31. Flowers
That night she dreamed of a field of flowers, a gust of wind tearing all the soft blue and white petals free and lifting them so high her eyes couldn't see anymore.

32. Night
There is little rest for her at night. She dreams strange dreams, and wakes like clockwork to a sunrise just beginning to color the horizon.

33. Expectations
To be honest, she doesn't expect to succeed. But it isn't for lack of trying. And it's not going to stop her.

34. Stars
It seems even the stars are frowning on her these days. Passing much to quickly in their course. Time is running out, but it's too soon to go on yet.

35. Hold My Hand
Tonight, there is someone there to hold her hand.
It's not her mother's, nor Takashi's. And it's not Yilan's, although it should be.
It's Br'dan's hands she clings to as she feels as if her body's being torn apart. He would never hold her hand before, never offer comfort. But now that she needs it, he's willing to let her cling to his strength, and never mind the claw marks he'll have tomorrow.

36. Precious Treasure
"It's a boy," the midwife announced, all smiles as she laid the babe in his mother's arms.
Kaida stroked the tuft of downy hair wonderingly.
How could she leave this darling treasure behind?
How could she raise her precious son while she was still being hunted?

37. Eyes
His eyes are only the milky blue of all newborns, but she thinks she can see a hint of green. She prays he looks like his father.

38. Abandoned
"Take good care of him," she says to Br'dan with a sad smile, moonlight casting shadows over her eyes. "His father should be along before long ... please persuade him to stop chasing after me."
He looks to the baby, sleeping peacefully with the small dragon curled next to him, guarding the infant's sleep, and nods. "I will. Good luck."

39. Dreams
"I, who feels the death of things in this world ... I, who can see the web the great spider weaves ..." the old woman began when Yi'lan entered the fortuneteller's tent.
He doubted that was her usual greeting for her customers, and so listened carefully, although he wasn't sure he believed in fate or fortune-telling really.
"She is not dead, the one you seek ... and yet her path takes her closer with each passing day," she paused, cracking open a surprisingly bright eye to peer at him. "She has gone to the place where she trained, long before she met you, to have her child. If you hurry, perhaps you can catch her there."
He left the tent abruptly. A child? His? Surely. Hopefully. Please, let us be a family, please, he begged some higher being, although he doesn't really believe such things.
But it's okay to dream, isn't it?

40. Rated
Her life was full of ups and downs, it seemed. The previous day could have verily easily rated as the best of her life ...
And today ... today could just as easily be considered the worst.

41. Teamwork
She had never really believed in teamwork. She never really believed there was anything one couldn't accomplish on their own. She couldn't believe in counting on others.
She accepts, now, that there are some things that cannot be done alone. She thinks, maybe, it might be possible for her to rely on someone other than herself. But she won't. This is the path she's chosen, to make by her own power, her own will alone.

42. Standing Still
It feels like time has stopped, when a stranger answers the door, and hands his son over with a sad smile. "Kaida said you'd be coming, Yi'lan," the stranger says quietly, and invites him inside.

43. Dying
Br'dan can see something dying in the other's eyes as he relays Kaida's message. He knows that look all too well, and a faint stirring in his heart reminds him of the pain that comes from a dream - the only dream - dying.
Time to give him something to live for.
"You can stay here if you like," he offers with a smile. "Your son shouldn't have to grow up alone,."
Yi'lan looks to the sleeping baby in his arms, red hair and eyes as bright as a clear sea, and smiles a sad smile. "She didn't leave me much choice, did she?"

44. Two Roads
He and Kaida were walking different roads, all along. They crossed once, and even traveled together for awhile, but gone their separate ways in the end. Moving farther and farther away from one another, he doubted they'd ever meet again.

45. Illusion
Those tittering, silly girls, they know nothing. They think they know what love is, they think they know what sacrifice is. Giving up everything for the one you love is illusion.
