirited youth. Maybe he was nervous in making the first move but this was a new beginning for him... why not dive right in? "Awesome display, ya think?" He inquired in his stilted Irish brogue. His eyes taking in the scenary around him before landing on the boy who was fidgeting at his cloths.

The fidgeting made Nash conscious of his own garb, which consisted of a sixty's style tan news boy cap, hand-me-down khaki pants -- a mite to big -- with black and white checkered suspenders, a chrisp white dress shirt; which was haphazardly tucked into his pants, and a seasonal tie of varying colors between red, green and white. He wore a simply tan jacket to buffer the chilly air, with wingtip shoes which were hidden under the cuff of his pants. A fob chain dangled from his pocket the only indication of a possible pocket watch.

Merle blinked and looked to the orange haired boy nearby. He nodded in agreement. "Yes...it is. The last time I saw things decorated so elaborately...was in a book." In Beijing, celebrations had become small family affairs, and when people did gather together to celebrate...it was just a big potluck with dancing and music. "But this place...The decorations are wonderful! And there's certainly more people than I'm used to seeing. I certainly feel sorry for the poor person running the plushie booth."

He hesitated a moment before extending his hand. Merle was so used to bowing to others, and Theresa had just recently gotten it into his head the most of the world shook hands to greet. And that most of the world used given names first. "I'm Merle Fenglung."

Lorioth gave a start as a light, female voice chimed through the silence that had fallen after his statement, and turning slowly, his eyes fell upon a fellow teacher who he recognized as Irame Ameandiel, despite that fact that he didn’t think that he had ever engaged in a conversation with her.

“Oh, there was no intrusion made at all, Heru Ameandiel,” the doctor quickly replied, fervently hoping that this was the right way to address the elven woman, “and if I may say so, your holiday spirit is quite festive as well.” And Lorioth meant it too. Irame seemed to have braided her hair into complicated-looking arrangements, pinned together with ornaments and flower petals embellished it…Euphorbia pulcherrima, from the look of it—more commonly known as the poinsettia. A traditional dress woven from green and red fabrics of Christmas adorned her figure. The overall effect was quite elegant and refined.

Christmas was really getting to his head—meeting and talking to new people really wasn’t that bad! As he gave a smile to the other professor, he caught Micajah in the corner of his eye, and the youth seemed to have taken on the color of a lobster.

“No, no,” Lorioth countered, “it was my fault for not introducing myself to you in the first place, and for assuming that you already knew who I was. As for being informal…I saw no evidence of that, and I hope that you will continue gracing me with your friendship despite the fact that I am a teacher.” Giving him a smile to reinforce his point, his thoughts meandered back to the camera that still awaited his arrival in the science lab. As much as he loved talking to Micajah, and as much as he would like to get to know Irame a bit better, he really couldn’t afford to shirk his duties any longer.

Giving a sigh, Lorioth turned to both of his companions and regrettably said, “Well, um, I’m running the Photo Booth, and I really should go and get the camera that I left in the science lab. Careless of me, right? I have to run and get it—but maybe you could stop by my booth later or…will you both still be here when I get back?”

"Hmm," was his serious reply to the woman's question, dark blue eyes skimming over the gathered before lighting upon the female at his side. "It's a wee bit crowded, isn't it? If you're looking for a little space to breathe, the photo booth is out that door and to the left." Again, he used his hand to indicate the direction in question, his smile catching as his attention shifted and found Doctor Manneth. Not that it was very hard, given his outfit, but it also meant the booth was likely not in service at the moment.

This made Norman chuckle. "Our very own Doctor Manneth is the gentleman running the booth, and...well. There's certain to be plenty of smiles with him running around as a reindeer." His smile warmed as he nodded towards the reindeer-clad man in question, not that far from where the two stood.

As if there would be any other reindeer dressed men. Norman chuckled again, bemused.

“It is very nice to meet you, heru Micajah. I am sorry that I forgot to introduce myself. I am Irame Ameandiel. You could call me Irame or Ameanosse, whichever you would like.” She bowed her head to him as well.

At Lorioths words Irame looked down even as she smiled. “Thank you Heru Manneth, please call me Irame, however. I looked into the traditions around Christmas before now and I am most pleased to find that my preparations were acceptable. Even if a bit under done if everyone else is prepared like you.” She let her eyes go back up to Manneth as he spoke about the camera and the photo booth that he was running. Nodding in response she smiled again. “I will still most likely be here. Although I would like to come and see you again later, if you would not mind my presence.”

To say it was "a wee bit crowded" seemed like an understatement to Lexi. But she let it slide as she looked to the spot the man had indicated. A photo booth? A small picture memento from the celebration might not be a bad idea, she thought after pondering it over.

Blinking, Lexi turned to look at this Doctor Manneth man. "He's a teacher?" she asked out loud, staring at the young looking blond man decked out in reindeer costume. She giggled softly. For some reason she didn't quite know, the costume seemed fitting for the man.

"I'm Seibehn L.J. Nash. Nice to meet you." He greeted shaking Merle's hand. When introductions were complete Nash's smile matched his new companion. "I'm not used to this either. Although my small town decortated their shops and homes it was nothing along the lines of this."

Taking another look around he questioned Merle. "Have you been able to explore the different booths yet? I tried the plushie booth but got trampled on." He chuckled thinking about it, a slight embarrassed flush marring his cheeks.

Oh wow. Emerald eyes were a-glitter as all that Farlest could do upon stepping into the room was gawk. There were so many people! So many activities and so many things to do! It was practically paradise for the outgoing young man...and his fingers twitched in eager anticipation.

Casting a glance about the room for people that he knew, he spotted Micajah, and then Scyeth with another boy...and was that Wei? It looked to be.

Farlest had done himself up for the occasion, long black hair in a braid, and the slender teen was wearing a deep green and gold kimono, a gift from his mother nearly a year ago. It gave the pretty youngster a look that was dangerously close to androgyny, and he almost felt self-conscious about it. Almost.

Now, he would of course say hello to the people that he knew, that, after all, was simply the polite thing, but in addition to that, he hoped to make new friends...parties were good for that sort of thing after all, and Farlest had been somewhat lacking in the brand spanking new acquaintance department. Time to remedy that.

Seeing that there seemed to be a small group forming over by...wasn't that the new student? Nash. Right. He only remembered because he'd had a friend named that at one point, and the orange hair to top it all off cause pangs of sentimentality to run through him. Bah! This was a festive occasion...enough of that! Farlest Morifaerion made his way over, brushing back a stray lock of hair from his eyes, and back behind his ear as he did so.

"Ah, well..."

Micajah almost lifted his hand in protest to the teacher saying he'd be gone to fetch a camera and that the pair should meet together later to talk once more, but he stopped himself as he remembered his place and his manners with a harsh mental chiding.

"I don't mind staying here with Ms. Irame while you need to go fetch your camera, since it seemed to be quite important to you. I hope talking to me didn't make you forget even more."

He turned his gaze over towards the eleven woman next to him and actually felt his heart skip for a moment in a mixture of both awe and fear, as he'd never really been that close to an elf without someone like his father beside or in front of him. To actually be next to a member of the race that had transcended the stage of life that humans were going through and come out as something superior, it made his knees a little weak as well.

"That is, if you don't mind me staying with you, Ms. Irame. I have a terrible sense of direction and I feel that if I were to walk off and away from here I'd never get back before the celebration ended."

He admitted this fact with a chuckle, though inside he was wondering if he should simply ask the doctor if he could accompany him. Who knew what Micajah was capable of doing if he got bored enough and decided to wander?

His first official meeting with an elf and Lorioth could not be more thrilled. Were they all eloquent and refined as Heru Ameandiel? The doctor smiled back at her responding in an amused voice, “It would be my deepest pleasure should you decide to grace me with your presence later, Irame. And though your words do flatter me, I must admit that it was not my choice to wear the clothing of a reindeer. And please, call me Lorioth.”

Turning to his younger acquaintance, the doctor offered him a smile as well as he replied with a mixture of fondness and laughter at the youth’s somewhat sulky outlook, “I shouldn’t take that long, and Irame will be good company for you in my absence. Besides, you’re in the magic division, are you not? Heru Ameandiel is the head of that particular office—you could get a head start on your studies!”

Turning once again to address them both at the same time, the doctor spoke with his eyes twinkling, “Okay then, I-I guess I’ll be off to find my camera! With all luck, my expedition will go well.”

And with a solemn bow, the reindeer left the vicinity of the Chinkami Mall, (hopefully to return some otherwise the Photo Booth would never open.)

“I would find your company most delightful, Micajah. I believe that I have spent no where near enough time with students, and I would most like to get to know more of them. Although I am sure that you are being far too hard on yourself. Should we get lot you would be fine.” She had been disappointed when she had found that she wouldn’t be teaching like she had been used to. Then again she supposed that the large number of students in the school would make it rather impractical to have classes with the teachers actually teaching and classes as small as she was expecting. Still she was disappointed with herself for not making more of an effort to get to know the kids.

Irame looked shyly away from Lorioth, as a polite elven lady should or at least as she had been taught. Had she been better at the dances of words and gestures that so often took place at both Amiandiel and, less frequently, Iliodean, then she would have been able to force herself to blush. As it was she was just very flatered. So far all the humans that she had met this age, that comprising manly of Greg now Lorioth and a brief meeting with Primwaltz when she had first been employed, had been very kind. They had to be practicing or something…

“Well whether or not you had intended to wear the outfit, I must say it is most festive and keeping with the seasons cheer.” She replied. “And since it seems that it would make you happy to you I will make it a point to visit you in the photo booth at some time.” She bowed her head once more, and curtsied as well this time as he left, whishing him well and good and the blessings of atara anin.

She then turned back to Micajah and smiled once more.

“So you are in the magic division? Hopefully I will see more of you then.”
PostPosted: Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:32 pm

Micajah straightened up as Irame turned back towards him and spoke, a little shocked at her sudden movement towards him. He'd been watching the doctor go ahead to go get his camera with a little bit of worry in his mind, but he decided it was best not to lurk on that. After all, the kind elven woman who was keeping him company had assured him that they would be fine and together.

"The magic division? Yes ma'am, I decided to try and pursue a path through magic if only to spite someone. That is...at first, but now I've decided to see if I could use magic for different means, like medical studies."

He felt awkward talking to Irame, that was honest and certain, but he didn't want to seem rude. In comparison to talking to a fellow human, he felt like an infant standing next to this woman. While he could be on equal terms with anyone else, standing next to an elf made him feel oddly inferior but it didn't make him bitter. It only strengthened his desire to become better, so it turned into something greater.

"I was talking to the doctor earlier about perhaps using magic for medical reasons."

"I haven't really. My guardian and I got here only a bit ago." He looked to the plushie booth and shivered. "I'm going to try there later...when there aren't quite as many people there...or find a way through the crowd. I'm not sure which yet. And I definitely want to visit the photo booth at some point." Merle looked back to Nash. "Anyone in particular you want a plushie for?"

That's when his gray eyes spotted someone else headed their way. Another new acquaintance to be made! This day was getting better in Merle's opinion. "Someone you know, Nash?" One habit Merle had not been broken of yet...Using the last names of people.
