(( We didn't loose power, but the rain did knock out our phone line. :/ Our house still leaks from Charley, so almost any rain puts us in a state of disconnection. ))
The female hopped, continuing to keep the play position as Nessa rambled towards her, full of comical bounds and a chest full of excitement. As the little child reminded Harle that she would be caught, the older wolf grinned, and gently jumped to the side once more, although she knew that her evasions were entering their final phase.
She danced quickly around Nessa, her bright ears pivoting about as she moved. Then, with another quick bound- She slipped! It had been on purpose, but even Harle was surprised with how fast she fell down. She fell with a slight "oof!", and privately decided she wouldn't do any more of that again. Luckily, the grass was appealingly soft, and it did do well to ease the slight angry jostling her ribs felt. But her fall did allow Nessa to easily catch up to her, and grinning with defeat, Harle rolled onto her belly.

(( Augh. :/ We're lucky, up in VA the most we've gotten from hurricanes is a lot of rain and some wind. I wonder how it's gonna turn out for those folks in New Orleans, though.. ))
Nessa missed the bigger wolf again. She skidded on the grass, trying to change directions, losing orientation and coming to a halt only after an unintentional roll. Green eyes glinting with concentration at the fun challenge the other female presented, the blue and cream pup steeled herself visibly, crouching lower to the ground before bolting forward in a cobalt blur.
As the pup dashed forward, tiny paws smacking against the ground, Harle 'slipped'. Surprised by this turn of events, Nessa slammed on the brakes, but her small ammount of momentum carried her smack into the side of Harle's belly. It wasn't tagging as much as running into. "Mmph!" The air rushed out of her. She quickly recovered, planting her blackened paws in the soft fur of Harle's side. "--Are you okay?" She asked in a voice of wonder, olive eyes round with worry as one of her ears flopped over.
Yero discretely raised his head, watching out of the corner of his eye. Hopefully his little daughter hadn't worn out their friend too quickly. xD

(( T-T I know...I hope all is alright now. Although I hear the storm surge was bad. It brings back bad memories. :/ ))
Harlequin shifted, and broke into a light laughter. "Hurt? Nah! I am as strong as an ox." She grinned, and stuck her chest out just for emphasis, although as she did, it made her waist look substantially thinner and comical. The black wolf''s tongue lolled pink, and she stretched the ends of her blue and red toes. The effort slightly uprooted some tangled pieces of grass, and she sneezed as one of them slapped her on the nose.
The wolf turned her head, her ears perking and head slanting down towards Nessa. She angled it in a precarious manner, balancing it carefully on the crook of her outstretched elbow. Her face pulled into a pleased smile, and once more her tail continued it''s gracious thumping. "It looks like you got the better of me!"
At once, she pulled herself upwards, her tail flashing once quickly behind her and then swinging down to her side. She bowed her head to Nessa, and quickly made joking pinching attempts with the tiny teeth of her jaw. "But now I am it!" She grinned, pulled her head away, and lept back to give the pup a chance to escape. Running away from the pup had been an easy task- but Harle had a sneaking suspicion that keeping up with one was a whole different story!
As Nessa readied herself for the chase, she glanced over at Yero who was still placidly watching from the sidelines. She gave him a wag of her tail and a chuckling woof, and turned her head back towards the black and gray child.
A slight gust of wind passed through the field, and Harle turned once more to watch it flutter by, fluffing the black female''s now messy coat. She hoped it was not a sign of rain. The skies seemed clear at the moment, and hopefully such nice weather would continue through today. But the light breeze was certainly welcomed.

(( Ack, sorry again for lateness! <33 ))
Nessa's small brush of a tail wagged fervently as Harlequin declared her strength. The pup gave an amused giggle as the blackened female sneezed at the gross. As Harle rose up from the ground all at once, Nessa was rolled nearly onto her back, falling off the shewolf's side. She squealed with glee, and darted back as Harle nipped at the air. Flattening herself to the ground for a second in a bouncing puppy playbow, Nessa gave a high pitched bark of challenge and leapt into the air. Her small paws hit the ground hard and she took off running. Now that it mattered, her gait seemed to have lost much of it's ambling whimsy. In a flash she'd scurried into the tall grass and was lost from sight... though her giggling gave her position away. "You can't catch mee~ee!"
Yero thumped his tail against the ground to Harle. "Uh oh..." He grinned. "Someone's changed the game to hide and seek..." The black wolf leaned his head into the comforting breeze and gave another sleepy yawn, looking a bit sheepish afterwards. He'd have to work on catching up on his sleep. He mused to himself. If he was lucky, maybe Harle could babysit all three sometime. The male cracked a wry smile.

(( It's fine XDD ))
"Oh dear." Harle chuckled as Nessa vanished into the grasses. Now this certainly would be a bit of a challenge! She gave a glance over to Yero, but found the wolf now sleepily lounging on the soft grasses. Another breeze passed, and Harle found herself pleased to see the lethargy. She didn't doubt that three pups were quite a handful.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Harle trotted after the giggling, her own bright tail flashing brilliantly. The tall grass played in the wind, creating a slowly rustling sea of vegetation. Even though she could keep close tabs on Nessa from sound and smell, any of her movements became masked in the shifting plain. But luckily, groundhogs and other small animals oftenly were concealed in such a way. But to feign some despairing, Harle made sure that her head bobbed about every couple of moments as though she had a bit of difficulty locating the little She.
But then, the pale black female shifted, and lowered herself in the grass. Carefully she stalked towards the smell and sounds of the giggling puppy, trying to keep herself as quiet as possible. And then suddenly, she leaped upwards out of the grass in a mock bunny hop, and pounced a few feet from where Nessa rustled about. "Ah!" Harle grinned as she 'missed', spinning carefully around to give the small pup chance to disappear once more.

Nessa felt the grass about her shudder violently in the wind. At this point, the pup wouldn't know which way Harle was coming from. She was as helpless as a swimmer in murky waters, and Harlequin was the shark! Nessa pranced back and fourth with delight, congratulating herself on heightening the drama. The pup gave a yelp of excitement as she heard Harle land not five feet away, and dashed off in the opposite direction. Unbeknownst to the little wolf, her flailing motions created a waving path at the top of the tall grass, moving in a direction opposite to that of the wind...
Nessa stopped moving suddenly, the grass blowing around her gently, tapping against her coat, weaving a living tapestry around her. She pressed her body flat against the ground, folding her ears back against her head in tense speculation, her muscles twitching. Would she be discovered?

The wolf watched as Nessa vanished into the tall grass, her trail clearly marked at first by the counter path she took to the wind. But then, Harle's eyes flickered for a moment, gazing off at the shape of a bird landing in the trees. And when her eyes returned- Nessa was gone!
Harle's head tilted carefully as she looked around the surrounding grasses. The little pup had stopped giggling and moving now in effort to keep herself hidden amongst the shifting sea. Her scent was all over the short area radius, only about twenty feet at the most. The She took a stern step forward, her ears carefully moving as she tried to pick up the faint sounds of the pup's movements. But to her surprise, she couldn't even hear a bit of wriggling. A grin crossed across Harle's maw; Perhaps Nessa was a budding huntress in her own right. But not wanting to look as though she had completely lost her, Harle sunk her nose to the earth and inhaled deeply. Already it told the direction and way the small child had moved, but with it also came her own footprints, Yero's prints, and any old scents Nessa had left moments before.
She picked the strongest out from the knotted ball of smells, and followed the line carefully in the field, falling her paws carefully upon the earth to muffle the sounds. Finally, she picked up the most strongest smell of Nessa, and aligned herself to a more accurate proximity of her location. Fairly sure she was correct, the black wolf sunk back into the reeds, grinning pleasantly.
She snuck up slowly, using all the stealth she would use to hunt down a mouse. (although granted, those were better for popping but...mouse stalking was fun in any case.) At once, she slid a blue toed paw out of the grass, and with a quick motion, poked the crouched pup on the rump. A bit surprised that the end of her appendage had touched something, she bounced into the air with a 'woof' and ran circles around the area. "Oho! You are a good hider!"

"Eeeeee!" The little wolf leapt into the air in surprise and with a giddy high pitched yelp as Harle dramatically discovered her from behind. She fell into a fit of giggles as the older female began to dance about in circles, rolling onto her back, her small shoulderblades cushioned against the grass.
"Okay, okaaay! You got me!" She yipped in that singsong tone comon to young females, a grin spread wise across her blackened lips. The pup rolled to her feet, vision still blurred by swaths of tall grass. She gave a jump and saw a flash of blue and red, then pranced off in that direction. "But--But, Harle.." Nessa stumbled into a lage clearing of sorts, the grass was a bit lower here and thus the majority of her vision returned to her. "You almost didn't find me!" The blue and cream pup declaimed, wagging her tail in delight.

The pale black wolf flapped her tail once more, grinning mischievously as her and Nessa moved into the small clearing. She trotted pleasantly, and a bit comically as she moved, looking for a nice spot to flop herself down. Repeatedly, she was surprised with how much fun she was having- these were nice people. She could think of few times when she had enjoyed herself quite as much. With her head still angled to Nessa, she made another skip of her paws, and brandished the end of her red tipped tail about. "Oh, I almost didn't. And I am very good at finding things, I'll have you know. I am an expert groundhog hunter, If I do say so myself." Although Harle doubted privately that she wouldn't have been able to find the pup, she was rather pleased to see that Nessa did seem to already be developing the beginnings of hunting instincts. And she did hide quite well.
For a moment, Harle's face frowned and she looked more adult, reminding herself that it was a good trait for a pup to know how to hide. But she didn't like that they had to at all. At least this place seemed safe, and Yero seemed the capable father. But one could never say what dangers lurked...her mother always warned them of the two leggers when they were young. Although she'd never personally met up with one, it bothered her a bit to think that they lurked somewhere in the shadows.
But the brief moment of seriousness passed, and Harle gave a 'wuuuff' and flopped onto her side. A small flutter of loosed grasses danced from where she planted herself down, and a small dandelion fluff spread out it's parachuting seeds. Harle watched them fly about, but returned her vision back to Nessa, who still approached from behind.

The pup stood at Harle's side, tail wagging. She turned her muzzle to the winds, watching the dandilion seeds swirl away in the gentle winds, following the other's example. Turning her olive orbs back to Harle, she smiled, panting slightly and flopped against the older wolf, pitchy paws plopped on Harle's shoulder blending in with the other's dark fur. "What does hunt mean?" She tilted her head, putting slight pressure against Harle with her small paws. "Is it like catch?"
Yero, overhearing, ducked his muzzle down in a sheepish gesture. Neither he nor Whinn had journeyed far from the river since the pups had been born, and as far as meat the pups' only samplings had been a variety of fish-flesh. Nessa had never seen a groundhog, let alone a large herd animal. Yero smiled gently to himself. There was a whole world of firsts out there for his daughter.

Harle's ear gently swiveled as she took in Nessa's questing. The soft feeling of the pup's paws against her shoulder was oddly comforting, and it was bewildering to her that wolves all started as such tiny things. Did everything start so small?
"Hunt...hrm." Her brow pinched together. "I would say it's a bit like catch, yes." A deep, clownish grin crossed about Harle's muzzle as she happened to catch the black form of Yero ducking his muzzle suddenly down towards the grasses. It must be overwhelming to be a father, Harle thought privately. Her red tipped tail slowly swayed. "It's like playing catch and getting food at the end. Although I'd imagine what you're hunting has an entirely different impression of the situation." The female laughed, her light voice thrumming in her mouth.
"But don't worry about hunting yet." She spoke, looking to Nessa. "Your Mum and Dad will make sure you've got all the food you'll ever need. Once your big enough, then you can do some hunting of your own. You can even practice hunting on bugs, and brothers." She chuckled.
She carefully settled her head down on her outstretched, pink padded paws. The small dandelions were still tossing about in the wind, and she felt a deep sense of contentment in this endless spread of grass. The idea of hunting...it seemed so burned into the young wolf's mind that Harle could scarcely remember a time she hadn't participated. She looked back at Nessa with a grin, thinking to herself. It would be lovely if life was spent in eternal childhood, she decided. You didn't have to worry about much of anything, and obscure things in life were still far-fetched from one's reasoning.

Nessa snapped at a could of the floating seed puffs as they floated by, coating her muzzle in the featherlike dandylion fuzz. She shook her head, ears flapping against her skull, and sneezed.
"Catch--Hunting bugs?" The puppy asked with a sniff once she'd recovered, as if the sneeze had never happened. Her light green eyes grew wide. "You mean the creepy crawly things? Do they taste good?" The little wolf swiveled her head from side to side, as if seeing the world in a whole different light. A butterfly happened to be drifting by a few yards away and Nessa tilted her head with a little whine of question.

(( Apologies for delayed post T-T Busy weekend. ))
Harle's long neck craned, her soft gold eyes fluttering about the wild green field as Nessa tumbled about. She thought for a moment, her bright ears bobbing and her dotted face carefully contorting "Hrm...well, I suppose it'd be a lot like bug catching, except that bugs aren't any good for eating." With this, the wolf made a funny face, her brow arching in a slant.
"But other things are very good for eating. Like... groundhogs...deer...mountain goat....badger....goose....well, just about anything is good for you as long as it doesn't fight you back!" She chuckled, her tongue lolling. "But you wouldn't want to go chasing after a deer at your age. Your mum and dad will take care of that for you, if they even choose to hunt deer. I hear fish is good here. Fish is slimy, but it's a lot less work and more rewarding if you get good at it." Which she most certainly was not, but there was no need to let Nessa know that! "Fish aren't as pretty as deer though. Deer are the most beautiful animals in the woods. Save for, you and me of course." She grinned devilishly, and shook her tail from side to side.

(( Not at all, my dear! :3 Same, same. heart ))
Nessa grinned at Harle's face, absently echoing it, trying it on without even noticing, a little bit of monkey-see/monkey-do. Her face remained slightly puzzled, but otherwise impassive as the other listed animals. Perhaps Nessa had seen some without knowing their actual names. Her ears perked at the sound of fish, however. "Fish! We eat lots of fish. Mommy catches the good kind, but when Daddy goes fishing he brings back slimy ones." She nodded sagely, affirming Harle's qualms about certain types of fish. Lowering her voice again she added confidentially. "Daddy's not as good at it as Mommy, that's why."
"What do deer look like?" Nessa asked, interested in the supposedly beautiful creatures. Fish were quite pretty when they flopped around out of the water, flickering sunlight this was and that off their silver scales. Nessa wondered if deer looked anything similar.
A few yards away, Yero smiled to himself, trying to kep his eyes open. By this point he couldn't hear most of what was beign said, but from the 'Daddy' that registered with him now and then he discerned his daughter had a couple things to say about him. The male chuckled. Ah. Parenthood. Heavy eyelids slowly fell closed and Yero slipped off into a dose without noticing.

A pleasant chuckle crossed over the careful Harlequin's face, noting the young child's mimicry of her facial features. It was hard to keep her laughing urges down deep within her belly, but her chest brimmed with a kind of lazy happiness such foolhardy behavior brought her. It made her feel wonderfully alive, and made the fall weather feel somewhat more like springtime.
As if Harle had not made her share of bizarre facial expressions, she added a new one to her facial vocabulary as Nessa described her mother's wonderful fish and her father's occasional slimy one. "Oh...slimy..." Was all she could manage out between a soft laughter, keeping herself slightly restrained as she noticed Yero drooping into lethargy in the distance. "I'm afraid I'd not like slimy fishes, but that seems to be all I've ever caught. Slimy fish with great big whiskers!" Children were by far, the most entertaining of all people, Harle decided. It was only in their company that she felt she did not need to restrain herself for need of pride or adult charm.
Harle's head pivoted to the side, her long red paws stretching forwards and against the grassy earth. "Deer..." Images flashed through her mind, most of them pertaining to food, but some of them of lazy summer days when she was an adolescent. Which really hadn't been so very long ago, she supposed. But she remembered sitting around and watching the great long necked deer slowly graze and lope about. They gave wolves no heed when they could see them. It was only when they couldn't that they grew concerned, and nonchalantly, they continued on grazing. "Well, I suppose they're proportionately a lot like wolves." She explained, trying to think of how one could describe a creature to someone who had never seen one before. It reminded her of her mother's tales of the 'two-leggers'. "I mean-" She went on. "They have two eyes, and two ears, and four legs, and a tail. Only different. Their eyes are on the side of their head, instead of in front. I suppose our ears are kind of similar, although they have very short fur, so the ear is naked in the inside. They've got mouths like we do, but their mouths are for eating grass, so their teeth are stubby. Their necks are very long and tall- they're a lot bigger then us, although they're really no threat." She furrowed her brow. "They're usually brown, and sort of brackish. Their tails are short and stubby like their teeth, but when their tail lifts it flashes a bright white. Their legs are like sticks too, and they jump very far and at the ends of their legs are hard round rocks." She nodded, deciding she approved of that description. "The males also have great big sharp sticks on their heads. The bigger they are, the healthier they are, so you usually stay away from the ones with sharp sticks. But the ladies don't have any, not that I've ever seen anyways. And their children are covered with spots which they loose through some sort of metamorphosis."
She chuckled as she concluded her synopsis of a deer, deciding to leave out the parts about different kinds of deer, and big droopy deer which all had horns.... She could hardly understand it herself really. But it was most amazing.
