That question stilled her. Her usual answer was that she'd be leaving shortly. She rarely stayed in one area for more than a few days. She rarely knew anyone for more than a few days... rarely got to know anyone... let anyone know her. Just as she so rarely allowed herself to truly enjoy herself like today.
She gave her head a gentle shake to remove the water that had dripped down from her mane. "I... don't really know," she answered truthfully. "Would it bother you if I stayed for a little while until I decided where to go next?" She was offering herself a delay and wondered what would become of it. If she got too close with this stallion with his philosophies and flying lessons Vara had the feeling he'd be hard to let go.

His eyes followed Vara's as she seemed to be a little unsure. "Of course! You're more than welcome tos hare my home with me." He was a little surprised that she had asked. He of course, had no objections.
"There's not much to it, so don't expect anything fancy." He winked at her and smiled, trying to lighten the odd moment. Scythe wasn't sure what to say to her next, he didn't want to come off as being too strong. "Um, are..." He looked around, the sun was far overhead by now.
"Are you hungry?" Scythe looked over to Vara, he knew of a great orchard not far from the shore. There was plenty of various fruits that grew wild.

And there it was, as easy as that. She who had rarely stayed in one spot for longer than it took to meet the inhabitants had just scheduled herself a sojourn in a stallion's territory. It was such a small step but Vara swore she could feel the same beautiful freefall in the decision. Maybe this time, though... She watched the smiling and damp stallion. Maybe this time the freefall would last a little longer.
"I am a little hungry," she conceded in the midst of that thought. She lifted her head and the gently teasing tone was back. "What local produce would you recommend?"

He tried not to let it show, but Scythe was very excited that Vara had decided to stay and spend some time with him. Thoughts filled his mind of how he would keep her entertained and happy. He knew the longer she was entertained the longer she'd stay. "What do mares like? How do you tell them you like them? Oh man....I'm in trouble."
Scythe stopped and pondered that question.
"Well," he cleared his throat so that he could give his best voice. "On today's menu we have:
Red Berries. Delious and sweet. But, small. It takes many to really get full.
Green or Red apples. Color of course depending on if you're wanting tart or not. The greenier the color, the more pucker you'll get.
Or, finally, we have just a choice of open land with lush green grass and various wild flowers, sure to suit the lady's taste for the evening."
He grinned, trying not to laugh. If Vara wanted, they could make a stop at every place. He just wanted her to be full and happy.

"With this level of service and preparedness I would almost think that I wasn't the first mare you've entertained this way." Her eyes twinkled with inner amusement as they watched Scythe. "It's a good thing I'm not the jealous sort." Sunlight gleamed through her damp fur while she considered her options.
"In light of the season, I'll have to opt for the wildflowers." They would be a delicious treat and she knew that their colors would enhance her own. She mentally chided herself at using such a trick to impress her new stallion friend, but she couldn't help but want to show herself in her best light to him. There was no harm in that. No harm at all in wanting to be her best. No harm in staying a little while with someone she could easily start caring for... that she had perhaps already developed a certain fondness for. " You're overthinking it, Vara," she thought to herself. "Just enjoy this moment for no one knows how long it will last. Live in the present."

With a laugh, Scythe shook his mane. He couldn't think of a time that he had ever had company in the orchard. "Well, not that you would need to be, but I'm glad you're not either." He grinned and nodded his head.
"This way then. Fresh wild flowers are waiting to be picked." He smiled and began to walk to the west.
It didn't take long at all before the fields were in sight. There were flowers of every imaginable color, shape, and size. Scythe stopped and looked to Vara with a proud smile, "Dinner is served, ma'dam." His tail swooshed back and forth slowly. The lady of course, would always have first bite.
"Tell her she looks beautiful...No, no. That's too rash. Too soon.
No, it's a nice compliment. Beautiful mares should be told they're beautiful."
Scythe couldn't make up his mind, he wanted to say -something- but wasn't sure what.
"Vara, you....Uh..." he stopped and cleared his throat, "You um.....You look really nice today. Your coat seems...um...extra shiney?" Oh, he cringed.
"Shiney? Shiney! Oh you fool. That a way to turn her on." Scythe sighed under his breath, he wasn't the best at compliments.

"... Very shiny?" Vara's attempt to stifle her laughter still let a few giggles through. Such an endearingly awkward compliment. Shiny. Shiny indeed. Her eyes lit up with the laughter and her tail swished happily through the flowers behind it. "If it is I give all credit to your amazing lake." She leaned her head closer to the stallion. "Or maybe it's your handsomeness that sets me aglow."
Oh, she was a wretched one to bait him like this. She leaned down to take a mouth of bluebells to hide her amusement. She was happy, truly happy. That made it hard not to play with Scythe a little.

Scythe's head lowered as Vara laughed a little, he knew that had not been the proper compliment for her. He was embarassed.
His ears followed the sound she made as her tail moved over the flowers, then settled on her as she leaned in close to him and spoke. He smiled at his words. Embarassed again, but this time, it was in a good way. His chest puffed up just a little bit, it was an involuntary reaction to her words.
He watched as she took several bluebells into her mouth, his mind racing wildly. His eyes searched for daisies. Daisies were some of his favorite flowers, tender and sweet. He spotted a few only feet away. He made his way over and picked the whole bunch bringing them back to Vara. He outstretched his neck and lowered them next to her bluebells. "Daisies. They'll make a lovely addition to your bluebells." His voice was calm and quiet. He didn't really know what to say to her.

His quietness spread and Vara found herself stilling while looking at his offered flowers. It really was kind of him. This whole visit had been kind of him. She was giving him a hard time and possibly making him uncomfortable when he was being the sweetest stallion she knew. "Thank you," she said quietly, hoping he would understand that it was for more than the flowers.
She reached out and took the daisies, holding a white and blue bouquet that her own blue eyes watched through. A stray gust of wind blew petals that found a home in her still damp mane. She ate the flowers slowly, savoring their mixing colors and flavors.

Scythe smiled as he watched Vara. She looked radiant standing there amongst the flowers. Her coat vibrant, the flowers bringing her colors out even brighter.
He smiled and spoke slowly to her, "You quite welcome, Vara." His tail moved slowly from side to side as he began to graze. He wasn't all that hungry, butterflies for some reason had invaded his stomach.
The sun overhead had begun to move lower into the sky, night would soon fall. Scythe pondered to himself what the proper course of action would be for the eveing. Should he give her somewhere private to bed down for the night...or perhaps ask her to bed down with him. Would that be too soon? He kept his thoughts to himself as he continued to watch Vara eat. He smiled and nickered a bit to himself, "I'm glad you came back...." he said softly.

"So am I," Vara murmured into the grass. She shut her eyes and inhaled deeply, taking in the sweet smells of the flowers that surrounded her. She loved spring. Each moment held a thousand sensations. She would live forever in spring if she could. Sometimes when you found a good thing... it didn't hurt to bask in it.
She lifted her head to regard her companion, the light of the setting sun setting her golden fur aglow. "I don't tend to stay in one place for a long time, so you'll have to forgive me if I don't know all the niceties." She smiled dryly, amused by her own inexperience.
"This sort of interactions is probably a lot more familiar to you than to me."

"You're doing perfectly well in my book," Scythe smiled and took another mouthful of wildflowers. He knew he'd better eat now or his stomach would start rumbling through the night. He grazed along side of Vara, his eyes watching her as she gently pulled up flowers.
He smiled, more to himself than to her, he was still in quite a shock that she had returned. He laughed a bit, thinking of her expression as she had dove off of the cliff earlier, "You looked like a young filly when you jumped." The remark seemed to come out of no where.
The sun drew even closer to the tree tops, it wouldn't be long before the moon and stars would start they're nightly journey across the skies.

Scythe's last remark induced giggles in the golden mare. "Well I think I felt a little like a filly. I haven't done much bounding around since." Thinking back to earlier that day, Vara remembered the wind whipping through her mane and the feeling of nothing but air beneath her hooves.
She took a last bite and swallow of fragrant petals. "That was an experience that one day will demand repeating. Not quite yet, though. I need time to set the experience in my memory before I let it be blurred by repeats. And," she added with an air of shared secrecy. "I don't know if my heart could take that sort of pounding twice in one day."

"Best leave it to another day then. I'd hate for you to have so much fun that it kills you." He laughed and looked up to the darkening sky.
"Night is falling quickly...." He turned to look at Vara, he'd decided that tonight would not be the night to invite her to bed down with him. It would be much too soon. "We could stay next to the lake, under the stars...Or, we could return to my home. I'd be more than happy for you to sleep in my dwelling." Scythe would leave the choice up to Vara, he wanted her to feel comfortable in any decision she made.

This stallion had a knack for presenting her with difficult choices. She thought about it for a moment but it was the warmth of that spring day that made her decision. "I'm going to have to choose the lake." She took a step around him, watching him with blue eyes while her tail swished around her back legs. "Looking deep into a lake at night has been one of my methods of flying."
She shut her eyes for the moment, remembering the last time she had tried it. "Looking down at the reflected stars with the stars up above. There is hardly anything less beautiful... though I suppose I say that about many things," she added with a chuckle. The lake sand would be quite comfortable and she didn't want to waste the sight of such a clear night. Beauty had to be appreciated, that was one of her many rules.
