"No?" she asked, looking up at him shyly through her lashes, as if they were a shield. "If I had a brave knight to watch over me, I think I could feel safe even in the strangest of lands." She was emboldened by his response, though it was almost as shy as hers. Unconsciously mirroring him, she shuffled her feet nervously, making little splashes and ripples in the water.

"Can't say as I'm much of a knight..." Yaxha looked off into the distance for a moment, down the stream, the direction he'd come from. After just a bit of time, he'd already forgotten where he was headed before stopping to wet his skin. Ah well, he supposed it didn't much matter. Turning back to Tai, he smiled, swishing through the water over to her and holding up a paw. "But I promise to always watch over you, if you join me." The look in his eyes was questioning, almost expectant. He didn't expect the answer to be easy to come to. And yet, he hoped she would join him. Part of it was his own selfishness, his desire for her company, but another part was his will to show her the world. She seemed the type who would benefit from the miracles the outside world could present.

She placed a paw over his, feeling a little shiver of excitement at the touch. "Well I'm not much of a damsel, though I often find myself distressed. But... I'd like that. To travel with you. I'll have to tell everyone what I'm doing, I wouldn't want them to worry. They'll never believe this." She laughed a small, slightly embarrassed laugh.

"I'm glad." Leaning forward, he touched the tip of his nose to the top of her paw. He stayed that way for a moment, thinking about how much more exciting his journey would be now that he wouldn't be alone. Grinning sheepishly, he pulled away, carefully lowering his paw and hers with it. "Would you like me to go with you...?" he questioned with a cant of his head. Would it be better if her loved ones met the one she would be leaving with, or not? "Or I can stay here. Whatever you want."

"It's probably better if you do. They'll never let me go otherwise, and they'd follow me back to you if I tried and then be in a bad mood." She chuckled at the image that created in her mind of her friends and family all following her to where he was, comically grumpy looks on all their faces. It would not be nearly so amusing where that to actually happen.

Laughing, he stepped fully out of the water now, resisting the urge to shake out his pelt despite not being overly wet at all. Instead he settled for lightly shaking out each of his paws one by one. "I'll definitely come, then." Unsure just where her family lived, he looked to her for guidance. Besides, it would probably be best if she met with her family first while he stood behind her, waiting to be introduced. "Lead the way," he figuratively nudged her with his suggestion. After all, he was never one to wait around for long. He was ready to go and meet this family of hers. And he would most certainly assure them that he was trustworthy.

"This way then." She started off through the forest, slightly worried, now that she had a chance to think about it. Would her family let her go? She may be an adult, technically, but she was still young, and her family could be a bit protective of her. She hoped she and Yaxha could convince them that she would be safe with him. She felt that this was something she needed to do, or she would never again get up the courage to try. "It's a little ways, but we should be there well before dark."
